Case StudiesRead about how schools and colleges are using Serifto prepare students for the changing world ahead

At Tabernacle School District in New Jersey, the supervisor of educationtechnology, Dr Thomas Gant, chose Serif software as the key tool toadd elements of the technology curriculum into every subject area.

The Serif Design Suite is installed on every computer in the district.

Teachers in the district, which serves approximately 900 kids inkindergarten through eighth grade, use the Suite, which includes Serifsfour leading design tools PagePlus X3, WebPlus X2, PhotoPlus X2 andDrawPlus X3 for many classroom design projects.

The suite of programs includes applications to enable classes to integrate technologies such as bitmapand vector drawing, animation, desktop and web publishing into their lessons.

The projects help eighth-graders meetNew Jerseys Core Curriculum Content Standards for computer literacy and guide instruction into the 21stcentury.

The Clarkston Community School technology team serve approximately 8,100 students

in the area north of Detroit, Michigan. Since implementing Serif software across the district they have beenable to more actively engage students in lessons and to better prepare them for future studies - all within theirbudget and current staffing levels. PagePlus enables students to create unique documents and learndesktop publishing skills while PhotoPlus offers digital image editing to bring pictures to life in a remarkablevariety of ways.

Executive director of Technology Services, Matt D. McCarty says, Its a challenge with any district to makesure the kids have enough time using all technologies at the same time.

One of the first projects to use Serif software involved a sixth-grade class creating a brochure and a mini-passport as part of a social studies lesson. Students were invited to pick one or more countries they wantedto visit as the subject of their project, and they then created their travel documents using PagePlus.Students benefitted from learning multiple lessons including civics (why you need a passport), geography(about the country) and technology (the software), McCarty said.

feature and a sidebar story, with PagePlus and PhotoPlus about turn-of-the-century historical events andissues

High school students, in grades nine through 12, using PagePlus and PhotoPlus as integral tools in theirgraphic arts courses

Serif programs support the Clarkston Community Schools as they strive to meet the mandates of theMichigan Educational Technology Standards for Students. The standards provide

educators with a specific set of learning expectations that can be used todrive educational technology literacy assessments.
