DO NOT FORGET THE ANNUAL MEETING SCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 8th AT 7:00
p.m. THE LOCATION IS THE HOLIDAY INN ON NORTH LAUREL PARK DRIVE.
(Same as in previous years)Updates and Remindersu Greenlawn has committed to a September 6 start date for the new and replacement plant installation, curb backfill where required, and other related landscape improvements.
u We all pay for the cost of insurance through our dues. Please remember that the use of grills in enclosed areas such as garages is potentially dangerous and a fire hazard. Propane bottles should also be stored outside and not in the garage.
u Fall will soon be here and the local critters will be looking for hand outs and warm places to bed down. When possible place your trash out in the mornings or after 6:00 p.m. the night before and keep it off the sprinkler heads. Keep garage doors closed to avoid those unwanted visitors.
PLEASE REMEMBER THE ANNUAL MEETING ON SEPTEMBER 8TH and make plans to attend, you may even win a great prize. nSEPTEMBER 14TH - NExT REGULAR BOARD MEETING at the
Clubhouse at 7 p.m. .

CCV-II NEWSJerry Posegay, President
THE ANNUAL MEETING FOR CCV II WILL BE HELD ON SEPTEMBER 27, 2011 AT THE HOLIDAY INN, 17123 NORTH LAUREL PARK DRIVE, LIVONIA, MI.
Registration will begin at 6:15 PM & the MEETING WILL START at 7 PM. THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT MEETING BE-CAUSE 3 BOARD POSITIONS ARE UP FOR RE-ELECTION. In or-der for this to become a reality there must be a quorum which consists of 35% of the co-owners. If you are unable to attend the meeting, PLEASE SEND YOUR PROXY FORM TO HERRIMAN & ASSOCIATES in order for your vote to count.
The asphalt replacement for Village Run has been com-pleted. We feel they have done an excellent job. The con-crete leveling has begun & hopefully will be completed in a relatively short period of time. This, of course, depends on the weather.
We are going to start, the landscape program for shrubs, sometime this Fall, Some shrubs will be removed & not replaced. Other shrubs might be replaced, depending on the situation.
Sometime this Fall, probably October, we will start our tree trimming, shaping, & removal. Some trees will be removed & not replaced. Oth-er trees will be trimmed or shaped, depending on their needs.
The wood replacement & painting is moving along very nicely & should be completed in the near future.
PLEASE DON‘T INTERFERE WITH OUR CONTRACTORS WHEN THEY ARE PERFORMING THEIR DUTIES. They have orders from the Management Company & they are not to do any requests from Co-owners. If you have problems with their work, contact the Manage-ment Company. We have 348 Co-owners & if everyone required some attention, they would never complete their duties.
Keep in mind that the yard waste collection will take place this Fall. We will give you ample notice & time to dispose of your yard waste. n
Now we’re laying down some asphalt. Pretty cool! The results are very impressive. Big improvements on Village Run Drive are so nice. – photos submitted by Judy Costigan

1600th golf roundfor BoB Sawyer
A resident of CCV-III, Bob Sawyer, of Dun Rovin, played his 1600th round of golf at Bushwood Golf Course this year on August 11th. He started on this journey the day after he retired, begin-ning on April 1, 1999. He has played almost daily, weather permitting, even in light driz-zle, and most often in the early morning. Bob has had three holes in one at Bush-wood - one on hole 8 and two on hole 9. Asked why he had such an accurate count of his rounds, he said “the first year I counted to see if pay-ing the annual membership fee made sense. From then, I just kept a count.”

Fall gardening may not be as big as spring gardening, but the cool-ing, clearing days and less frantic pace make early fall a great time to work outdoors. It’s a good time to plant, transplant, move and otherwise change what’s growing in your yard. Many trees, shrubs and perennials may be planted or moved now. With proper site preparation before plant-ing and plenty of moisture afterward, they will have time to become established before the soil freezes for the winter. As September progresses, keep annuals deadheaded and watered. Annuals often are at their most colorful in the fall.Go ahead and keep fertilizing container plants but hold off on all the others until late fall or early next spring at which time a slow release fertilizer can give them a good start into next season. Trees, shrubs and perennials don’t need any more fertilizer during this growing sea-son, and applications now may even harm dry, struggling plants. Add mums or pansies to fill in bare spots in containers.Finish bulb orders. Smaller bulbs like crocus and squills may be planted in September. Larger bulbs, such as, daffodils and tulips, can go in during October. Day lilies that have outgrown their spaces may be dug and divided. The popular, prolific rebloomers like Stella d’Oro and Happy Returns thrive with division every couple of years. When the leaves of herbaceous perennials turn brown and lose their vigor, cut them flush to the ground. This technique works best with hosta, day lilies and astilbe. Ever-green perennials and ground-covers, such as, hardy geranium and ajuga, should be left alone; you only need to remove damaged leaves. Woody perennials that put forth new growth from old wood do best when pruned back in the spring.Be sure not to prune early spring flowering shrubs such as, lilacs, azaleas, or hydrangeas, too severely because it will lessen their flow-ering come spring.Lastly, an anti-transpirant may be applied to broadleaf and needled evergreens such as, rhododendrons and holly, to prevent extreme drying from winter winds. This should be applied before temperatures dip below 40 degrees. n
Fall Gardening
Tips
MORE CLEVER IDEAS WORTH KNOWING
Reheating refrigerated bread To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster. No More Mosquitoes Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away.
Squirrel Away! To keep squirrels from eating your plants, sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn’t hurt the plant and the squirrels won’t come near it.
Flexible vacuum To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.
Reducing Static Cling Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and ... At TA-DA! ... Static is gone. Measuring Cups Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don’t dry cup. Next, add your ingredient, such As peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out. Foggy Windshield? Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car When the windows fog, rub with the eraser! Works better than a cloth!
Re-opening envelopes If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include some-thing inside, just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two. Viola! It unseals easily. Conditioner Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It’s cheaper than shav-ing cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It’s also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn’t like when you tried it in your hair.
Goodbye Fruit FliesTo get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass, fill it ½” with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid; mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!
Get Rid of Ants Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it “home”, can’t digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works and you don’t have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!(This I will definitely try!!!)
Useless bUt interesting triviA • To make half a kilo of honey, bees must collect nectar from over 2 million individual flowers• Heroin is the brand name of morphine once marketed by ‘Bayer’.• Tourists visiting Iceland should know that tipping at a restaurant is considered an insult!

Since we don’t have any other plans for September, we will meet at the Senate.
It will be on the 3rd Thursday, September 15 at 6:00 PM.Plan to bring ideas for our next get-togethers.
The Villagers is a group of singles who live at Country Club Village. We usually go out once a month on the 3rd Thursday. All

THE Villagers...
REVIEW of our BOOK EXCHANGE!Thanks to our hostesses Marilyn Shields, Mary Ann Phimister,
Marilyn Buchan, and Bette Moran for planning the Annual Book Exchange on August 23 at 2 p.m. held at the Clubhouse. Speaker Pam Craig again provided a reading list and lead a discussion of cur-rent books that members have found interesting.
Members also brought into exchange, and talked about their favorites. Refreshments were served. We look forward to next year’s event. Always a favorite.
Foxy Ladies Planning Luncheon
& ANNUAL MEETING!Wednesday, September 21st, 1:00 p.m.
This is an open meeting for all women of CCV who may be interest-ed in finding out what Foxy Ladies is all about. Have you just retired or do you have a little more time to have fun with the girls?? Want to meet more women in your community? This is the place! Any woman living in CCV is eligible for membership. To become a mem-ber, we simply ask that you pay a one-time $10 initiation fee at the first event you attend after the planning luncheon. After that, come to one or two events a year or come to them all. We’ll be glad to have you join us!
On the 21st, at 1:00 pm we will begin with a potluck salad lun-cheon. Please bring a salad to share. Rolls, dessert, and beverages in addition to utensils, plates, cups, napkins, etc. will be provided. During lunch, we will circulate a sign-up sheet so that members can indicate which monthly program event that they would like to help organize. Some events can be handled by one person; others require the support of three or more members, depending on how much effort is involved. If you have an idea for a program, discuss it with others in the group. Decide when it would be good to offer the program and how many people you’ll need to organize it and before you know it, you’ll have an interesting program.
We are still looking for one or two people to work on the cen-tral coordinating committee. Ideally, we’d have three people: one to handle communications, one to remind those working on individual programs when they need to begin planning, and one to keep track of supplies and finances. Linda Jones has volun-teered to remain on the committee this year. We need two more volunteers to work with her. Please contact Barb Zitzewitz ([email protected]) if you are interested. See you on the 21st!

Lady readers.

It is hard to believe that summer is almost gone, and the pool will soon be closed. The last water class is September 1. We will again end our fun season with a salad-bar luncheon immediately after that last class. This is for all water exercisers! If you plan to come, please let me know (or Pam LeDuc).
Have no fear, we will still exercise!! THE INDOOR CLASSES WILL, RESUME SEPTEMBER 7. The first two classes are the perfect chance for you to try this class. These two classes will be FREE so do drop in and give it a try and see what we actually do. The first 8-week session starts September 12 and runs through October 28. The charge for this class is $3.00 per class if you pay for the full 8 weeks in advance. You can sign up for one, two or three classes a week. If you prefer to pay-as-you-go, it is $4.00 per class.
gloria Smith, who has been our instructor for many years, will be with us again this year. This class will go through the fall and winter and into spring, with a two-week break at holiday time and is open to all residents of CCV.
Do not worry about whether or not you can keep up, everyone works at their own pace, and our instructor is very good at helping each of us adapt the exercises for our own body. The class consists of a warm-up period, cardiovascular, weights, toning, cool down and stretching. Wear comfortable, movable clothing, good shoes, and bring a towel or mat for floor work. Light weights are optional, but recommended.
You do not have to pre-register, just come to the Clubhouse dressed to exercise. Why don’t you try a class, I am sure you will like it! It is a great way to meet people from your neighborhood while do-ing something good for yourself! Hope to see you there! n – submitted by Pat Longley

Just Say NO! Don’t Feed the Wildlife! Be Kind To Furry & Feathered Friends
Trust us - the species natural instincts had it all figured out long be-fore we did. We do a great disservice to the wildlife that we share space with by providing seed and food scraps. Ducks & geese and other feathered friends decide not to migrate and furry crit-ters no longer store their winter food. Let’s not upset nature’s apple cart.
Remember, by feeding the wildlife you are contributing to the Associa-tion expense (that’s you!) for wildlife round-ups, removal and clean-up. n
