From the President September 2013 Congratulations to all those SCEC members that qualified for NSW State Dressage Championships and made the northward trek to compete. In it- self it is quite an achievement to qual- ify and be accepted for States, even if, like me and my young (but tall) horse Jigsaw, the day didn’t go according to plan, and the scores weren’t all we would have wished (not helped by me getting two course errors in a prelim test (Ros Quist was judging and she was so sweet … very calming) !! I have to say I find the 5A easier to re- member than the prelim tests … go figure !!). The experience of taking a horse and (an often nervous) rider to a BIG comp like this, with a big comp atmosphere, is amazing. And I have to say, there were some beauti- ful horses and ponies there, and some serious and seriously good (often pro- fessional) riders … definitely great to watch !! Again well done to all those SCEC members who competed !!! The SCEC August comp was a fantas- tic day … a smallish comp, but a great day … the weather was kind, and the judges were in raptures about the morning tea cup cakes provided by Monica Shephard (thanks so very much for this Monica). We continue to get lots of positive feedback from peo- ple about how they enjoy the relaxed atmosphere at our comps … even the judges seem to appreciate it. Results from that comp are on our website, and also in this newsletter. SCEC committee meetings are held on The next SCEC comp is our Champi- onships … on Sunday 13 October … entries via www.globalentriesonline. com.au as always. And as always we have sourced some fantastic spon- sors, with HORSELAND taking the lead again (thank you very much), and thus there is much loot to be won !!Please make sure you have ‘set up’ your horse in global so that when you enter the comp the horses EA number and bridle number (if relevant) come across to me … saves me chasing you later. I have set up this comp in the ‘old’ way of Official and Associate comps. After this, the new EA membership structure will mean that we will have to change the way we structure our competitions. We will run Official Competitive comps (much like the September 2013 old official classes), and Closed Un- restricted comps (much like the old Associate classes (ie you can be an SCEC member, or an EA member, or both) but which can only go to Nov- ice level). More information about the new EA membership and competi- tion structure can be found on the EA website. Running competition days requires in- put from many people … and we ask that all our members volunteer to help with one task or another as often as they possibly can, especially on com- petition days … helping set up the grounds, penciling, collecting tests are just some of the myriad of tasks that we need help with. So please don’t be backward in coming forward and of - fering to help with whatever you can. And thank you to those who have heard me ask this before and have volunteered their services … we really do appreciate it. This year SCEC committee meetings will be held on the Tuesday a week and a half before each comp – that is, the committee will meet 6 times dur- ing the year (and probably an extra at the end of the year to sort out HOTY/ point score etc), rather than each month.

Congratulations to all those SCEC members that qualified for NSW State Dressage Championships and made the northward trek to compete. In it-self it is quite an achievement to qual-ify and be accepted for States, even if, like me and my young (but tall) horse Jigsaw, the day didn’t go according to plan, and the scores weren’t all we would have wished (not helped by me getting two course errors in a prelim test (Ros Quist was judging and she was so sweet … very calming) !!
