The August OCV Social was held August 15 at
The Tulsa Rib Company in Orange. It was
hosted by Larry and Nancy Ward. Thirty-five
members attended to enjoy delicious steaks,
ribs and other entrees. The group was able to sit
together in a small room, so conversation was
easy and the company was excellent. Everyone
had a great time. Many thanks to the Wards for
hosting the August Social.

What Were They Thinking? Three OCV couples recently told other OCV
members that they had travelled to see Brian
and Margaret Hoien at their new home in Utah.
But this reporter has learned that in fact it is
more likely that they were visiting an entirely
different secret location. With the photographic
evidence in our possession, no further
explanation is needed to see where Mark and
Rosemary Shearer, Tony and Vicky Siragusa
and Leo and Donna Mann were actually
spending their vacation time! Mark and Rosemary Shearer

NCCC NEWS The big change that will occur with this year’s
renewals is that renewing NCCC members will
not be receiving a membership card(s) and
packet in the mail as in previous years. Instead
each member will receive an email from NCCC
advising that their membership for 2018 has
been received and processed. A membership
card(s) will be attached to that email. It can be
printed or stored on the member’s phone
and/or computer for future reference. For those
members without computer access, their club
Governor will be responsible for getting the
card to each of their club members. New
NCCC members will continue to receive a hard
membership card.
Sideways Tour, Santa Barbara Joe and Barbie Orsini are hosting a Floating Fun
Get Together wine tasting trip to Santa Barbara.
If you are participating, you should already have
your room booked at the Sideways Inn in
Buellton. Besides the hotel room rate, the cost of
the trip is $5.00 per person which will be used
for a 50/50. The trip is a fun run, so you are not
required to drive your Corvette. Any make of car
is welcome.
The group will not caravan to Santa Barbara;
instead everyone will drive separately and meet
at a restaurant in the harbor. For more
information, contact Joe Orsini.

It’s Homecoming Time Again Conda Takanabe is coordinating the schedule
for the 2017 Homecoming fundraiser. She is
looking for members who can help. Conda will
be contacting schools to set up the schedule,
then she will send out emails with assignments.
What is this fundraiser? If you have a T-top or
convertible, you can help. We drive high school
homecoming princesses around the field during
football halftime shows on homecoming night.
Just bring a towel or mat to cover the passenger
seat, and a blanket for the princess to sit on.
OCV earns funds that go toward the club’s
donation to charity. You earn $8 per game in
Bow Tie Bucks toward your membership dues
for next year. The group goes out for food
before or afterwards. Halftime shows are always
fun and they are easy to do.

• If 33 million people held hands, they could
make it all the way around the equator.
• You are born with 300 bones, but by the time
you are an adult you only have 206.
• Ketchup was used as a medicine back in the
1930’s.
Did you know?

Changes to Club Charity For many years, OCV has made charitable
contributions to the Retinitis Pigmentosa
Foundation to help with the fight against
blindness brought on by this disease. The son
of OCV founding members Walt and Alice
Willard suffers from RP. The RP Foundation
was the passion of its founder, Helen Harris.
Helen and her children were also afflicted with
RP. Helen passed away several years ago, and
her son kept the charity going for a while after
her death, but now the organization has folded
and it no longer exists. This means that OCV
needs to select a new charity.
This need started conversation about which
charity to choose for future giving. If OCV
decides to continue giving to a charity for eye
diseases, there is a blindness group called
Foundation Fighting Blindness that has an
Orange County chapter. It supports research
that will provide preventions, treatments and
cures for people affected by retinitis
pigmentosa, age-related macular degeneration,
Usher syndrome and the entire spectrum of
retinal degenerative diseases.
Several members of the Board commented on
the fact that O C Vettes has lost numerous
members over the last couple of years due to
various forms of cancer. It was suggested that a
donation to some organization that supports

would be appropriate to receive donations from

them the name of the charity and the reason
why you think it should be selected by the club.
Once all ideas have been submitted, the Board
will discuss the choices and the membership
will be called on to vote for the new club charity.
Palm Desert Trip 2018 The annual OCV Fun In The Sun weekend for
2018 is in the planning stages. The trip will be
held Apr 5-8, 2018. The group will stay at the

to attend, you should call the Inn at (800) 253-
0004 to make your reservations. Be sure to say
you are with OCV. You can always cancel if you
are unable to attend.
The trip normally includes a trip or tour some-
where on Sat, as well as golf, shopping, spa
treatments, relaxing by the pool and lots of
great dining. If you have an idea for a Saturday
trip or if you want to help with planning, please
contact Carol Thompson, Nancy Ward or Jane
Wheeler to let them know. This is one of the
clubs traditional events and we want everyone
to have a great weekend.
