(literally or metaphorically!) in money’s ability to solve problems?

Our messages this fall will be unique. The sermon series for this fall is called “The Flip Side of the Coin: Living Life Beyond Money”. The series will remind us that as a Christ follower, our attitude towards money will be just as important as our allocation of money – if not more. We want to remember that God has given us an abundance of gifts. Money is only one of those gifts.

So how about you? Does money get a bad rap? Does it take too much credit and get too much of the blame? Maybe it’s time to look at Jesus’ words and remember life is more than food and the body more than clothes. These things are important, but we are called to live beyond them.

- Mark Mohrweis [email protected]

Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? (Matthew 6:25)

Have you ever been unfairly or wrongly blamed for something? When I was a kid, when something around the house broke, my siblings and I usually got the blame from our parents. Most of the time, we were the culprits responsible. But every once and awhile it was NOT our fault. And it was so frustrating in those moments, trying to explain our innocence. (As an aside, I give my parents grace. Seeing how often my children break things makes me realize how easy it is to make blame a default position!)

Having said that, let me ask a question: Has there ever been a time you have wrongfully blamed money for something that was not money’s fault? Did you say “no” to a new opportunity, saying you could not afford it, but you were actually afraid of the unknown? Do you blame not having enough money for why you are sometimes unhappy? Do you seek money for confidence or the affirmation of others? Do you put too much stock

Connected Families Parenting Workshop

The basic idea is this: “When parents make a primary goal of getting their children to behave right, parents and kids generally become adversaries. But when parents learn to focus first on helping their children grow into a healthy, biblically-based belief about themselves and the world, these parents become allies with their kids and gain great influence in their lives. So we equip parents with a new primary goal, one that positions them as allies instead of adversaries. That goal: Bring the gospel of grace and truth to life for your kids.”

We are deeply grateful for all who helped make our Racial Reconciliation Panel Discussion possible!

We give a big shout out to our fantastic speakers: Sharifa Stevens (Skillman

Bible Church) Kevin Dial (Irving Bible

Church) Jenny Wang (Chase Oaks

Church) Stanley Wang (Chase Oaks

Church). We thank Pastor Dieula for organizing this night and leading our Racial Reconciliation small group each month. And, Pastor Mark, thank you for all your help and support.

A big hank you, too, to all those who worked behind the scenes setting up, getting the word out, taking care of

children, preparing food, providing tech support, and cleaning up...we couldn’t do it without you!

“I am especially encouraged by the members of Redeemer for seeing value in discussions about race taking place in the church. It is hard to be a witness for Christ in the area of racial tension in America, if we, as the body cannot engage in civil discourse. Thank you for making our church a safe and

welcoming place where people of different ethnicities can walk in and feel seen, not invisible through our focus on racial reconciliation. I am daily blessed by your bravery and your passion for reconciliation. May God be glorified by our efforts.” - Dieula Previlon [email protected]

Thank You!

Scholarship Exploratory Committee Interested in helping a local high-schooler take the next step to college? If so, we need your help! At our congregational meeting in June, Redeemer voted to initiate an endowed community scholarship program for local high schoolers.

To do that, we need to start from the ground up by answering questions such as:

Who would be eligible for the scholarship?

What qualities are we seeking in scholarship recipients?

How to put together a scholarship application?

How to get the word out that this scholarship is available?

With those questions in mind, Redeemer is forming an exploratory committee who would be tasked with establishing the parameters of this scholarship program as well as awarding the first scholarship in the Spring of 2018. The commitment would be 1 – 2 meetings per month for the next 9 months.

Interested? Contact Pastor Mark before September 30th: [email protected]

Interested in Church Membership? Are you a Redeemer attender who is interested in church membership? Each year we welcome new members at our congregational meetings. The next one is coming up in January. But before that, we ask prospective members to join us for an informational class about Redeemer and the Evangelical Covenant Church. We are looking into setting up a class this October if enough prospective members are interested. If you are interested in joining Redeemer as a member, or just want to learn more about us, please contact Pastor Mark to learn more about this potential class. [email protected]
