SEPTEMBER 2016 NEWSLETTER
“Supporting those
who support us”
Community Supporting Police Inc. (CSP) is a community driven organisation supporting members of the
Queensland Police Service (QPS) and their families since 1991. To celebrate this milestone, CSP is holding a 25th Anniversary dinner and
Biennial Conference at Mercy Place Bardon on Saturday 29 October 2016.
Many of CSP’s inaugural committee members, former and current members of both CSP and the QPS and their family, members from a variety of
supportive community groups including Scouts, Guides, Lions, the Salvation Army, PCYC and Police Legacy and other great sponsors will be in
attendance. Members from the five CSP Branches from across the State are also attending the events.
The premise of this support was and still is aimed at enhancing relations between the community and the police service. To achieve this goal,
CSP continues to support the QPS in providing welfare assistance to all members. CSP continues to engage through CSP Branches to support
emergency accommodation across Queensland for members of the QPS and their immediate families in times of trauma or crisis.
The funds raised by CSP volunteers through local fundraising, including the sale of QPS branded merchandise, soft toys and Junior Police
clothing (caps and polo shirts - refer to CSP merchandise page); and through the holding of fundraising events including Behind the Crime Nights
(BTC - page 2 for the September BTC Night) provides much needed funds to support these facilities and QPS members and their families.
All QPS members are able to access emergency accommodation throughout the State by engaging with a local Human Services Officer or the
Police Chaplaincy Unit. All QPS members are able to apply for assistance through the CSP Helping Hand Fund (HH) (refer page 3 details on HH).
In conjunction with the 25th Birthday celebrations and Dinner, CSP is holding its Biennial Conference at Mercy Place Bardon on the Saturday 29
October 2016. We have been fortunate to secure Ms Michelle Lindley from Volunteering Queensland as our guest speaker and facilitator for this
all day event. Michelle will provide CSP members with valuable information on recruiting and retaining volunteers in the ever-changing world in
which we live. Attendees at the Biennial Conference will be encouraged to discuss the future direction for CSP and peruse the proposed CSP
Rules. It is hoped the new Rules will be ready for approval at the CSP General meeting in November. If you currently a member of CSP and
have not received your invitation to either the Conference of the 25 Year Anniversary Dinner, please contact the CSP Secretary by emailing
CSP also wishes to remind members of current procedures concerning membership. Please note an annual membership fee of $20.00pp is
payable after your application has been presented and accepted by the Management Committee.
If you belong to an organisation or business that would like to hold a fundraising event such as a free dress day or social sporting event with the
proceeds being donated to CSP please forward an email to [email protected] and a member of the Management Committee will be in touch. CSP
members are able to assist with the sale of CSP merchandise at these events if requested.
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on Wednesday 14 September 2016 at Police Headquarters, Roma Street, Brisbane. Nomination
forms for executive positions on the CSP Management Committee have been forwarded to all current CSP members. If you know of a community
member who may wish to nominate for an executive position, nomination forms should be forwarded to the Secretary, Community Supporting
Police Inc., PO Box 209 Strathpine Centre 4500 no later than 1 September 2016 (refer to page 6 for a nomination form). If you wish to nominate
for a position and you are not currently member of CSP, you must complete an application for membership form and forward this to the CSP
Secretary prior to nominating for a position. Your membership form can be urgently considered by the CSP Management Committee out of
session.
I hope you enjoy this edition of the CSP newsletter. If you have any stories or photographs of CSP or police activities that you would like to share
please send these to [email protected] We would love to hear from you.
