JEFF HERBSTArtistic Director / Director & PerformerJeff Herbst has been with Northern Sky since 1991 and became Artistic Director in 1993. He began his collaboration with the Heritage Ensemble, Northern Sky’s predecessor, in 1985 as part of the Governor Dodge State Park troupe and then migrated north to direct for the Peninsula State Park group in 1988 and 1989. He has worked on over
fifty original productions with Northern Sky since 1991, including Guys on Ice, Lumberjacks in Love, Packer Fans from Outer Space, and Bone Dance. Jeff was instrumental in developing Northern Sky’s New Works Program and the Fred Alley New Musical Fund, nurturing writing teams in bringing an original work “from the page to the stage.” Jeff has an MFA in Acting from the Asolo Conservatory and has performed on and off Broadway, as well as at regional theatres throughout the United States.
NEEN ROCKProduction Manager / Scenic & Costume DesignerNeen is thrilled to be part of the Northern Sky Theater family. In Northern Sky’s off-season, Neen resides in Madison where she works as a freelance stage manager and a member of IATSE Local 251. Neen wishes to thank her family and Brian for their constant love and support. She dedicates this season to Joan and Bill, with love.
DAVID ALLEYTechnical Director / Lighting DesignerDavid is happy to be back for another great season of theater under the stars. David is excited to be part of Northern Sky, continuing to oversee technical operations as he has for the past 25 years. He has been the theater’s resident lighting designer since 1990. DAVID CARL PETERSONNov. 7, 1935 – Oct. 8, 2014Wisconsin’s Musical Historian andNorthern Sky’s “Godfather”David has been called the Godfather of this theatre because he started his Heritage Ensemble program in Peninsula State Park in the early 1970s. Upon his retirement in the mid ‘90s, he encouraged a couple of resident cast members to pick up the mantle and continue play production in the amphitheater. They did, ultimately changing the name to American Folklore Theatre. In 2015, we celebrated the extraordinary life of Dave Peterson. Members of the Heritage Ensemble, AFT, and Northern Sky presented a concert of stories and songs generously hosted by Dave’s wife, Joan, and long-time family friend, Amy Chaffee.
