Welcome to the 3rd Quarter! There are still things to

complete in the college admissions process. Here are a few

things you should do this month:

College Based Scholarships

Molloy College Freshman Scholarships

Molloy College Humanities Scholarship

Award Amount: up to $5,000

Deadline: February 8, 2020

Description: The aim of this scholarship is to offer financial support to incoming freshmen and

to encourage dedicated and deserving students to further their studies in other cultures and

languages and/or in the Humanities in general.

Requirements:

Must be a senior in high school

Have at least two years of language other than English at the high school level

Be a humanities major entering Molloy College in Fall 2020

Molloy College Community Service Award

Award Amount: Partial Tuition

Deadline: March 1, 2020

Description: Partial tuition awards ranging from $500 to $5,000 per year awarded to entering

full-time freshmen who demonstrate a commitment to their community and school. Interested

students must file a community service scholarship application, which is available in the Office

of Admissions and on our website. Scholarships are renewable annually.

Molloy Dominican Academic Scholarships

Award Amount: Partial Tuition

Deadline: March 1, 2020

Description: These partial tuition scholarships, ranging from $4,000 to $20,000 are based on

academic achievement. Recipients must be first semester full-time freshman. Scholarships are

renewable annually.

Molloy Fine Arts Scholarships

Award Amount: Partial to Full Tuition

Description: Awards ranging from partial to full tuition scholarships for entering full-time

freshmen who are adjudged to have exceptional talent, or have achieved proficiency in art or

music. Qualifications are demonstrated through audition, the submission of a portfolio, or other

documented experience. Recipients must major in the areas for which the scholarships are

awarded. Scholarships are renewable annually.

Island Drafting & Technical Institute Scholarship Program for High School Seniors

Award Amount: $2,500

Description: Each high school may select three students for scholarships at Island Drafting &

Technical Institute. This scholarship provides a $2,500 award to each student, which can be

applied toward the daytime session Associate Degree program in Computer Aided Drafting and

WACE Advancing Cooperative & Work-Integrated Education

National Co-Op Scholarship Program

Award Amount: up to $30,000

Deadline: February 15, 2020 (Please note deadline exceptions for certain schools.)

Description: This year, through the National Co-op Scholarship Program, we will award 175

merit scholarships totaling $4.5 million. Students who are applying to one of the ten institutions

listed in the scholarship brochure (Clarkson University, Drexel University, Johnson & Wales

University, Merrimack College, Rochester Institute of Technology, State University of New

York Oswego, The University of Toledo, University of Cincinnati and University of

Massachusetts Lowell) can apply for one of these scholarships simply by visiting our website,

www.waceinc.org, and completing an online version of the form or by completing and mailing

the form included in the scholarship brochure (available in the Guidance Department).

Requirements:

Current high school senior or transfer student

GPA of 3.5 or better

Apply for the 20-21 academic year at one of the WACE Partners listed

The Full Sail Creative Minds Scholarship

Award Amount: up to $20,000

Deadline: February 20, 2020

Description: The Full Sail Creative Minds Scholarship is designed to identify high school

seniors who are exceptionally talented in their written and visual communication, academically

successful, and passionate about the entertainment and media industries.

Requirements:

Be a 2020 graduating high school senior earning a standard high school diploma

Have conducted a formal interview with their Full Sail Admissions Representative

and submitted their application for admission by Monday, March 11, 2020

Have completed and submitted the official Creative Minds scholarship application to

Full Sail University via the applicant’s Launch website by Monday, April 8, 2020

The scholarship application will be made available to eligible applicants upon receipt

of enrollment application on or before March 11, 2020.

Vegetarian Resource Group Scholarship

Award Amount: up to $10,000

Deadline: February 20, 2020

Description: The Vegetarian Resource Group each year will award $20,000 in college

scholarship money to graduating U.S. high school students who have promoted vegetarianism in

their schools and/or communities. Vegetarians do not eat meat, fish, or fowl. Vegans are

vegetarians who do not use other animal products such as dairy or eggs.

Graduating high school senior

Vegetarian who promotes vegetarianism in their school/community

Description: The Ned Carter Memorial Scholarship Award for High School Seniors is eligible

to high schools seniors attending a two or four year college upon graduation.

Requirements:

Applicant must be related to a firefighter, be a firefighter, or be an Explorer.

Tall Clubs International Student Scholarships

Award Amount: $1,000

Deadline: March 1, 2020

Description: Kae Sumner Einfeldt, founder of Tall Clubs International, Inc. had dreams of

creating an organization that would promote causes that benefit tall people. In 1992, one of those

dreams became a reality in the creation of the Tall Clubs International Foundation, Inc.

Each year this organization receives nominations from participating affiliate Tall Clubs

throughout North America. From this pool of nominations, the recipients are selected to receive

scholarship awards from Tall Clubs International and TCI Foundation, Inc.

Requirements:

Must be under the age of 21

Entering college this upcoming fall 2020

Meet height requirement minimums: 5’10 for women and 6’2 for men, barefoot

Must find a local Tall Club member to sponsor you

Island Christian Church

Award Amount: Up to $2,000

Deadline: March 3, 2020

Description: Island Christian Church wishes to promote genuine character development in the

youth of our community. While the church has a very active youth ministry and outreach, it is

our desire to reach beyond the confines of our church community, to the community-at-large, in

order to recognize and reward young people of proven and genuine character. The American

Heritage Scholarship is awarded to two graduating seniors, one male and one female, for Long

Island students whose lives exemplify genuine character and promote the Scriptural values upon

which our country was founded.

Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY)

Award Amount: $1,500

Description: The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York Scholarship Advisory

Committee will award 20 $1,500 scholarships to high school seniors entering college. The

awards recognize exemplary members of the youth fire service who also contribute to their

communities.

Requirements:

Be a member in good standing of FASNY or have a parent/legal guardian who is a

member

Attend high school as a senior who is enrolled in the fall 2020 school year at an

accredited two- or four-year institution of higher learning or an accredited technical

post-secondary school

Serve as a current junior firefighter, Explorer Scout or RAM in a group affiliated with

a volunteer department; a volunteer firefighter; or a volunteer with an EMS unit

Demonstrate a commitment to both the volunteer emergency service and community

The Fire Fighter Patrick O’Keefe Memorial Scholarship

Award Amount: $2,000/year for 4 years

Deadline: March 15, 2020

Description: The O’Keefe Foundation is a Not for Profit charitable organization formed in

the memory of Firefighter Patrick J. O’Keefe of the FDNY’s Rescue Company One who was

killed at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

Available to any United States citizen who is an immigrant or child of an immigrant

Or a student who has lost a parent to an act of violence.

Tri County Independent Insurance Agents Association Scholarships

Joel S. Pollack Memorial Scholarship

Award Amount: $1,000

Description: On Memorial Day weekend 1998, a drunk driver tragically killed Joel S. Pollack.

Joel was a highly regarded member of the insurance industry and believed strongly in continuing

education.

Stephen T. Dooley Community Service Award

Award Amount: $1,000

Deadline: March 22, 2020

Description: Stephen Dooley was the president of the organization, a highly respected insurance

professional and very active in his community. As a result of his death from cancer in 2005, Tri

County established an ongoing scholarship in his memory, in the areas he cherished and worked

so hard in. Applications are available in guidance.

BP Community Scholarship Program

Award Amount: $2,000

Deadline: March 22, 2020

Description: In 2017, the BP Community Scholarship Program has garnered the support of

nearly 400 local station owners and operators through their participation, support of fundraising

events and through their volunteer time. BP station owners and operators also help promote the

program through their stations and certainly encourage all eligible students to apply.

Residing in New York City, Long Island, Westchester County or northern New Jersey

New York Schools Insurance Reciprocal (NYSIR)

The Bambino Scholarship

Award Amount: up to $5,000

Deadline: March 29, 2020

Description: The Bambino Scholarship is available to a special education student who is college

bound. The goal of this scholarship is to reward a student who has worked through his or her

special challenges to complete high school and gain acceptance into a college or university. The

scholarship is in memory of Cristin Ann Bambino. Cristin was a special education student who

persevered through many obstacles and earned a Bachelor’s degree and a paralegal Certificate

before her untimely passing.

Requirements:

Applicants for this scholarship must complete an essay, not to exceed 650 words, that

addresses the following topics:

o The student’s accomplishments (clubs, athletics, volunteer activities and

academic achievements);

o Examples of how the student overcame his or her challenges;

o How the student can serve as a role model for other young people with special

challenges; and

o What the student will study in college

Greater Long Island Running Club 2019 Herb Grayson Memorial Scholarship

Award Amount: $2,000

Deadline: April 3, 2020

Pick up application in Guidance Office

Description: The Herb Grayson Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to one or more

graduating high school seniors chosen on the basis of involvement in service to the Long Island

running community.

Requirements:

You must submit a paper describing your involvement in and service to the running

community, as well as your personal running accomplishments.

The Jensen Scholarship

Award Amount: up to $5,000

Deadline: March 29, 2020

Description: The Jensen Scholarship is available to a student who has excelled in design in his

or her high school career. The goal of this scholarship is to reward a student who has shown

interest and promise in design and who wishes to pursue this path in college. The scholarship is

in memory of Paul Jensen, a marketing representative for NYSIR. Paul was a great craftsman,

able to evaluate the best functional attributes of multiple designs then converted them to sailing

canoes and then adapted a commercial roof rack to transport the canoes.

Requirements:

Applicants for this scholarship must complete an essay, not to exceed 650 words, that

explains:

o A way they would design, or adapt an existing design, for a specific purpose;

o How this design or adaptation could be accomplished;

o Why this design, or adaptation, would be unique

o Schematics or drawings are not required but may be attached to the essay to

help explain the design or adaptation

The Goncalves Scholarship

Award Amount: up to $5,000

Deadline: April 1, 2020

Description: The Goncalves Scholarship is available to a student who demonstrates an

involvement and work for a cause or organization that promotes social justice, equal opportunity,

relief of human suffering or other aspiration generally understood to be within the meaning of

humanitarian activity throughout their high school career. Diversity is encouraged. This

scholarship is in honor of NYSIR’s former Executive Director, Joseph Goncalves.

Requirements:

Applicants for this scholarship must complete an essay, not to exceed 650 words, that

explains:

o His or her experience serving others during their high school careers

o How that service has benefited others

o What that experience has personally meant to the applicant

o The essay also may include mention of inspirational role models

Scholarships

LI2Day Walk Scholarship

Award Amount: $2,500

Deadline: April 2, 2020

Description: The LI2Day Scholarship, supported by the LI2Day Walk, was established to

recognize the profound effect of breast cancer on a family. Nearly $200,000 in scholarships has

been awarded since 2005. The LI2Day Scholarship is designed to provide a one-time award of

$2,500 to a high school senior who resides with a parent or guardian who is a survivor of breast

cancer and/or other women’s cancer or resided with a parent or guardian who has passed from

breast cancer and/or other women’s cancer.

Requirements:

A resident of Nassau or Suffolk County, New York

A graduating senior, and

Have applied and received acceptance to either a two- or four-year College or

University, and

The Maria A. Sciara Scholarship

Description: The Maria A. Sciara Scholarship, administered by the LI2Day Walk, is designed to

provide a one-time award of $2,000 to a high school senior who resides with a parent or guardian

who is a survivor of cancer or has resided with a parent or guardian who has passed from cancer

(other than breast cancer or other women’s cancer). Aspiring teachers will be given extra

consideration, but it is no longer the criteria to apply for the scholarship.

Requirements:

A resident of Nassau or Suffolk County, New York

A graduating senior, and

Have applied and received acceptance to either a two- or four-year College or

University, and

Reside with a parent or guardian who is a survivor of cancer or resided with a parent

or guardian who passed from any cancer (other than breast cancer and/or other

women’s cancer)

Description: The Paradigm Challenge is an annual competition that inspires youth to use STEM

skills plus kindness, creativity and collaboration to make a difference. The 2019-20 Challenge

aims to generate new ideas to reduce waste in homes, schools, communities and around the

world. Entries of all types are accepted – posters, videos, inventions, public messages,

community events, websites, mobile apps, or anything else that will help reduce waste.

B. Davis Scholarship
