Senior Infants work pack- 11th-15th May 2020 Hi everyone I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Another week closer to the easing off of some Covid 19 restrictions. I can’t wait for a bbq with my Mum, Dad and siblings! It has been so hard not to see them over the last two months but we flattened the curve and saved lives so we need to continue to be socially distant in order to avoid another spike. I am aware that lots of you have called up to the school to collect books so that should make things easier. For those who haven’t got them yet the teachers are allowed to access the school on 18 th May so text books will become available to collect after that! Mr. O’Connor will be sending out an email detailing the dates and specific pick up times to ensure social distancing is adhered to. Lovely to see the progress on IXL. Keep up the great work. Remember to keep reading with your child every day please and thank you. It is so important and the only way a child can improve fluency and confidence is to practice, practice, practice! Jolly phonics have all the tricky words on their app. They are the words that can’t be sounded out and need to be learned off by heart from sight. Your child should know all the blue and yellow words and working on the red words. There are dolch lists available online if you want to practice some more. Also there is a list of 100 high frequency words that you can go over with your child. I have downloaded the twinkl flashcards and have them in the classroom so if anyone wants me to email them the document please let me know. You could print them off and stick a couple on the fridge and change them fortnightly! Please see the link below for a book about Coronavirus file:///C:/Users/StPatricksNS/Downloads/Coronavirus_- _A_Book_For_Children.pdf And another link to a very cute book sent on by one of the parents (thank you) about everyone having worries and that’s ok, we need to talk about our worries and not let them get on top of us (adults alike!!!)

Page 2: Senior Infants work pack- 5th-8th May 2020 · Web viewHi everyone I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Another week closer to the easing off of some Covid 19 restrictions. I can’t

Draw a picture to go with all your news. Try to get your child to write 3-4 sentences. Watch out for capital letters, finger spacing and full stops! We will be doing a Zoom meeting on Tuesday afternoon so you can show me your sentences or if you have a picture you can show us instead.

This week in Maths we are continuing the story of 10 and making sets of 10. Ask your child to write down all the different combinations to make 10 eg. 5+5=10, 7+3=10, 3+7=10 etc

Challenge: write the combinations in order going down the page eg.1+9=102+8=103+7=104+6=105+5=106+4=107+3=108+2=109+1=1010+0=10Ask your child do they notice anything about the numbers??? They should see that the numbers on the left and getting better and the numbers in the middle of the equation are getting smaller

Busy at Maths p.88 count the items and write the correct number in the box or on a page. If you have the book colour in the pictures!

Tuesday: We will do our Zoom meeting today so the children don’t have to do an English worksheet!Hopefully the children won’t be too shy! It will only be a short meeting to say hi, wave and hold up a picture or a teddy or some writing that they want to share with us! I will send a separate email to the parents who wish to be involved in the zoom meeting with our new “class zoom rules”!!!!!!!

Ask your child what they think each person is saying and then get them to write a short sentence in the speech bubble. If this is too difficult for your child ask them to say the sentence orally and Mum/Dad can do the writing!Discuss a time when they visited the zoo? Discuss something funny that happened in school or at home and try to spark some joy/light heartedness into the day. Hopefully it won’t be something silly that Mrs. Pearson did or said!!!!

Religion:This week in Religion we are doing all about food! I’m sure your child can tell you what my favourite foods are???!!!! (I’m guessing lasagne, chips and chocolate will be mentioned!!)Think about your favourite meal. The weather is fantastic so maybe you could have a picnic with your family in the garden or in your living room. Take a picture and send it to me! Have you been baking or cooking food? Who prepares the food? Where does the food come from? Remember the story of the combine harvester that had to keep reversing into the shed as it kept raining every time he revved up his engine! Are you growing any vegetables in your garden???The children will recognise the bible story of feeding the 5000 with 2 little fish and 5 loaves of bread. We meet a new character from the bible called Elijah. Please see below the notes from Jacqui Wilkinson for the week.

Food is Good(From Here we Go but suitable for Infants-2nd class)

This week’s lesson is all about food. I don’t know about your home but there seems to be a lot of chatting about food at the moment and cooking and baking going on. Have you baked or cooked anything?

There are lots of Bible stories that talk about food and there are two Bible stories to watch and chat about this week. One is about a man in the Old Testament who was really hungry and needed food and the other is when Jesus fed lots of people. Saying thank you to God for food is important and there are a number of prayers you can say with your child. You might even

Page 12: Senior Infants work pack- 5th-8th May 2020 · Web viewHi everyone I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Another week closer to the easing off of some Covid 19 restrictions. I can’t

make up your own special prayer or ‘grace’ to say at mealtimes. Activities:Session 1Song: Thank you Lord for this new day The song is found here on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njsdfxK9FcQ

Discuss: What do you most like to eat?Why do you like that food? When do you eat it?What’s your favourite breakfast food? What’s your favourite lunch? What’s your favourite dinner?

ActivityDraw your favourite foods on a piece of paper or make them from playdoh. Write a title or sign – Thank you God for my favourite foods.PrayerTake it in turns to add a food to the prayer:Thank you God for ….Thank you God for ….. and ……Thank you God for ….. and ….. and….. (continue for a few more items)Thank you God for all the food we eat. Amen.

Day 2. The picture from the book is pasted below. What would you like to eat and what would you not like to eat?

Page 13: Senior Infants work pack- 5th-8th May 2020 · Web viewHi everyone I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Another week closer to the easing off of some Covid 19 restrictions. I can’t

Discuss:Do you like bread? Where do we get our bread from?Discuss the process of bread from farm to shop. Here’s a video clip (cartoon and simple) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWY7W-lw5X8

and here is a clip describing the process in more detail https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8vLjPctrcU

The presenter of the second video said that since earliest times the process of making bread is still the same. Even in Bible times the wheat was gathered, ground into flour and mixed with yeast/oil/ water to make bread. This story is from the Old Testament so it is a story Jesus would have heard being read in the synagogue. You can read it to your child/ren here or watch a version of it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCakjL8eeIM

Elijah was really, really hungry and thirsty. Have you ever been so hungry that your tummy has

rumbled? Elijah had been hiding for a long time. The king was out to catch him and Elijah had to escape into the countryside. He lived beside a river for a little while, but then the river dried up because there was no rain. Now he was starving and thirsty. But God was taking care of Elijah because Elijah loved God. ‘I’ll tell you where to go’ said God. So Elijah set off walking. He was almost going to faint with the hunger when he met a poor woman collecting sticks for her fire. ‘I’m very thirsty’, Elijah said and she went to fetch him some water. ‘I’m really hungry too’, Elijah called after her.‘We have nothing left except a handful of flour and a drop of oil’, the woman answered. ‘My boy is so hungry I am going to make him some bread and then we will starve because I have nothing left.’‘Don’t worry’, Elijah said. ‘If you bake me a loaf of bread first and then bake yourself and your son a loaf, I promise that you won’t go hungry. The flour and oil won’t run out until the rain comes and there is more food. God will take care of you’.So she did what Elijah said. They had bread to eat every day, some for Elijah and some for the woman and her son. God was looking after them. ( 1 Kings 17. Here we Go p. 120)

What do you think was the key moment in that story?……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………How do you think the woman felt when Elijah asked her for bread?

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Imagine the boy was telling his friends what happened that day. What would he have said?

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………Don’t forget to say thank you to God for bread when you next have it.

Day 3. Discuss: Have you had a picnic with your family in the garden or on the floor in your house?

What is your favourite food for a picnic?

Did you ever have a teddy bear’s picnic? There’s a story in the Bible about a very big picnic with lots of people. It’s usually known as the Feeding of the Five Thousand.Watch the story here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCA4oivfSYk

If you had been there at that picnic would you have been surprised?Tell the story of what happened to someone in your family. There are pictures at the end of these pages taken from ©Twinkl and you could cut them out and put them on lollipop sticks or just hold them to tell the story.ActivityImagine you were there that day with all the crowds. Draw a picture of your favourite moment from the story and include yourself in the picture.Prayer
