HEALTH & SOCIAL SERVICE MEDICARE ANNUAL ENROLLMENTOCTOBER 15 – DECEMBER 7, 2021

This is the time of year for Medicare beneficiaries to make changes to Medicare coverage for the following year.

During this period, you can join or change Medicare Advantage Plans, change Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage, or drop an Advantage Plan and return to original Medicare. It is very important to watch your mail for any changes your plans are making for 2022. The Advantage plans could drop your physician (or your physician can choose to no longer accept your plan) as well as changing the way they cover your prescription drugs.

Stand alone Part D Prescription Drug Plans, change formularies and costs of medication each year. Just because your plan worked well for you in 2021 doesn’t mean it will be the same in 2022. The plan could drop coverage for some of your medications or change tiers which means you will pay more and sometimes it’s a lot more.

If you do nothing during annual enrollment, your coverage will remain the same for the following year.

The only way to be certain you are on the BEST plan for your prescription drug coverage, is to do a comparison of all plans – based on your medications. We will offer personal assistance on comparing plans this year (October 15-December7) as we have in past years. Beginning October 1, you can call the center and request an appointment by speaking to June Nicdao or Dee Brown.

If you are interested in doing the comparison yourself, you can go to www.medicare.gov, go the Plan Finder and follow the prompts.

Please take the advantage of this opportunity to evaluate your Medicare coverage. It doesn’t take long, and you can give you peace of mind and could save you lots of money.

Arthritis Support GroupWednesday, October 610:00-11:30 amIf you have a chronic illness such as arthritis, you know that dealing with chronic pain and other symptoms can often feel like an uphill battle. It can be tempting to shut yourself off and stay inside. Finding a group of people who understand what you’re experiencing, who understand what it’s like to live with chronic illness and chronic pain, can be a great way to find the inner strength to face the chal-lenge of your condition and live a fuller life. This group will share tips of care with each other, learn from others, and even go on out-ings. If you have a form of arthritis or care for someone who does, join us!Limit 25 Room 303

In addition to the arthritis support group meetings each month at the Senior Center, join others with arthritis at Beyond Aquatics on Wednesdays beginning October 13 from 1:00-2:00 pm for a weekly exercise class in warm water. Warm water is the preferred way to exercise when one has arthritis. You will get exercise, move more easily, feel better, gain strength and may even lose a little weight. Sessions will be led by Diana O'Daniel-Barfield. Diana has rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis and has found beneficial effects from using this therapy pool herself. She has years of dance training and teaching dance as well as currently training with an aqua physical therapist herself. Sessions will be $10 per class. This is a 50% discounted rate over the typical daily rate. Diana is doing this without any compensation. Please come early to sign the waiver and pay the fee. There are other plans available as well if you would like to get more involved on an individual basis. Bring your own towel. Bathing suits or shorts and t-shirts are good choices. There are 4 bath/changing rooms with showers. I recommend coming with swim gear underneath street clothes so we can get started quickly.Contact Laura Grissom at 615-848-2550 or [email protected] for more information.
