Admission Decisions
Regular Decision: Students submit applications by the deadline (usually
Jan-Feb) and receive decision in early spring.
Rolling Admission: applications are reviewed continually
Early Action: Non-binding; students submit applications early (usually
Nov. 1) and receive the decision early (usually Dec. 15).
Early Decision: Binding agreement; students agree to attend the
college if accepted and withdraw all other college applications.

To request a Transcript: 15 school days to process request once steps below are completed
Complete:
1. BHS FERPA form - submit to counseling secretary
2. Electronic request in Family Connection
3. “Transcript Request Form”
Submit form & necessary payment to the counseling secretary
▪ Scholarship, NCAA, and first 3 transcripts are free. Any additional are $5.00 each.
▪ Secondary school report is automatically completed with each transcript
▪ Mid year transcripts will be automatically sent February
This means you must submit your BHS FERPA form with
parent/guardian signature to the counseling secretary before you
can request any transcripts.

Submit “transcript request forms” during your lunch period.
Do you have a question for a counselor? Meet us in the
Commons on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of every month for “Talk to
Me Tuesday”.
Email your counselor with quick questions.
Plan ahead! Do not wait for deadlines to approach!
Students should be contacting their counselor with questions
(parents are not applying to college).
Create Common Application Account (if required by college)
YOU MUST COMPLETE:

Common App FERPA Waiver (MUST SIGN online in application)
Add colleges to which you are applying
BHS Teachers/Counselors complete forms via Family Connection
MATCH Common App to Family Connection: Type your Common App email address into the “Match”
field in Family Connection

Check admissions requirements - How many are required?
Speak to your teacher IN PERSON & provide a resume
Send electronic request in Family Connection to your teacher for each school
Teachers will send letters & Common App form directly to colleges through Family
Connection
= letter that must be mailed; provide teacher with stamped/addressed envelope
FYI - Unique Situations: VA Tech (1 with transcript) & JMU (put teacher email in
application)
Recommenders outside BHS: Community members (must be mailed by
student/community member directly to the college - except VA Tech)

Send EDU & Self-Reporting Schools
Students must still follow the BHS transcript request process
so that final transcripts are submitted indicating
“Graduation” at the end of the school year.
Battlefield counselors and teachers use Family
Connection/Naviance for the application process; we do
not use Send EDU.
REQUIRED - FIRST you must speak with your
teacher in person.

ASVAB Career/Aptitude Assessment: Register with your counselor by October 6th, Test Date
October 27 at 7:30am
Request Counselor Letter of Recommendation: Deadline is November 15th
Financial Aid Night @ BHS: October 5th 7:00pm Auditorium
