Davp 19110/13/0226/1415 GAZA GORY 604 Palestinians killed in 15 days Gaza/Jerusalem, July 22: Israel today stepped up its assault on the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, raising the Pales- tinian death toll to 604 in the 15-day conflict that has also left 29 Israelis dead, even as international efforts intensi- fied to broker a ceasefire. Israeli air strikes today destroyed several mosques and targeted a stadium and the home of a late leader of Hamas's military wing. At least five persons were killed and 70 others injured in the latest Israeli strike on a hospital in Gaza, Palestin- ian health ministry sources said, adding that several doc- tors were also wounded in the attack. PTI A strike on Deir el-Balah in central Gaza today killed five family members, four of them women. One person in nearby Nusseirat and one in Khan Yunis died in the Israeli attacks. Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said it had targeted a cache of anti-tank missiles in the hos- pital's "immediate vicinity". Over 30 members of two Palestinian families also died in Israeli strikes over- night, Gazan health officials said. The IDF today announced that nine of its men were killed yesterday, raising the number of Israeli military fatalities since the operation commenced to 27. Two Israe- li civilians have also been killed. One of the IDF trooper clas- sified as "missing" in Gaza was declared dead. However his body is still missing. Two Israeli civilians have been killed and about a dozen injured. So far, 604 Palestinians have been killed and more than 3,700 wounded since Israel began its Operation Protective Edge two weeks ago, Gaza Health Ministry officials said today. It was unclear how many of the dead were militants, but the United Nations has esti- mated that between 70-80 per cent were civilians, including at least 120 children. Israel said that its forces have killed more than 180 militants. UN agencies working in Gaza said that more than 100,000 Gazans have now been displaced and have sought shelter in UNRWA facilities where providing basic neces- sities "is an impossible chal- lenge". "Civilian casualties are a tragic inevitability of (Hamas') brutal and systemat- ic exploitation of homes, hos- pitals and mosques in Gaza," the IDF said in a statement. It said that approximate- ly 131 rockets and mortars were fired at Israel yester- day, of which at least 108 hit Israel and 17 were inter- cepted. PTI No decision taken on interlocutors' report on JK: Centre New Delhi, July 22: The Centre today said no decision has been taken on the report submitted by three interlocutors on Jammu and Kashmir in 2011 and it will welcome any "informed debate" on its contents. Replying to a question by Con- gress MP Sashi Tharoor, Minis- ter of State for Home Kiran Rijiju said the final report, including on Jammu and Kashmir rec- ommendation of the Group of Interlocutors constituted by the government in 2010 to study vari- ous aspects of the situation of the Kashmir, has been uploaded on the official website of the Union Home Ministry. He said the move has been done for the benefit of the public at large. "The government has not taken any decisions on the report. Government will welcome an informed debate on the con- tents of the report," he said in a written reply in Lok Sabha. The three interlocutors on Jammu and Kashmir submit- ted their report to the then Union Home Minister P Chi- dambaram in October 2011 laying down a road map for the government to address all issues pertaining to the state. The report was prepared by a team comprising noted journalist Dilip Padgaonkar, former Information Commis- sioner M M Ansari and acade- mician Radha Kumar. The panel was formed after 2010 crisis in which nearly 120 people died. PTI Pak violated ceasefire 19 times since Modi took over: Jaitley New Delhi, July 22: Paki- stan violated ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir 19 times since the new govern- ment took over and the Indian side retaliated appropriately in each case, the Rajya Sabha was informed today."Our head has not bowed... This government will not let our heads bow," Defence Minister Arun Jaitley said replying to questions in Rajya Sabha. Jaitley's response came when Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad said Nar- endra Modi, before becom- ing the Prime Minister, used to accuse the then UPA dis- pensation of being "weak". Then why the government has "bowed" to the recurring ceasefire violations by Paki- stan, Azad asked. PTI NEWS twitter.com/GreaterKashmir_ facebook.com/DailyGreaterKashmir epaper.GreaterKashmir.com
