The importance of a good Primer

• Improves adhesion of levelling compounds to subfloors

• Maximises levelling compound flow and strength development

• Helps control absorbency, bond strength and drying rate of flooring adhesives

• Significantly reduces shrinkage

• Improves resistance to water, shock, frost and chemical damage

We are able to recommend PROBOND® PR260 for all of the following substrates:

PROBOND® PR260 All Purpose Primer is an acrylic primer (Styrene Butadiene) making it a perfect one-part primer for use on porous and difficult substrates prior to tiling or screeding. It also seals gypsum plasters and screeds prior to the addition of cement-based products. It is coloured green for easy identification.

PROBOND® PR220 is an excellent Primer for non-porous surfaces. 1x 5Kg tub covers up to 100m2.

• Coloured orange, for ease of application

• Wide range of substrates

• Excellent adhesion

• Easy to use 2 part mixing system

When you need a DPMInstalling a DPM is an essential element, as it acts as a barrier to prevent damp rising up through the substrate, from the ground below. PROBOND® PR298 works as a DPM where a structural damp proof membrane is not present or is defective, or where the residual moisture content is up to 98% RH. After curing, the membrane produced can accommodate 98% (Relative Humidity) RH on cement screeds and 87% RH on anhydrite / calcium sulphate screeds without any bond strength issues.

PROBOND® PR298 is structured to resist water, grease, oil, dilute mineral and organic acids. It is a two-part, solvent free, epoxy damp proof membrane. It is a one-coat system, however if a structural membrane is not present PROBOND® PR298 should be applied as a 2-coat system.

COVERAGE

95-98% RH One coat. Uniform pin-hole finish. Maximum coverage rate of 22m2

Below 95% RH One coat. Uniform pin-hole finish. Maximum coverage rate of 25m2

Up to 87% RH (An-hydrite / Calcium Sulphate)

One coat. Uniform pin-hole finish. Maximum coverage rate of 22m2

Structural Damp Proof Membrane not present

Two coats. Apply both coats to a coverage of 18-22m² per 10kg. Coverage depends on type of substrate and porosity. Let the first coat cure before applying the second.

A fast curing system, PROBOND® PR298 cures in 4-5 hours. Within 24 hours of PROBOND® PR298 being applied, PROBOND® FL390 and FL301 can be applied directly to the surface without the need to prime.

If 24 hours has elapsed, or other products (instead of FL390 or FL301) are used (such as PROBOND® FL325, FL307 or FL330) within 24 hours, the surface must be primed with one coat of PROBOND® PR260.

If the DPM is tacky, it is not fully cured and additional time should be left for curing.

Help in choosing the right Levelling CompoundThere is without doubt a wide choice of options available and advice should be taken if a specialist compound may be required. To choose the right type of floor levelling compound, it is necessary to consider the difference in levels needed for a particular floor, compatibility with the type of substrate, the area of work and the necessary timeframe of the job.

Your Easy ChecklistUse this simple checklist to determine which levelling compound gives you the perfect solution.

I need a slower drying time or fastest on this project:

If more than 1 option still remains, consider greatest coverage and if a bag and bottle is better than a water-based product – i.e. general site restrictions / requirements:

Don’t forget to see our website for a great calculator on how many bags of levelling compound you need.
