Come and celebrate the Feast of the Assumption, our archdiocesan feast day, with Archbishop Anthony Mancini at the 12:15pm Mass at Saint Mary’s Cathedral Basilica. During this Mass, Archbishop Mancini will also make an act of consecration to Mary in honor of Canada’s 150 th Birthday. The Canadian bishops took the initiative this year to consecrate our country to Mary. This gesture of faith entrusts our country, its leadership, our dioceses, and every member of our family of faith to Mary’s maternal care. All are welcome! A reception will follow in the church hall. For our Acadian region it is also a special day: it is National Acadian Day! Félicitations à tous notre amies dans les communites acadies dans l’Archdiocèse d’Halifax-Yarmouth! Pope Francis urges us to seek Mary’s intercession, most notably in the opening words of the closing prayer he offers at the end of his apostolic exhortation, Joy of the Gospel: On August 15 let us seek in a particular way the intercession of Mary as we seek to bring about God’s kingdom in our local Church. Summer: A time for Transformation.

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church - PART ONE: THE PROFESSION OF FAITH - SECTION ONE “I BELIEVE” – “WE BEIEVE” CHAPTER ONE MAN’S CAPACITY FOR GOD.

IN BRIEF 44 Man is by nature and vocation a religious being. Coming from God, going toward God, man lives a fully human life only if he freely lives by his bond with God. 45 Man is made to live in communion with God in whom he finds happiness: When I am completely united to you, there will be no more sorrow or trials; entirely full of you, my life will be complete (St. Augustine, Conf. 10, 28, 39: PL 32, 795}. 46 When he listens to the message of creation and to the voice of conscience, man can arrive at certainty about the existence of God, the cause and the end of everything. 47 The Church teaches that the one true God, our Creator and Lord, can be known with certainty from his works, by the natural light of human reason 48 We really can name God, starting from the manifold perfections of his creatures, which are likenesses of the infinitely perfect God, even if our limited language cannot exhaust the mystery. 49 Without the Creator, the creature vanishes (GS 36). PRAYER INTENTIONS Brian Doherty and family Jeanne Richard Dorothy Briggs Nancy and Bill Withers Janet Tufts Margie MacNeil Josephine Day Saint Paul Parish “Three Year Pastoral Plan”

It has been said, “Everyone believes in something”. As Catholic Christians, we profess a faith in God through His Son Jesus Christ. But how well do we know this person who took on our human form, except sin, suffered and died for us and opened for us eternal life? By our baptism we are to live our lives as He has shown us. This can be an easy task when everything is going our way, but how are we when difficulties arise, when we experience pain and suffering, when our loved one is experiencing difficulties? Is our relationship with Jesus such that we can follow Him in good times AND through difficult times? Knowing about someone isn’t the same as knowing that person. Our relationship with Jesus is demonstrated by the life we lead and the faith we exemplify each day.
