defined as a licensed club/restaurant offering refreshments on a regular basis.2. A temporary change of venue may occur only with the approval of both team captains. This venue must be a

regularly used venue by a team within the SSDA.3. A permanent change of venue must be approved by the Executive Council and two weeks notice given to the

League Secretary, when possible, to allow for the approval process.4. The playing area must be adequate in height, width and depth, with no obstructions, to allow for unrestricted

dart throwing by players standing at the throwing line (oche).5. There shall be at least two dartboards that are adequately lit. Each dartboard shall have an oche, a scoreboard, and a cushioned runway in front of it.Without the permission of both team captains, no playing of pool will be allowed where any portion of the pool table

2.8 PLAYING TEAM Each team roster shall consist of a minimum of four (4) members. A minimum of three players is required to play

a match. Before each game series, the two-team captains will list their players in projected throwing order on the score

sheet. After the first captain has listed his players, he will fold the sheet so the names of his players are not visible, but the other captain can write the names of his players. Once play has commenced there shall be no substitutions, unless both team captains agree. A substitution could take place if a player is called away for duty related reasons or cannot continue due to sickness or emergency. Players in divisions playing 17, 15, 13, or 11 game matches may play once in each game series. Players in divisions playing nine game matches may only play in either Singles -01 or Singles Cricket not both.

In singles matches with one incomplete team, the incomplete team will leave one match blank (Captain’s choice) for each series (-01 and CP). The opposing player in the match gets an automatic win of all three legs. In a nine game series, one of the singles 301 or singles CP will be left blank.

In doubles and the team match, an incomplete team will leave one spot blank and the player(s) will play in a normal team rotation as if a player shot in the blank spot. If a single player defeats a two-person team, the single player will be awarded double QP’s and double legs for that match.

If two incomplete teams play, the following guidelines will be used:(a) For divisions playing 17 games, the fourth spot of all singles series and the second spot of both doubles

series will be left blank and will count as losses for both teams. There will be three games of each singles -01, three games of singles cricket, one game of doubles -01, one game of doubles cricket and one team game of -01 for a total of twelve (12) points.

(b) For divisions playing 15 games, the fourth spot of both singles series and the second spot of both doubles series will be left blank and will count as losses for both teams. There will be three games of each singles -01, three games of singles cricket, one game of doubles -01, one game of doubles cricket and one team game of -01 for a total of eleven (11) points.

(c) For divisions playing 13 games, the fourth spot of both singles series and the second spot of both doubles series will be left blank and will count as losses for both teams. There will be three games of each singles -01, three games of singles cricket, one game of doubles -01, one game of doubles cricket and one team game of -01 for a total of nine (9) points.

(d) For divisions playing 11 games, the fourth spot of the singles -01 and the second spot of both doubles series will be left blank and will count as losses for both teams. There will be three games of each singles -01, two games of singles cricket, one game of doubles -01, one game of doubles cricket and one team game of -01 for a total of eight (8) points.

(e) For divisions playing nine game matches, the team captains will decide whether to leave the last singles -01 or the last singles cricket blank. If the team captains cannot come to a mutual agreement, the last cricket singles by both teams will be left blank. Teams will also leave the second spot of both doubles series blank and they will count as losses for both teams. There will be a total of three games of singles (combination of –01 and cricket), one game of doubles –01, one game of doubles cricket and one team game of –01 for a total of six points.

The 1001 option. While we highly encourage all teams to play the 1001 team game we know there are occasions the teams are running late for whatever reason and don’t want to make up the one game. Therefore you have one of the two following options.

(a) The 1001 (No Team Win Option). If all players on both teams agree they do not have time to play and don’t want to play 1001 they can simple write “N/A” on the score sheet instead of an “X” and neither team will receive any credit for the game.

(b) The 1001 (Team Win Option). Both captains will list four players in the order he wishes them to throw against four from the opposing team. The top listed player for each team will diddle to see which team goes first. The winner of the diddle will throw 3 darts for bullseye, followed by the loser of the diddle. All four players from each team will shoot 3 darts for bullseye in turn. At the end of the four rounds, whichever team has the most bullseyes wins. If the two teams are tied after four rounds, the order is repeated in a “sudden death” format. Extra QP’s (3 bullseyes or more in one round) will count as if this was an ordinary match.

2.9 MATCH 1. Match play shall be reflective of the game series on the score sheet. Detailed instructions on how to play the

game formats are outlined in 4. Appendix A.2. The team game must have a minimum of three players per team but has no maximum.3. All games will be played on two (2) dartboards unless agreed upon by both team captains.

2.10 SCORING 1. A win/loss point shall be given to each team for each of the games played i.e. 17, 15, 13, 11 or 9 points.

8

Page 9: SECTION I -- CONSTITUTIONsongtandarts.com/Docs/Bylaws_Aug09.doc  · Web viewIn singles matches with one incomplete team, the incomplete team will leave one match blank (Captain’s

Songtan - Si Dart Association Bylaws 8/26/2009

2.11 QUALITY POINTS 1. Quality points (QP’s) are awarded to players for various throws. A detailed explanation is in 4. Appendix A.

.2.12 TIME/DAY

1. League play will be on Wednesday at 1930 hours.2. Not more than five minutes may elapse between games.3. Boards will be available for warm up NLT 1845 hours.

2.13 REPORTING RESULTS 1. Instructions on filling out score sheets are contained in 4. Appendix A.2. The section on protests will cover any questions of accuracy.3. Team captains will turn in the score sheet to the league Secretary or put in the drop box.

2.14 RESCHEDULING MATCHES 1. A match may be postponed or rescheduled for a different day, time or venue (2.7.2) by mutual agreement of

team captains. Notice must be given forty-eight (48) hours prior to scheduled match play to request a reschedule. Insufficient time notification allows the opposing captain the right to receive the wins as forfeiture. Again, any work commitment is considered valid justification.

2. It is the responsibility of the team captain requesting the change to notify the League Secretary and to contact the opposing team captain in order to reschedule the match. (Common courtesy is to notify the opposing team captain as soon as you realize your team cannot play.)

Makeup matches must be made up within three weeks of the original scheduled date. Both team captains must inform the League Secretary weekly and inform him of the status of the match. Teams that do not contact the League Secretary weekly and/or have no valid reason for not playing the match within the three week period will lose two (2) win points for each week the match is delayed unless they have a work related reason.

4. Makeup matches must be made up within three weeks of the original scheduled date. If a team captain attempts to contact the other team captain with no success, they must contact the League Secretary and inform him of the problem. Teams that do not contact the League Secretary and/or have no valid reason for not playing the match within the three week period will lose two (2) win points for each week the match is delayed unless they have a work related reason.

5. Any work commitment is considered a valid reason to reschedule a match.6. It is not the responsibility of the Executive Council to verify reasons for rescheduling matches. The word and

integrity of each team captain is considered sufficient justification. Flexibility is and must be the league’s bottom line.

7. No rescheduling of match play will be allowed after the final night of league play.

2.15 DEFAULTS 1. A team will be considered in default if it cannot field a legal team (at least 3 players) within fifteen minutes after

the scheduled match starting time.In case of default, the opposing team will be awarded the number of games won plus half the losses rounded up

against the defaulting team in the previous match played against that defaulting team with the following minimums per division:(a) For divisions playing 17 games, not less than nine (9) games. (b) For divisions playing 15 games, not less than eight (8) games.(c) For divisions playing 13 games, not less than seven (7) games.(d) For divisions playing 11 games, not less than six (6) games. (e) For divisions playing nine games, not less than five (5) games.

3. If the default is in the first round of play, the opposing team will be awarded the following number of wins and his number will be adjusted based upon rule 2.15.2 the next time the opposing team plays the defaulting team. (a) For divisions playing 17 games, nine (9) games.(b) For divisions playing 15 games, eight (8) games.

9

Page 10: SECTION I -- CONSTITUTIONsongtandarts.com/Docs/Bylaws_Aug09.doc  · Web viewIn singles matches with one incomplete team, the incomplete team will leave one match blank (Captain’s

(c) For divisions playing 13 games, seven (7) games.(d) For divisions playing 11 games, six (6) games. (e) For divisions playing nine games, five (5) games.

4. The team that defaults will be given the number of loss points for games played in that division, i.e. 17, 15, 13, 11 or 9 points.

5. If a team plays completed rounds with one default in each round and then withdraws in a later round, the teams in the completed rounds that won by default shall receive the following, if the conditions in 2.15.2 haven’t been complied with:

For divisions playing 17 games, seventeen (17) points. For divisions playing 15 games, fifteen (15) points. For divisions playing 13 games, thirteen (13) points. For divisions playing 11 games, eleven (11) points. For divisions playing nine games, nine (9) points.

2.16 WITHDRAWAL 1. A team shall be considered to have withdrawn from the league for the following reasons:

(a) The League Secretary receives written notice from the team captain.(b) A team defaults two times during a round of play during a season. (A round of play is defined as the

series of matches in which each team plays one time against every other team in their division or conference.)

2. Upon withdrawal during the season, all points scored against the withdrawing team shall stand only for completed rounds of play and shall be voided for any incomplete rounds of play. (A completed round of play is defined for 5, 6, 7 and 8 team divisions or conference as having played all of the other teams or forfeiting only once in a round. For divisions with 4 teams, a completed round consists of playing all 3 other teams while any rounds including a forfeit will be considered incomplete.)

3. Players who do not show up for 2 of the last three matches of the season, which results in their team having to default, shall be subject to possible suspension from the SSDA. The Board of Governors will determine action taken.

4. Clubs whose team(s) withdraw(s) during the season shall be subject to a possible penalty of the option of sponsoring one team the next season for each team that withdraws. The Board of Governors of the season the withdrawl(s) take place will determine the action to be taken.

2.17 PROTESTS 1. Protests concerning the violation of any of the league rules may only be made by the team captains/co-

captains.2. Protests must be communicated to the League Secretary within one week of the match by an explanation on

the score sheet or otherwise in writing.3. The Rules Committee rules on all protests.4. The decision of the Rules Committee may be appealed to the Board of Governors within one week of the

Rules Committee’s decision.

2.18 CHAMPIONS 1. The end of season ranking of each division and conference will be determined by whoever has the most wins

points.2. In the event of a tie in 2.18.1, the head-to-head record will determine season ranking.3. If there is still a tie after 2.18.2, then a one-match playoff between the two teams in consideration will be

played.4. No QP’s or other statistical data shall be used or awarded from any playoff matches.5. All players in order to be eligible for playoff matches must have played on the team at least three legal

matches.

2.19 AWARDS 1. The Prize committee will decide all awards no later than the fourth week of the season.

weight and consist of a recognizable point, barrel and flight. All League Competition including tournaments shall be conducted on a Standard English “bristle” 20-point clock

face dartboard of top quality and not of Puma brand. Boards will be set a minimum of five (5) feet from bull to bull.

All dartboards shall be adequately lit with suitably positioned light fixtures. Adequately lit will be considered to have at least two (2) “spot” style lights set a minimum of two (2) feet (60 cm) apart, per board, or fluorescent tube lights to illuminate the dart boards.

Scoreboards shall be mounted in the shooters general range of view so as the shooter can easily view the score without requiring movement from the toe line.

Once the proper measurement for the toe line is obtained, a line (tape) will extend a minimum of two feet from the center in both directions. (A continuous line from board to board is preferred.) If tape is used, the toe line will be the edge closest to the dartboard, if a commercial strip is used, the toe line will be the line dividing the two colors.

A standard out chart will be mounted in the shooters general range of view so as the shooter can easily view the recommended out without requiring movement from the toe line.

3.2 THROWS 1. Darts must be thrown from and by the hand.2. A throw shall consist of a maximum of three darts unless a leg is finished in less than three darts.3. Any dart that falls from the throwing hand while the hand is in a throwing motion is considered a thrown dart.4. Any dart bouncing off or falling out of the dartboard shall not be re-thrown, except for throws for the middle to

start a leg (diddle).5. All throws shall be made from behind the throwing line or oche and an imaginary straight line extending either

side from the throwing line or oche. Also see 3.1.56. Any participant involved in the match may not practice on any other board or the game board once the match

has begun. Players that arrive after the match has begun may warm up if both team captains agree.7. If a player knowingly wins the leg in less than three darts or busts in less than three darts, any additional darts

thrown are considered practice and are not allowed.(a) For the first offense of this rule, the player will be given a warning.(b) The second offense by the same player will cause the forfeiture of that leg.(c) The third offense by the same player will cause the dismissal of that player from the match for the rest of

that night.8. In no case shall any dart(s) be thrown in anger either towards the floor or towards the dartboard. This is cause

for dismissal of that player from the match for the rest of the night.

3.3 STARTING A GAME Once a match has begun, players may only take a nine (9) dart warm-up practice after their game has been called

and there is at least one opponent present. The opposing team captain may grant exceptions.2. Starting the first leg, the Home team will have the option to diddle first or second, the loser of the first leg will

have the option in the second leg, and if needed the Visiting team will have the option in the third leg.

3. The dart closest to the middle shall go first. However, if both darts hit a single bull or both darts hit a double bull, the players will diddle again with the player that just diddled first going second this time. Note: A double bull beats a single bull.

4. When throwing for the middle the dart must remain in the board in order to count.(a) Additional throws must be made until a dart remains in the board from both players. If a dart from the second player dislodges the dart from the first player, the first player shall make a re-throw.

5. Re-throws shall be called for if the scorer cannot decide which dart is nearer the middle. Additionally, all darts will be removed from the board prior to the re-throw. The reason for this is so that no player is given an unfair advantage.

6. In doubles play, the player that did not diddle the first leg must diddle the second leg.  Either player may diddle the third leg.  The player that diddles must start the leg for his team.

7. Either player may acknowledge the first dart as a single or double bull and ask for that dart to be removed prior to the second players or teams throw.

3.4 SCORING IN GENERAL 1. The scorers for each game in league matches shall be a person acceptable to both team captains.2. In league play, the Home team shall keep score first and alternate thereafter.3. For a dart to score, it must remain in the board until after the final dart has been thrown and the scorer

acknowledges the score.4. In order to score, the point of the dart must enter the surface of the board.5. A dart’s score shall be determined from the side of the wire at which the point of the dart enters the board.6. No one is allowed to touch the darts in the board until the player at the oche has touched them. If a dart is

touched, that constitutes the end of that players turn or in the case of diddling for the middle, both players will diddle again in the same order. The exception to this rule is as stated in 3.3.7.

7. It is the responsibility of the player to verify their written score before removing darts from the dartboard.8. The score shall be entered on the scoreboard by the scorer after the throw is completed.9. The scorer may only tell the player how many points have been scored and/or how many points remain when

asked, not how to shoot the finish to a leg of game.10. A player may step off the line and communicate with anyone on their team on strategy during the game. No

player may talk to anyone on his or her team about strategy while on the line.11. It is the players’ responsibility to throw the correct numbers. If the player is told to shoot an out by anyone and

it is the wrong number, the darts stand and the correct score prevails.12. In games of -01, errors in math shall stand as written on the scoreboard unless corrected prior to the next

throw of the player or team whose score is in error.13. In games of cricket, errors in math shall stand as written on the scoreboard unless corrected prior to the next

player’s throw. The scorer shall sit or stand as still as possible and watch the dartboard, not the player.

Note: In order to extend the life of the dartboard, it should be rotated weekly clockwise six segments. (I.e. the first rotation should move the 10 to the position of the 20).

4.2 SETUP MEASUREMENTS

DART BOARD 7’ 9.25” (2.37m) 5’8” from center bull (1.73m)

Diagonal 9’7.41” from center of bull (2.93m)

Oche

A raised oche may be provided and, if so, shall measure 38mm (1.5”) high and91.5mm (36”) long and positioned that the back of the oche lines up with the back edge of the line. Also, see 3.1.5

4.3 GAMES OF -01 1. Games of 301 shall be double in - double out.2. Games of 501 and 1001 shall be straight start - double out.3. In double-start games, to commence scoring, a dart must land in the double band or the double bull. That

double and all subsequent darts shall count for score.4. In straight start legs, all darts landing in the scoring surface of the dartboard shall count for score.5. In order to win, the player’s dart must land in the double band of the number equal to one-half of the remaining

score. EXAMPLE: If 36 points are left, the finishing number would be a double 18.6. Any dart thrown by a player after hitting the required double out shall not count.7. All games of -01, the score shall be subtracted from the starting number specified on the score sheet. The bust rule: If a player scores more points than remain in the leg, or the same points as remaining without

finishing on the required double, or leaves a remaining score of one (1) point, then that throw and score shall not count and the score remains as it was prior to that throw.

4.4 GAMES OF CRICKET 1. The game of Cricket shall include the following numbers: 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, and the bull’s eye.2. In order to win the player(s) must close all of the numbers and have a score equal to or higher than their

opponent does.3. To close a number, the number must be hit three (3) times in any combination, (i.e., one triple will close a

number, a double and a single will close a number and three singles will close a number).4. Players score points by hitting a number that they have closed and their opponent(s) have not closed. (I.e.,

your team hits four twenty’s (20) on your first shot and the other team has not closed the twenty, your team closes the 20s and scores 20 points).

5. If both teams have closed a number, neither team can score points on that number.6. Numbers can be shot in any order.7. Prior to throwing, the shooter must declare which number they are throwing for.8. The outer bull counts as a single bull’s eye. The inner bull counts as two bull’s eyes

4.5 QP STRUCTURES 1. QP’s will be annotated on the back of the score sheet.2. QP’s for scoring, doubling in (DI), or doubling out (DO) will only be counted in games of -01.3. QP’s in cricket will be annotated as marks (M) and bulls (B).

Measurement Formula

7’9. 25”

7’9. 25” = (7x12) + 9.25 = 93.25

5’8” = (5x12) + 8 = 6893.252 + 682 = 11319.5611319 56. = 115.41

(9x12) + 7.41 = 115.41

4. For a QP to count, the darts thrown to get the QP must be in countable numbers. This is especially important in Cricket. Some examples are:(a) You hit a single 20, a triple 20 and then a double 19 and your opponent has already closed 20s. You do

not get credit for six marks because only three 20s were countable.(b) You only need two bulls to win the game and you hit a single bull and then a double bull. You do not get

credit for three bulls because you only needed two bulls to win the leg. The third bull is not countable.(c) You have everything closed, but you are down 100 points and your opponent has not closed the 20s, so

you hit two triple 20s. You only get credit for five 20s because that ties the score and wins the leg.5. All cricket numbers hit are marks, even if some of the numbers were hit for cricket score (i.e., you hit six 16’s

which gave you three 16’s to close and 48 points for score. This gives you six marks (6M).6. Bull’s eyes may count for bulls (B) or marks (M). (I.e. If you needed both 15’s and bulls and you hit a triple 15,

a single bull and a double bull, you can count this as either 3 bulls (3B) or 6 marks (6M), but not both.)7. An example of how to fill out the QP’s for individuals is on the back of the score sheet.

4.6 SCORE SHEET INSTRUCTIONS 1. Use the abbreviations on the score sheet as applicable (DI), (DO), M), and (B) for QP’s.2. At the end of the night total up the number of legs won for each individual, enter this number under the LEGS WON column. Multiply this number by 10 and put the result in the column marked LEGS WON X 10.

3. Total up each player’s individual QP’s shot and put this number in the TOTAL QP’S column. Add this number to the number generated in the LEGS WON X 10 column and put the total in the TOTAL QPS + TOTAL LEGS column.4. There is no credit given for legs won through forfeit (team defaults and forfeits due to incomplete teams only).5. Score sheets will contain the following information which will be checked for accuracy by both team captains:

(a) The date, week number and division and conference will be annotated at the top of the sheet.(b) The sheets will contain players’ names or nicknames.(c) Legs and games won will be clearly marked including result of team game.(d) Any special scores will be annotated in the Special Achievements box.(e) The QP section will be properly annotated.(f) Both team Captain’s signatures on the front.
