How Do We Forget God? • Not keeping his commandments and rules and

statues (8:13) • When your heart turns away from God (8:14)• When you forget how God has provided for you

and delivered you (8:15-17) • When you begin to believe that it is by your

power, your strength, and your mighty hand that you have obtained what you have before you. (8:17)

• When you go after other gods and serve them and worship them alone. (8:19)

A Friendly Reminder (chapter 9)

• Why is God giving them this land? • Why is He driving out our enemies

completely? • Not because of YOUR RIGHTEOUSNESS, but

because of the wickedness of the nations. • Truth is you are not a RIGHTEOUSS people but

a STUBBORN and REBELLIOUS NATION (v. 6 - 8)

Circumcise Your Heart

• The Sign of the Mosaic Covenant was circumcision

• In 10:16 we are called to have a circumcision of our heart

• Why? The human heart is by nature stubborn and rebellious towards God

• A circumcised heart is a heart responding in faith to God’s grace.

• See Colossians 2:11 -13

Another Early Creed

For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of LORDS, the great and

mighty, and awesome God, who is not partial and takes no bribe. He executes

justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the sojourner, giving

him food and clothing. Exodus 10:17 – 18

Love and Serve the Lord (chapter 11)

• Chapter 11 is filled with reminders of our call to Love the Lord our God and to keep his commands, statues, and rules.

• Israel’s possession of the Promise Land and God’s blessing of the land and their life in it is directly tied to their faithfulness and obedience.

• In order to LOVE God and SERVE God requires that we take God’s Word serious in both our life and in the life of your children.
