The People Behind the Project: Bringing the Second Avenue Subway to Life, the exhibit is a series of short documentary style videos that tell the story of the first major expansion of the New York City Subway in decades. In addition to the wall installation, the center also features an interactive exhibit, presented at four stations with iPads and high-definition monitors. The interactive exhibit features 17 videos - a six-minute feature film, six “Digging Deeper” videos that focus on specific topics including leadership and construction, and 10 short films in which individuals share personal stories. SAS Community News

Escalators for Entrance 1 were delivered to 83rd Street for installation. The contractor has installed ten of the thirteen escalators in the station and the final parts will arrive this month. Construction Update

• The center work zone on Second Avenue between 78th and 79th Streets will be maintained to pour concrete for tracks in the underground tunnels

• Replacement of the 12” water main on the west side of Second Avenue between 83rd and 84th Streets is completed. Replacement of the larger 48” water main is ongoing

• Sidewalk restoration on the west side of Second Avenue between 82nd and 84th Streets is ongoing

• Construction of the Ancillary 1 building (northwest corner of 83rd Street) has reached full height. Above ground work will continue, including installation of building finishes

• There will be intermittent sidewalk closures on the east side of Second Avenue between 83rd and 84th Street to facilitate deliveries of the final few pieces of the escalators for the station entrance. The deliveries, approved by DOT, will only occur during off-peak hours (10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.). Pedestrians will be directed by flaggers to the west side of Second Avenue

• Construction of the ADA elevator on the southeast corner of 86th Street and Second Avenue will continue

• The contractor continues to receive deliveries of equipment at the Ancillary 2 access shaft (northwest corner of 86th Street)

• Delivery of station and traction power equipment, escalators, elevators, signal, and communication systems will continue.

• Installation of HVAC duct work and electrical conduit continues at all levels in the station

• Installation of wall and ceiling cladding at the platform level and the wall cladding framing at the mezzanine level is underway

• Platform service carrier installation is now complete

• Mezzanine service carrier installation is ongoing

Future Mezzanine level of 86th Street Station Entrance.

The future 86th Street Station will have two new entrances including 10 escalators, and one street-level ADA accessible elevator at the southeast corner of 86th Street and Second Avenue. Work in this area is to construct the station cavern, entrances and ancillary spaces for the future station.

The follow-on contractor 86th Street Constructers, Joint Venture (86STCJV) took over the finishes portion of the contract in December 2014. 86STCJV is responsible for the construction of the station facilities and architectural finishes, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, and entrances above street level; construction of the ancillary facilities up to and above street level; and restoration of the street and sidewalks in the station area. Estimated completion of this station is Fall of 2016.

Construction progress statistics as of March 1, 2016:

• The Finishes, Entrances, Ancillaries, and Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Systems Contract (86th St. Constructors JV) is: 75.37% complete.

• The 86th Street Station is 90.35% complete.

• The Second Avenue Subway project construction is 91.9% complete.
