Description: “Sing to the Lord a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.” Ps 33:3.
Singing and playing instruments are meant to be a way for us to express ourselves to the Lord. As a
vocalist and pianist, Elizabeth Otto wishes to relate the delight of skillful music-making to her students.
Committed to giving the best learning experience possible to her students, Elizabeth strives to integrate
creative teaching methods that appeal to a wide range of learning styles. Pianists and vocalists ranging
from beginning to intermediate levels are welcome to participate in lessons. Parental presence during
lessons is welcomed to assist younger learners with practice at home.
(Please note: If this is the only SCHC lesson/class you sign up for, you will still need to register with the co-
op by submitting a Family Registration Contract and by paying the registration fee.)
Required Text: Materials are generally chosen by the instructor, depending on the age and experience of
the student. All materials are paid for by the parents of the students.
Homework Expectations: The key to improving any skill is practice! Students will be required to practice
an assigned amount of minutes per week based on age, level, and lesson time. In addition, the student will
receive a sheet of weekly practice goals detailing what should be practiced and what practice method
should be used.
Instructor: Elizabeth Otto
Tuition: Parents are expected to pay the full tuition in advance at the first lesson of each month for all of
the available class days in the month. It is also the expectation that students who sign up for lessons are
doing so for the full school year, since it can be very difficult to fill lesson slots in the middle of the year.
Since the class days per month can vary, the tuition amount will vary accordingly. There are no refunds or
makeup lessons for missed lessons. A more detailed policy statement will be given to every parent, which
they will then sign and return to the teacher. Current tuition is $20 per weekly half-hour lesson. Tuition
rates are subject to change at the discretion of the teacher. Please reach Elizabeth at 206-713-2193 or
[email protected] for more information.

Description: Fall and Winter Trimester: Paper is a versatile material with many uses. We will spend the
fall and winter trimesters transforming this simple textile into a variety of craft projects. Projects will
include journals, origami, mosaic, paper bag pockets, papel picado, silhouettes, envelope books,
snowflakes, quilling, pop-up cards, paper Mache puppets, crepe birds/fancy bouquets, and envelope
keepsakes.
Spring Trimester: We will explore batik in a kid-friendly way with no hot wax or vats of dye. Because batik
is a multi-step process requiring time for drying, we will be working on different steps of several projects
at once. We will also learn some basic stitching techniques (tying knots in thread, back stitch, whip stitch,
tying off thread to finish) to put finishing touches on our projects. Projects will include pillow casings, doll
(or stuffed animal) blanket and pillow sets, and wall hangings. We may even attempt purses/pouches if we
have enough time and budget.
Required Supplies: Required Papercraft Supplies: 2013-2014 calendar journal (any size will do, but I
suggest 5x7 or larger), x-acto knife and cutting mat, sharp scissors, ruler, acid free glue sticks, masking
tape, markers, and decorative papers. *The following are not required but will make for a much more
enjoyable journaling experience: stamps/ink pad, stickers, washi tape (fun Japanese tapes), watercolors,
and “scraps” from any leftover paper projects – there is no such thing as trash!
For fall/winter trimester:
• You must send a project bag for bringing home completed projects. You student needs to bring the
above required papercrafting supplies to each class each Friday.
For spring trimester:
• You must send a smock (or large work shirt) every day of class as we will be using glue and paint that
can ruin clothing.
• You must send a project bag for bringing home completed or partially completed projects.
Handcrafts: Paper, Batik, Stitching (3rd – 6th Grade)
Homework Expectations: Fall/Winter: Your student will need to journal daily. Spring: Some stitching to
progress on a project outside of class time may be needed.
Instructors: Shelly Lischke (Fall/Winter), Kay Swartwood (Spring)
Supply Fee per trimester: $25 for Fall Trimester, $15 for Winter Trimester, $30 for Spring Trimester.
Papercraft supply fees will be used to purchase the following of which your student will be creating
projects with in class and taking home tools at the end of the winter trimester. Specialty papers, bone
folder, paper bags, Velcro, quilling kits, envelopes, tracing paper, PVC glue, acrylic paints, fabric, ribbon,
bookbinding materials, paper fasteners, floral wire and tape.
Spring supply fees will be used to purchase for each student: 1yd of cotton fabric, a pillow form, batting,
thread, needles, dowel, blue glue, acrylic paints, paint brush set, and a zipper. I initially priced these out to
over $30 per student, so I will be relying on sales or will drop the purse/pouch project to stay within
budget.

Description: This high school literature course will help students learn and improve skills in reading,
analyzing, and writing about literature. This course will provide an introduction for students who have
done little literary analysis, but will also be challenging enough for more experienced students. Using short
stories, novels, poetry, and drama, students will learn literary elements including plot and structure,
characters, theme, setting, and point of view. Students will also become familiar with recognizing literary
devices such as allusions, parallelism, symbolism, and irony. This course will guide students in recognizing
an author’s worldview and comparing it to the biblical worldview so that they may exercise discernment in
all their reading. The primary focus for composition will be the literary analysis essay, but students will
start the year off reviewing and practicing basic paragraph structure and have other opportunities to
practice writing skills.
This class will provide one full credit in English for high school students. Students will be graded on
homework, essays, quizzes, projects, and class participation.
Additional note: For students who struggle with reading, this is still an excellent course, as a majority of
the concepts are taught using short stories. If you are concerned about your student’s ability to complete
this course, please email or meet with me. My goal is to make this a valuable experience for all students
and to help them succeed!
Literature and Composition (8th – 12th Grade)
HONORS: I will be offering an Honors option for this course. Honors students will complete all the
assignments from the regular syllabus, but also have additional outside reading (including one or two
additional novels) and at least two extra papers. The Honors option will also require a Student Contract
signed by the student, parent, and teacher. Completing the Honors option in addition to the regular
coursework will allow the title “Honors” to be added to the student’s transcript. If you are interested in
having your student complete the Honors option, please let me know by the end of June so that I have
time to develop the Honors syllabus. My email is: [email protected] .

God-given talents in the church. The emphasis of this class is practical team-building that will result in
students learning how to confidently play their instruments in a worship setting. Students will individually
and as a team learn to develop musical techniques specific to their instruments that will allow them to
play worship music as a band.
In addition to practicing and performing worship songs, students will also receive an introduction to
worship theology as well as primary-level music theory. Some ways in which the band will be serving the
co-op may include but are not limited to: Christmas celebration/Craft Fair day, leading worship during
chapel, and leading worship during the student showcase night at the end of the year.
Through this course, our vision is not only to help developing musicians but to instill a desire to glorify God
with our instruments. (Ps 33:3)
Prerequisites: • Students must have some level of proficiency in their desired instrument. Although the
class is geared towards 8-12 graders, younger students are given the opportunity to register if granted
permission from the teacher.
• Because contemporary-style instruments are primarily used in worship teams today, this class is focused
on training students who are vocalists, pianists, guitarists, bassists and drummers.
• Students who do not claim vocals as their primary instrument will need to bring their own instrument
(bass, guitar, amp, etc.) to class on Friday with the exception of piano and percussion/drums which are
provided by CCC.
• On days where the band is leading worship in chapel, students will need to meet in the chapel from
9:00am - 9:25am to sound check and run through the songs. This will occur approximately once every four
weeks, and students will be informed of the required dates ahead of time.
• During the registration process, priority will be given to new students who wish to register for this class.
If there is available space after new students have registered, available slots will be offered to returning
students based on age and instrument.

Description: We will explore God’s creation using Apologia’s Zoology 3: Land Animals of the Sixth Day.
This book builds on the other two Apologia zoology books, but because our students are young, the class
will be taught assuming that none of the students have used those books. We will keep it simple and focus
on the days of creation and the amazing land animals God created on the sixth day. We will read from the
book in class, keep a notebook, and do some fun experiments. The teacher will provide a detailed syllabus
for each trimester so parents know what we will cover during class time. That will give you the option of
extending your study in this book at home (it’s a big book!); however, that is entirely optional and you do
not need to purchase your own copy of the book unless you choose to do so.
