Expert Fred Friedman will tell the story of their extraordinary strength, expertise, & teamwork in this session of our quarterly Counter-Narrative lecture series. Free. Sun. March 19, 1-3 pm A View into the Collection Indian Pueblo Cultural Center Enjoy an exclusive look into the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center’s vault & see works of art & artifacts rarely seen by the public. A View into the Collection is offered quarterly & is led by our Collections Specialist, who will share stories about items’ history & significance. March 22, 6-7:30 pm Frybread-Making Class Pueblo Harvest Cafe Who doesn’t love fresh, hot frybread? In this class every participant will follow the process from scratch, mixing dough, frying it to perfection, & trying the final product w/ sweet or savory toppings. Everyone will also leave w/ a 1-pound back of Blue Bird flour to keep on cooking at home. For reservations call 505-724-3510. $15 per person. Sat. March 25, 12-4 pm Meet the Artists – Pueblo Pottery: Traditions w/ a Twist Starbucks at Avanyu Plaza Join Shumakolowa Native Arts in the Starbucks at Avanyu Plaza for a meet-and-greet w/ all five of the Pueblo potters who handcrafted the clay “Starbucks cups” on permanent display there. In addition to getting your exclusive pottery-inspired travel mug signed by the artists, you can shop each potter’s original artwork in an impressive trunk show right in the cafe. Free. Sun. March 12, 9-11 am Seasons of Growth Gardening Class IPCC Community Teaching Garden Kick off the 2017 growing season at our brand-new Seasons of Growth classes in our very own Community Teaching Garden! Cultivate knowledge & grow skills on the second Sunday of every month, from planting heirloom seeds to harvesting crops come fall. Each session will offer a hands-on learning experience guided by IPCC Cultural Education staff & expert guests. $5. Tues. March 14, 2-4 pm & 6-8 pm Pueblo Book Club – How We Became Human IPCC Pueblo House Everyone is invited to join the Pueblo Book Club’s monthly explorations of literature related to the Pueblo experience. This month’s subject is a poetry collection that spans author Joy Harjo's twenty-eight- year career, beginning in 1973 when the takeover at Wounded Knee sparked a reenergizing of Indigenous cultures across the world through poetry & music. Exhibit Opening: “Long Ago...” &“Pueblo People & the Modern Environment”IPCC South Gallery

The IPCC is proud to unveil two new temporary exhibits at once! “Long Ago…” will guide visitors through the Pueblo people’s rich heritage of storytelling while “Pueblo People & the Modern Environment” will explore cutting-edge issues of energy and ecology as they relate to our evolving way of life. To mark the exhibits’ opening, the museum team will be on hand to talk about their work from 11 am to 12 pm. Free with museum admission.

Celebrate nature this Earth Day by getting involved in our Resilience Garden! Volunteers will come together to spruce up the garden by transplanting seedlings, installing new signs, and tidying up after the long winter. The IPCC Cultural Education team will also be on hand to talk about the history of Pueblo agriculture while serving up delicious “pre-contact” granola. Free.

April 30, 9 am - 5 pm38th Annual American Indian WeekIndian Pueblo Cultural Center The IPCC has something for everyone during American Indian Week: traditional Native dances several times each day, workshops led by Native art experts each afternoon, daily guided tours of our museum exhibits and murals, and artists o�ering authentic handcrafted work for sale. The Pueblo Harvest Cafe will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner as usual, as well as host a special concession window in the courtyard! Free with museum admission.

Our Resilience Garden’s new hands-on learning series continues this month with an exploration of the Pueblo people’s traditional farming methods, from wa�e gardens to mounds and modern rows. Participants will work the soil to form wa�es and a �ooding area, as well as start seedlings in anticipation of warmer weather. While the class is limited to ten participants, everyone is invited to join in an hour of volunteering afterward from 11 am to 12 pm! Suggested Donation: $5.
