Wherever you are on life’s journey

you are welcome here

It’s Summer! Time to unwind, relax into the warmth, and appreciate a

season of growth.

Hahaha! Even as I write this, I laugh because every summer I think that’s

going to happen.

Every June, I think the longer days will mean more time to simply enjoy life. Experi-

ence has taught me that’s only true in theory, because our beloved United Church of

Christ seizes these long summer days for Wider Church Events! June keeps me so

busy that I nearly forget my best intentions to unwind, relax, and appreciate growth.

So maybe this year I have to refocus on appreciating this season for what it is instead

of what it’s not. As busy as they keep me, I LOVE wider church events. I love that

Placerville Camp is in full swing. I get SO excited about our annual Vacation Bible

School. I treasure our SD Conference UCC annual meeting (this year celebrating in

Omaha with Iowa and Nebraska). I am truly energized by my Next Generation Lead-

ership Initiative gathering at General Synod (this year in Milwaukee).

These gatherings connect me to our wider faith family, all equally committed to

broadening God’s beloved community here on earth. No, I don’t get to unwind, but I

do become filled with Spirit for creative and life-giving ministries. And THAT is

something I will always cherish.

It’s my true desire that our church’s participation in these wider church events (we

have several campers heading to Placerville, many hands hard at work for VBS, 5 of

us heading to Omaha, and I will be representing us all at Synod!) offers space for a

recommitment to our mission. To BE THE CHURCH, wherever we are, with what-

ever particular gifts we’ve been given, in the capacity our Pierre community needs.

Maybe these long summer days can provide all this AND enough moments to realize

that what we offer is enough, because God is everywhere growing goodness and love.

Amen!!

We will be holding a New Member Sunday on July 14, 2019.

We welcome anyone who is interested in becoming a member

to speak with me during the months of June and July, contact

me at 605-203-1527.

It’s a delight to add to this church family, and becoming an of-

ficial member is a great opportunity to engage in the life of this

congregation more fully, but it is certainly NOT expected.

No matter where you find yourself on life’s journey, you’re

ALWAYS welcome here.

Love Fund Update

Wow! I am blown away by your generosity to our love fund during the April ONE THING campaign! Thank you!

Together we added close to $500 dollars into our quickly depleting reserve. In addition to supplementing our fund,

we’ve decided to make some changes to ensure this outreach program is sustainable long-term, while we also advance

our church mission more clearly:

Going forward, we will be offering assistance ONLY to individuals who come to us because of a connection/

referral from a congregant.

Our executive council affirms this decision with our primary mission in mind: To welcome and serve all who are

seeking a deeper understanding of their faith, and to give witness to the life-changing power of Jesus Christ. While

we value offering financial assistance to people in need, we see that sustainable support is best achieved through

ongoing relationships of mutual care. It is for this reason that we have decided to prioritize financial assistance to

individuals who connect with Pastor Emily through a member or friend of this church. WE NEED YOU to identify

and invite people you know who may be in need, and send along a request to Pastor Emily! Even better, invite your

neighbor in need to meet with you and Pastor Emily together!

We honor the difficulty many people face in making ends meet, which is why we also financially support our Pierre

Area Referral Service. They are equipped to assess greatest need better than we are as a church, and Pastor Emily will

continue working with Director Corwin Jones to make sure our love fund is accessible to community members in

times of real crisis. THANK YOU for We honor the difficulty many people face in making helping build a stronger,

more equitable faith community focused on relationships of mutual care!

A project called the One Thing was

launched in April by confirmand

Jack Back and his mentor,

Dorinda Daniel. Each month, those

in the congregation are asked to

bring One Thing that will in turn,

be donated to a nonprofit organi-

zation. More than $400 was do-

shampoo and conditioner were

donated to Missouri Shores Do-

The One Thing for June is one bot-
