Scratchboard Texture Project
Ms. Steinmetz
Texture in Art
• The tactile quality of the surface of a work of art.
• The feel, appearance, or consistency of a surface or a substance.
Why is it so important in art? • Appeals to our sense of touch• It can quickly evoke memories and emotions. – You don’t need to touch a baby’s skin to know its
silky smooth and soft.
How many everyday examples of textures can you think of?
About Scratchboard• Scratchboard is a
technique where the artist scratches away ink to reveal a color underneath.
• Scratchboard forces the artist to think in reverse to pull the image from the surface.
