Ecosystem – a group of organisms living together and their environment.

What makes up an ecosystem? There are 2 things that make up an

ecosystem which are biotic and abiotic.

Biotic = all living things in an ecosystem, e.g., plants, animals, bacteria

Abiotic = all non-living things in an ecosystem, e.g., rocks, weather, temperature

Biotic & Abiotic

Biotic Frog, Tree, Grass, Fish, Mosquito,

Snail, Bird, Lilly pad, Bacteria , Weeds,

Abiotic Oxygen, Soil , Light, Rock, Pollution,

Temperature, Glass, Sand, Plastic, Pipe

What is in each ecosystem? The study of all living things would be a

huge task so we break things down into smaller pieces

Species

Species – a group of organisms so similar to one another that they can breed and produce fertile offspring. e.g., one single mosquito

Population

Population – a group of individuals that belong to the same species and live in the same area. e.g., all the crows in an area

Community

Community – A group of several populations living in a defined area. e.g., all the frogs ducks, water lilies
