1.2 : SCIENCE LABORATORY
A room or a building in
which scientific
investigations are
carried out. It is the
place where we study
science.

Accidents happen
everywhere including
Science Lab. So how do
we prevent accidents
from happening?

1. To avoid accidents to occur
from mishandling certain
materials & apparatus.
2. To obtain the correct results
of the experiments.

1. Close the air hole by turning the
collar.
2. Bring a lighted match to the top of
the barrel.
3. Turn on the gas slowly.
4. Adjust the collar until a steady
blue flame is obtained.
5. To obtain smaller flame, close the
air-hole a little or reduce the gas
flow and vice versa.

Bunsen burner produces 2 types of flame :-
Luminous Flame Non-Luminous Flame
Yellow colour
Air-hole
is closed
A lot of soot
Incomplete
burning
Blue colour

Much more
HOTTER !!
Some chemicals in the lab are harmful to our body.
Thus, hazard symbols are used to show nature of the
substances. These symbols can be found on the labels
of the chemical bottles / containers.
