SCIENCE 5 *.CELL—basic unit of life Types of cells 1.prokaryotic cells - do not contain nuclei 2.eukaryotic cells - contain nuclei and many specialized structures called organelles *prokaryotes—bacteria that have prokaryotic cells *eukaryotes--- all plants ,animals and fungi have eukaryotic cells *TISSUES-- cells of the same kind that perform specific role or activity Different kinds of tissues 1. Connective tissues—support and hold your body parts together such as bones and muscles *tendons- join muscles to bines *ligaments-connect bones to other bones 2.Muscles tissues- muscles comprise a big group of tissues all over your body *skeletal muscles—muscles enable your body parts such as your arms and legs to move *cardiac muscles- the wall of heart ,it contract involuntarily and regularly without getting tired *Smooth muscles—they line your stomach and other internal organs of your body 3. SCIENCE 5*.CELL—basic unit of lifeTypes of cells 1.prokaryotic cells- do not contain nuclei 2.eukaryotic cells- contain nuclei and many specialized structures called organelles *prokaryotes—bacteria that have prokaryotic cells *eukaryotes--- all plants ,animals and fungi have eukaryotic cells

*TISSUES-- cells of the same kind that perform specific role or activity

Different kinds of tissues1. Connective tissues—support and hold your body parts together such as bones and muscles *tendons- join muscles to bines *ligaments-connect bones to other bones

2.Muscles tissues- muscles comprise a big group of tissues all over your body *skeletal muscles—muscles enable your body parts such as your arms and legs to move *cardiac muscles- the wall of heart ,it contract involuntarily and regularly without getting tired *Smooth muscles—they line your stomach and other internal organs of your body

3. Epithelial tissues— a layer of skin tissues that protect our body ,also protect our vital organs and glands.

4. Nerve tissues—our brain and spinal cord are made up of nerve tissues ,it help us to become aware of the conditions in our environment, such as temperatures of objects.

*ORGANS---group of similar tissues that performs similar functions. Examples’’heart, stomach, eyes, and intestines

*ORGAN SYSTEMS—organs that work together to perform certain task1.Integumentary System—includes the hair, skin and nails. Skin---protect the underlying tissues in our body. Hair and nail---accessory organ that cover skin ant the tissues under it.

2.Muscular system –ours made up of about 620 different muscles, enable to perform many activities such as jumping, sitting, and running.Give shape and form to our body

Page 2: SCIENCE 5

3.Skeletal System—about 206 bones in our body.different bones that provide support to our body Rib cage---protects internal organs such as heart, kidneys, liver and lungs Skull--- protect brain, eyes, and nasal and oral cavities

4.Digestive System--- responsible for processing the nutrients that your body needs.Includes the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small and large intestine, rectum and anus.

The nutrients comes from the food we eat.

5.Circulatory System---Responsible For The Distribution Of Nutrients And Oxygen To The Different Parts Of The Body.

It includes the heart, blood, and blood vessels.

6.Respiratory system-- Responsible for taking oxygen into the body and giving off carbon dioxide.

7.Immune System- made up of white blood cell and other cells such as phagocytes. Responsible for keeping our body healthy and free from diseases.

8.Urinary System--- includes the kidneys, urinary bladder, erethra, and ereter. It filters the blood and removes liquid wastes from the body in the form of

urine. It regulates water balance in the body

9.Reproductive System- Responsible for the continuous perpetuation of life , not only human being but of other animals as well.

*Testis- male reproductive organ *Ovary- female reproductive organ

10.Endocrine System – include the thyroid gland, parathyroid gland, pituitary gland, gonads (testes and ovaries),pancreas ,and adrenal glands.

They produce and release chemical substances called hormones.

11.Nervous system- includes the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. Responsible for interpreting the information gathered by your different

senses.

12.Sense Organ- include your eyes, nose, tongue, ears and skin. Responsible for senses. Help to become aware of the things around you
