Who are they and what do they do?
Come along to the P&F ‘Meet and Greet—Welcome
Night’ and find out more about the P&F and all the
great things they do to make MPS a better school.
A new initiative of the P&F this year is the introduction
of ‘parent reps’ for each class to assist with
communication and organisation of P&F-related
activities for each class. Complete the return slip on
the flyer attached to this newsletter if you are
interested in becoming a ‘class rep’.
I look forward to seeing many of you at the ‘Meet and

COUNSELLING SERVICE AT MPS
Dear Parents,
Counselling is available to students this semester
through a placement program with Monash University,
where I am completing a final year Masters of Coun-
selling student. I will be at Mornington Primary School
3 days per week and would like to involve parents or
guardians by meeting with you before beginning coun-
selling, if possible. Interactions with families and stu-
dents are treated as confidential, or on need to know
basis with school support services.
Any issues you may be concerned about can be con-
sidered. Some of these may include self-esteem,
stress, fear, anxiety, sadness, depression, anger,
loss, grief and emotional or behavioural difficulty, or
difficulties coping with change.
I work with positive regard for all clients and their
families and practice acceptance of all lifestyle and
religious choices. You can email me at
[email protected] with any questions you
may have.
Referrals for counselling may be made by teachers
or parents. Consent will be requested from parents
before group or individual sessions commence. If for
any reason you do not wish me to speak with your
child, please advise the office.

school community). We need parents from every
class to offer their time, expertise and enthusiasm.
Being part of our P&F is easy – you can do as little
or as much as you are able.
We look forward to meeting you all next Tuesday

HISTORY DETECTIVES AT MPS!
Ever wondered what things were like in the past? Like
school for instance. What was it like? Was it different
from today?
Last year, some of our senior students participated in
a joint project between three Mornington Peninsula
Schools, the Mornington Shire, local Historical
Societies and history company “Way Back When”.
The aim of the project was for students to learn how
to conduct an oral history interview as a way of
preserving and broadcasting history. Thirty of our
students shared in an oral history workshop where
they learnt about what history detectives do and how
they might go about their work. Two students were
then selected to interview past student Ray Garlick
about his recollections of life at Mornington Primary
School around 60 years ago. Indi Carey and Ella
Thompson were very curious to find out how different
school was and spent time thinking about and writing
out questions before the interview. This interview has
now formed part of a film made about the history of
Mornington, Hastings and Rye Primary Schools. If you
would like to see a trailer of this film, please visit
http://www.mornpen.vic.gov.au/Activities/Arts-Culture/

We hope to be able to bring you the whole film soon.
