The Varley Art Gallery offers fun, educational and enriching summer camps to engage your child’s imagination! Children ages 5-13 will have the opportunity to express how they see the world around them through gallery visits and a variety of art-making activities, using a variety of techniques and media.

The experienced and energetic Summer Camp team will lead thoughtfully designed half and full day programs that encourage creative play and individual expression.

Through playing, campers will explore unexpected techniques, concepts, and paint applications. Campers will learn how to make physically manipulated objects appear to move on their own, in addition to working as a team to develop a story for a short animation film that they will work on collaboratively. Varley In Unionville: Ages 7-12 | Before care only | Half-day MFred Varley’s legacy is alive and well in historic Unionville. Campers will get a chance to walk in his footsteps, working outdoors en plein air, and in the gardens of the McKay House where he lived. As one of the finest portrait artists in Canada and one of the founders of the Group of Seven, be inspired to create both self portraits and portraits of each other. Young Set Designers: Ages 9-13 | B/A care available | Full-dayCampers will bring a story to life at the end of the week in a presentation to friends and family. In this camp, kids work on creating sets, props, costumes from scratch and use a variety of media to design posters, tickets and promotional material. The camp is designed to promote conceptual thinking, teamwork and communication, and is a great introduction to design and production. Campers will also have the opportunity to work with a guest theatre professional on the performative elements of the presentation, which will be inspired by the spirit of the Pan Am Games!
