    COURSE INFORMATION:

    Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

    Cogniive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an

    empirically based psychological reamen or a

    variey o psychological problems (e.g. depression

    and anxiey). The Diploma in Cogniive Behavioural

    Therapy a Ciy College aims o inroduce sudens

    o he heoreical underpinnings o CBT and o he

    skills required or an in-deph knowledge o he

    pracice o his herapeuic approach. CBT seeks

    o examine and challenge cliens wih he manner

    in which heir houghs, belies and atiudes o

    various evens and circumsances negaively aec

    heir mood and behaviour.

    Whils open o he general public, we srongly

    encourage he course or hose working in a variey

    o roles where conac wih hose experiencing

    psychological problems may be a eaure, e.g.

    psychoherapis, medical docors, nurses, social

    been approved or CPD credis or members o he

    Psychological Sociey o Ireland.

    Diploma in Criminology and C riminal Psychology

    The purpose o his programme is o equip

    learners wih a basic undersanding o he elds

    o Criminology (he scienic sudy o crime)

    and Criminal Psychology rom a hisorical,

    conemporary and progressive perspecive. In

    addiion, undamenal psychological conceps will

    be considered, including Personaliy Disorders,

    Learning Theory and Social Psychology. These will

    be relaed o he various heories o crime and

    oending. A he end o he course, learners will

    have a deailed undersanding o he psychology

    and naure o criminal conduc. This course has been

    approved or CPD credis or members o he PSI.

    Diploma in Psychology

    The Diploma in Psychology a Ciy Colleges aims

    o inroduce sudens o he main opics oen

    augh on modern psychology courses. These opics

    include developmenal and liespan psychology,

    cogniive psychology, social psychology, biological

    basis o behaviour, personaliy heory and individual

    dierences, abnormal psychology, research design

    and mehods, and psychological herapies.

    Sudens will also gain experience o research

    hrough a projec o be compleed wihin one monh

    o compleion o lecures. The ocus o he Diploma

    is heoreical alhough discussion and pracical

    examples o relevance will be discussed hroughou.

    Graduaes will possess a broad, basic undersanding

    o modern psychology ollowing compleion o he

    Diploma. They may use such learning o decide i

    urher sudies in psychology would be o ineres o

    hem. Alernaively, sudens may simply complee

    he Diploma ou o ineres regarding he manner

    in which modern psychology aims o invesigae

    and beter undersand he human mind and

    behaviour. Proessionals in relaed disciplines such

    as counselling, ec, may also be eligible o consider

    compleion o he course or CPD (coninuing

    proessional developmen) purposes. However,

    he Diploma in Psychology does no carry PSI CPD

    credis, since pracicing, regisered psychologiss

    would have already covered his maerial as par o

    heir primary degree in psychology.

    All our diploma programmes are awarded by City Colleges.

    In addition, three o the our (Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural

    Therapy, Diploma in Counselling Psychology and the Diploma

    in Criminology and Criminal Psychology) are recognized by

    the Psychological Society o Ireland (PSI) or the purposes o

    continuing proessional development (CPD) credits or its members.

    This means that any practicing registered psychologist, havingcompleted one o these three courses, is entitled to have the course

    counted towards CPD credits which must be accumulated over

    three-year CPD cycles.
