From the Principal’s desk
Ginnagay and welcome to week 10.
It was great to see so many happy faces return to school yesterday. Thank you to our parents and students who
ensured that their loaned devices came back to school ready for this week. It was also pleasing to see the students
bring back their learning from home packs as well. If there are still any of these items at home, please return them
to school this week. This has been a difficult time for many parents and families, and we want to extend support to
everyone. If you need to discuss any concerns or issues, please do not hesitate to contact the school. Our kids often
take on more worry than they need to, and we will be focusing on well-being this week. We want school to be that
place where our students have the opportunity to relax and interact with their peers and forget some of their worries
for a little while. Please talk to your child’s classroom teacher, through either email or a phone call to the school, if
you have concerns.
It was also fantastic to have our canteen open again. Thank you to our mums who run this resource for our kids, staff
and families.
Please remember that drop off and pick up must continue from the front of the school. Parents are asked not to
enter the school unless a pre-arranged meeting has been organised and masks must be worn on the school grounds,
at all times.
Term 4 starts with all students returning on Tuesday 5th October. Please be aware we will start swimming for sport
the first Friday as well. Please ensure that students bring swimmers, rash shirt, towel, and goggles are optional, every
Friday. The school is covering the costs for swimming for the term, so there is no need for money to be sent to school.
We will also support our parents by covering the cost of the Intensive Swimming program later in the term. We hope
this assists all our parents in some small way. We want every student in our school prepared for the upcoming
summer season and swimming.
NAPLAN results were sent home with students yesterday. We would like to recognise the efforts of every student
and teacher with the fact that we have no students in the bottom two bands of year 3 or 5 NAPLAN in both Literacy

and Numeracy. This is a wonderful achievement and lets us know that students are moving in the right direction.
Keep working hard.
Mrs Daniel and Mr Hugo have also been working with a federal government initiative to further develop phonics
skills in the early years. We are one of 100 schools selected across Australia to be part of this opportunity and know
that our students will benefit from this initiative. We will keep you posted on some of the wonderful strategies that
come out of this opportunity.
Yaari Yaaraang.

What’s happening in 5/6
Over the last few weeks, students have faced the challenge of working from home either online or offline. Some
students worked on their learning packs at school. It has been nothing short of amazing to see the students grow in
independence and resilience. The change in format to the online and offline packs ensured students were more
engaged and motivated to complete their daily learning activities. It was great to have a few class calls through the
week. These were used as a check-in activity and also as an opportunity for all of us to catch up with one another
and on some days, just have a laugh. Thank you Year 5/6.

What are your family values?
Values will differ from person-to-person, and families too. What makes sense to one, might not make sense to another.
What's important to remember however, is that what ever your beliefs and values are, you'll likely impart them onto
your child/children too.
Determining, defining, discussing and then role modelling your own family values can help your children make good
decisions and healthy choices.
Your Top Tips to Set Family Values
1. Begin with yourself. Write your own values down. If you live with your partner, have them write theirs down too,
compare the similiarities and differences.
2. Talk to your children about the values you think are important. Some examples include kindness, trust, honesty,
respect. Use these words regularly with your children.
3. Put these values into action yourself. This is the most powerful way to teach your children your family values.
I told my boss, "Sorry I'm late, I was having computer issues..."
Boss: Hard drive?
Me: No, the commute was fine, it's my laptop.
