RELIEVING PRINCIPAL’S REPORT K-6 TRANSITION TO 2014 PROGRAM We had the first of our transition days today and this will
continue tomorrow from after recess until the end of the
day. Students have been put into new groupings and will move around 3 or 4 teachers throughout the two days. These days have been planned to provide students with the experience of visiting new rooms, seeing new faces and learning a little more about what their learning environment will be like in 2014. Please make time to discuss the experience with your
child and speak to your child’s teacher if there are any significant concerns.
NAIDOC CUP WWPS's senior mixed touch side will be competing in the
NAIDOC Carnival finals this Friday at Jubilee Park. The semi-final is scheduled for 12:00pm and the Grand Final is scheduled for 1:15. Please feel free to come and support our team!
STAGE 3 EXCURSION Our Stage 3 students and teachers are eagerly anticipating their excursion to Canberra next week. I am sure that they will all have an enjoyable time as well as learning much about our nation’s capital and our government system. Please make sure that you read all
notes sent home carefully to help you in your planning and packing. Any outstanding money must be paid
before next Wednesday. Thank you to Mrs McKenzie, Mr Burgess, Mr Dorrell and Miss Evans for your efforts in organising this excursion and for giving up your time at home to accompany our students. This is a big commitment from our staff and we are most
appreciative.

Capacity:
CRITICAL THINKING
This involves the ability to look for good reasons and sound
evidence to make fair decisions.
When you use this learning muscle, you…
Make informed decisions based on evidence available.
Look at the pros and cons.
Use knowledge to solve problems.
Compare and contrast different ideas.
Evaluate the ideas of myself and others to form a conclu-
sion.
Consider more than one point of view.
Critically analyse the facts.
LANGUAGE TO ENCOURAGE
ABSORPTION
I open my thinking to consider the viewpoints of others.
Stop and think about this.
What is important here.
What information can I get rid of?
What information do I keep?
What do I know about this to help me decide? Does that sound right?
Have I got all the information? Is this too good to be true?
Is my information from a reliable source?
Have I thought about all the possibilities?
Am I getting a good/uneasy feeling about this?
HOW CAN YOU HELP AT HOME?
Discuss with your child how they will spend their pocket
money/savings. Ask lots of open ended questions (eg The answer is 12, what is
the question?). Allow your child to give more than one answer and explain
how they got there. Involve your child in appropriate family decision making.
