Love in Action Last Monday at devotion, the Year 2 students received God’s
special book – the Bible - that was generously donated by the St
John’s Lutheran congregation. The Bible is God’s written record of
his work through the ages. We know how to live, make decisions
and worship thanks to the wisdom contained in God’s special
book. As we meditate and consider its truth, our spirits and souls
find nourishment. We become established and enriched in every
experience of life by living according to God’s perspective. The
Bible is a book for everyone. Thank you to the congregation
members who came along to spend some time sharing with the
Year 2 students.
Weekly Well-being Gratitude!
The simple power of gratitude can change your day. One thing I
always talk to our students about is that even on our darkest days,
we can always find something to be grateful for and something
positive. Gratitude can help us see the blessings that we have
around us. Even through hardships and tragedies, there are
always miracles and blessings to be recognised. Next time you find
yourself in a situation that has you lost, upset or even fearful…
take a moment to think about what it is you are thankful for. You
may be surprised at the impact it can have. Doing this daily
strengthens our minds to find those positives more naturally and
easily, and the flow-on effect is inspiring. I challenge you to think
about 3 things you are grateful for this week and share your ideas
with your family. Bethany Kotzur

Code of Conduct for School Students Travelling on Buses
Queensland Transport, in consultation with bus operators, school organisations and parent groups, has developed
a Code of Conduct to ensure that all students know that standards of behaviour are expected of them when
travelling on buses. The Code of Conduct applies to all students travelling on buses throughout Queensland.
Inappropriate behaviour by a student at a bus interchange may also be regarded as a breach of the Code of
Conduct.
We have summarised some important points below, however, the full and current code of conduct can be accessed
on the following link Bus Travel Code of Conduct.
Students’ Responsibilities
To act safely and responsibly by:
• following driver instructions.
• following the bus rules and the Code.
• respecting self and others.
• respecting own property and the property of others.
• communicating respectfully with others.
• accepting consequences for bus misconduct.
Students’ Expected Behaviours
• Wait at the bus stop in an orderly manner.
• Respect other people and their property.
• Behave in a way that ensures a safe bus journey for all passengers by:
- following bus rules.
- staying in the right place - not moving seats while the bus is moving.
- behaving in a calm, non-aggressive way - quiet talking – not yelling.
- keeping hands and feet to self.
- speaking politely. - storing all objects safely.
• Get off the bus in an orderly manner.
• Follow the driver’s safety instructions. As part of the process following a breach of the Code of Conduct, students may be refused travel for a temporary period or, in some cases, permanently.

Parental Photography at School Events
We welcome the taking of photographs and video for personal/family use at St John’s Lutheran School events,
and understand that most people taking photographs and images of their own children at these events are doing
so for acceptable reasons, using appropriate methods.
However, we respectfully ask that you seek permission from parents/guardians if you wish to share images of
other students participating in these activities.

Live it! Youth Group - Live it! was a little hectic last Friday night... The theme was Newspapers! We played the
Floor is Lava!, newspaper fashion, towers and snowball fight! Heaps of teamwork, lots of mess, and loads of fun!
Primary Snippets Weekly Wellbeing - Mrs Muller has been focusing on self- regulation
skills and goal setting during her weekly wellbeing lessons. Year 4
have created a beautiful ‘Tree of Mastery’, creating and writing goals
for themselves on the leaves. Some of these goals include:
* Waking up earlier for school
* Practising my footy skills
* Being kinder to my siblings
* Trying harder with my homework
What a beautiful piece of art. Well done, Year 4!

Primary Snippets (Cont.) Project Club - ‘Project Club’ is a relatively new program at our school involving students from Years 3 - 6
working in groups to apply their learning to real-life problems.
Monday’s team have been working as ‘designers’, developing images and short texts to revamp the junior toilet
blocks. Their intention is to transform our school toilet blocks into positive, nurturing spaces. This week, our
‘designers’ applied their mathematical skills to measure and record the dimensions of the walls and other large
areas in the junior toilets. They then carefully considered imagery and quotes to suit each space.
Tuesday’s team are the ‘architects’. This group is exploring how and where St John’s can fit Years 10, 11 and
12, should our school eventually expand. They have explored a range of real-life contemporary school designs
from around the world and have been recording stand-out ideas for our school. In recent weeks, our architects
discovered the minimum sizes (in square metres) required for specific classrooms. They then set about debating
how many extra rooms would actually be required, and how these would fit into our school. Their amazing ideas
currently include using shipping containers, transforming rooftops into usable spaces, incorporating balconies
and ‘hang-out’ zones for senior students, as well as considering multi-use spaces. Their ideas will be bought to
life in the form of technical drawings (to scale) and 3D models.
Wednesday’s team are our ‘scientists’. This group is becoming experts in more sustainable or renewable energy
practices, which could be implemented at St John’s. Our highly collaborative scientists are delving into a range
of potential strategies. These include ensuring that the most energy-efficient light bulbs are used in all places
within the school, taking advantage of our natural sunlight by installing sunroofs, and building a biogas system.
In recent weeks, our scientists have realised they would benefit from speaking with some real-life experts. We
are hoping their questions can be answered during a Q&A with industry professionals this week.
All groups are taking on roles and acting as real professionals do. In the coming weeks, they will finalise their
research, collate their data and ideas, and present these formally to Mrs. BP. Listening to the students’
conversations as they nut out solutions and discuss options has been a real joy! Chloe Rickard

Secondary Snippets APEX Debating - Round Two of debating was held at Kingaroy State
High last Wednesday. It was a hectic but successful night. We had last-
minute replacements to make and a couple of late arrivals, but at the
end of the night, we all came out on top. I was impressed with the
improvement made by many of the students and this all came down to
thorough preparation. The resilience demonstrated by some students
was inspirational - bouncing back after leaving palm cards at home;
arriving late but jumping straight into the debate; and combating nerves
to power through their speech. We have such brave students who are
testing their limits and developing confidence to overcome anything life
throws at them.
A huge shout out to Isolde Norris and Milla Brown for stepping in to cover students who were unwell. Both these
teams came away with wins - so hopefully these girls will continue to debate for St John’s. Congratulations to
SJLS Vipers: Nyaon Twang, Isolde Norris and Casey Springhall, and also SJLS Lions: Milla Brown, Amelia
Lonsdale and Mia Shailer, for attaining their first win in the APEX competition. An honourable mention must go
to Breana Freeman for an excellent rebuttal against Casey Springhall - I really enjoyed that!
