Below are photos of each value mascot:
P&C Day WA
Last Friday, 26th July, was the inaugural P&C Day. On behalf of the staff at Kensington
Primary School, I wish to acknowledge the wonderful work our P&C does for the betterment
of our school and for our students. The P&C is a wonderful way to be actively involved in
the community and to get to know other members of this lovely community, while
contributing to the life of the school and improving outcomes for all children who attend
here.
Thank you to our fantastic P&C. Last year the P&C raised over $25,000 for this year’s wish
list (including recurring expenses) of items for the school. This entailed items such as the
upcoming kindy upgrades, blinds for the music room, comprehension & reading resources, a
junior playground swing (to be installed this term), the Consent 2 Go software, library
resources and the much feted Growth Mindset quotes in the senior toilets (with more to come
in the junior toilets).
The P&C has been busy this year, fundraising for next year’s wish list too. The Colour Run
was a great success, as was the cake stall and sausage sizzle during the federal election, to
name a couple of events. Please support our active P&C by booking in to attend the
upcoming Old Skool Quiz Night at the South Perth Community Hall on 24th August. We also
thank and acknowledge the class reps initiative of the P&C, helping us all stay connected and
updated.
P&C meetings are held on Tuesdays of Week 2 and Week 8 of each term, 7.30pm in the
staffroom. Come along and be part of this active and supportive group.
NAIDOC Day
NAIDOC Day is always in the school holidays, so we celebrate it either before the holidays
or, usually, after the holidays. We recognised this day last Friday by starting the day with a
special morning assembly where we unveiled a triptych of canvases with Noongar symbols
on leaves. This was produced by our students in art classes with Mrs Carpenter and Mrs
Bennett. We thank both teachers for the extra hours they put in to mounting and presenting
all the children’s work together. We also, for the first time, raised the Aboriginal flag next to
our Australian flag in the amphitheatre. The flag poles were funded by John McGrath, MLA,
Member for South Perth.
Classes then spent the day learning about Aboriginal histories and cultures. We have further
plans to put up welcome signs etc. in Japanese and Noongar to acknowledge their importance
in our community. The six Noongar seasons will also be represented on the totem poles
along Fourth Ave.
Science Week
Science Week will take place in Week 4 (12-16 August). During the week, an Artist in
Residence, author and scientist, Cristy Burne, will be working with all classes in the
school. If you wish to find out more about Cristy, then please visit
http://www.cristyburne.com.
Book Week
Book Week will be occurring in Week 5 (15-19 August). The theme for Book Week this
year is “Reading is my Secret Power”. There will be a dress up day on Tuesday 20 August
where students are encouraged to dress up as either a character from a book or a
superhero. A gold coin donation is not required for this event. A Book Fair (19-21 August)
will also be run in the library to coincide with Book Week.
Head Lice
There have been a number of reports of head lice in various classrooms. Please examine your
child’s hair for signs of head lice by following the attached advice from the Department of
Health. Remember that head lice are only about 2-4mm long and are often hard to see. They
will rapidly run away when the hair is parted to search for them, so a ‘dry’ hair check is not
reliable. Applying hair conditioner to the dry hair slows the head lice down so they can be
trapped and removed by combing with a metal nit comb. Please take the time to check your
child/children’s hair for lice.
Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data
on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify
information already available in the school about supports provided to students with
disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act
1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD
guidelines(2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
year of schooling
category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching
practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.
This information assists schools to:
formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability
in schools
consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to
improve educational outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan
more broadly for the support of students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in
any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way
that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all
students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection,
storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please
refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-
policy).
Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD
Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).
If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.

DUCKs Piesse Brook Bush Walk
Sunday 25 August 2 pm
Join us for a bush walk in the Perth Hills on Sunday 25 August and clear the mind after the
Old Skool Quiz night!
The 2017 edition was a hit with kids and parents alike, with sunny skies and crystal clear
water at Rocky Pool, so fingers crossed the weather is kind again.
We’ll follow a wide, undulating trail along Piesse Brook to Rocky Pool. Returning, there’ll
be the option of the Bibbulman Track for those keen to tackle some steeper single trail with
views over the valley.
Distance will be 3.5 or 5 km, easily manageable by most kids. We’ll mark the route
beforehand with flour so it’s easy to follow.
There will be hotdogs at the finish, $10/family, eat until they’re gone…
Please park considerately along Schipp Road, near the junction with Hummerston Road,
Kalamunda. If possible, share transport as parking is limited and be ready to walk at 2 pm.

RSVP to Justin ([email protected] or 0407 383 122) so we have an idea of numbers for
hotdogs.
P & C Book Fair
As part of Book Week celebrations, the P & C are organising a Book Fair again this year to
help the library stock up on new books.
The Book Fair is on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 19, 20 and 21 August and will be
open before and after school in the library. Hundreds of fiction and non-fiction titles will be
supplied by Child Education Services and each book sold will earn a credit for the library to
spend on more books. The more books we sell, the more books the library gets!
If you or your child would like to donate a book to the library, they are welcome to make a
selection during the Book Fair. All books donated during the Book Fair will have an
acknowledgement label recognising the donor at the front of the book. Your child will then
have the option to be the first student to borrow the book, if they wish.
As always, to make these events a success, some volunteer help is required. If you think you
have what it takes to help collect money at our Book Fair for 1 or 2 sessions, please contact
me at [email protected].
