The Danish A-label – your guarantee for a pure product

When you choose a product that carries the Danish A-label, you get a product that is safe to use – even for young children.

The A-label is your guarantee that the product does not contain hormone- disrupting substances, heavy metals or allergenic substances above the triviality limit.

The products contain neither perfumes nor fragrances.

CE certificationAll hobby products that have play value for children under the age of 14 must be CE-certified. An A-label and CE certification are two different things. In order to get CE certification, requirements must be met concerning, among other things, various forms of documentation during the production process. Requirements are also posed on testing for mechanical-physical properties, inflammability and selected chemical substances (EN71-1, 2, 3). CE-certified products must not contain substances that are hazardous to health, but the requirements are not as stringent as those mentioned above. In order to achieve A-label certification, a product must comply with requirements about the ingredients that are so stringent that they meet the chemical section of the Danish legislation about toys.

The Danish A-label not only complies with legislation, it goes one step further to comply with the following stringent requirements:

• Theproductdoesnotcontainhormone-disruptingsubstances(incompliancewithEUstipulations).

• Butylparabenandpropylparabenmustnotbeusedintheproduct.

• Noperfumesorfragrancesmaybeaddedtotheproduct.

• Theproductmustcomplywithrequirementsaboutthelowestpossiblelevelofheavymetal emission.

• Allergenicsubstancesmustonlyoccurinamountsthatarebelowthetrivialitylevel.

• Substancesthatarecarcinogenic,mutagenicortoxictoreproduction(CMR)mustonlyoccurinamounts that are below the triviality level.

• Onlyaspecificgroupofapprovedpreservativesmaybeused.

• Noproductsmaycontainhazardoussubstancesthatarerequiredtobementionedinthesafetydatasheet.

• Asafetydatasheetmustbeelaboratedforeachproduct.

Pure colours for the benefit of the environment and health

Schjerning Farver combines the best raw materials and state-of-the-art technology to produce the purest colours. We always choose the purest raw materials and thereby exclude or minimise substances that have undesirable health or environmental effects.

The colours are almost all A-labelled*, which is a voluntary Danish standard that poses even more stringent requirements on the purity of the contents than those posed by legislation.

Furthermore, one of our colour series carries the Nordic eco-label, The Swan, which poses requirements on packaging, production and environmental certification in addition to extensive requirements on chemical substances. We only use European suppliers who are known to protect the environment and provide reliable

information about the contents of their products. Independent inspection guarantees that the raw materials comply with the requirements posed by the A-label.

ISO 14001Schjerning Farver has held the ISO 14001 environ- mental certification since 1998. This documents our high standard and ensures an eco-friendly production.

The Environmental Product Award from the EUIn 2004, Schjerning Farver received the Product and Services Award for Sustainable Development from the EU.

We endeavour to live up to the award and continuously develop new, eco-friendly hobby colours and glue that children and adults can use without hesitation.

The structure pastes are available in various degrees of fineness and are used for building up layers.

Art Medium is a very strong adhesive glue/lacquer with a large variety of applications. Art Medium is brilliant and water resistant after drying.

Art Medium can be mixed with school colours, e.g. Praxis, and the colour will then appear more brilliant.

Art Medium can be used as glue for papier mâché, for collages and decoupage (no napkins). It is also ideal as glue for small objects such as shells, pearls and other effects, e.g. on canvas.

Furthermore, Art Medium can be used to transfer coloured paper photos or black and white photos from ordinary copier to different objects such as canvas, wooden blocks, stones etc.
