As a new season is approaching, many of us start making various

changes in our routines. Preparing our skin for the new season is essential in order to be able to look our best at any given moment. Although subtle, a few changes in our skin care rituals can make a great difference in the way our skin looks, so learn to prepare your skin for the spring season in a few easy steps. As seasonal changes start to emerge, our skin is faced with various different chal-lenges.

Moisturizing is by far the most important aspect we should take care of. Although moisturizing regularly is just as important during spring as it is during winter, it is generally smarter to switch to a lighter moisturizer.

Sunscreen remains an absolute must during the warm-er months, so looking for a sunscreen with a SPF of at least 30 is recommended. A moisturizer with SPF is also a good alternative for those who are looking for versatile products.

Exfoliating regularly is another essential ritual you should not neglect. The number-one way to keep your skin looking healthy is by removing the buildup of dead cells on the skin’s surface, which, in turn, will provide newer, more radiant skin.

Facials have long been used as an easy way to impart the skin

with a healthy look —simply because they remove dull skin, revealing new, more

radiant layers underneath.

Last but not least, paying attention to your diet and exercise regimen and striving to make better choices is another aspect that will have an impact on the way your skin looks. Make sure to include plenty of sea-sonal fruits and vegetables, drink a lot of water and exercise regularly to improve the way your skin looks from within.

Remember, we were born with skin in the best shape it will ever be and virtually perfect. But years of sun exposure, lifestyle choices and other external factors and skin conditions can damage your complexion and rob it of that glow we all desire. It’s up to each one of us to fight against these aging factors to look our best at any age.

If you need a little more one-on-one help to get your skin in shape, suggestions on the right product for your skin, or other age-defying products and services we offer, be sure to come in for a complimentary consulta-tion with our licensed aesthetician.

Today, experts have a better understanding of what causes facial aging, and are able to address signs

of aging like nasolabial folds, volume loss and deep facial lines or wrinkles to provide better results using in-

jectable solutions like Botox or Dysport, hyaluronic acid fillers, collagen-based stimulators and fillers, and even natu-

rally injected fat.

The injectable revolution is a driving force behind the increase in noninvasive cosmetic treatments, and advancements in the use of injectables have come a long way in preventing and reversing the visible signs of aging.

Dr. Schilling offers a wide array of products to address not only the wrinkles, but the muscles that cause lines and furrows to form. Injectable fillers plump up wrinkles while denervating

agents, such as Botox & Dysport, prevent the muscle contrac-tions that lead to the etched lines.

Is it at the TOP of your mind?

The truth for some women is that self-confidence is often tied to the perception of how good or bad they

look. This may seem very shallow, but this is not al-ways the case. A confident feeling of your outside ap-pearance is a projection of one’s inner self for so many women. For most women, even a bad hair day can de-feat your self-confidence.

Breast enhancement is not for every woman, and many women feel perfectly satisfied and content with their breasts just the way they are, but for those who lack confidence may be curious to find out more about this cosmetic surgery, read on...

Reasons vary as to why a woman would want breast augmentation surgery; small breasts, saggy breasts, loss of volume after childbirth or breast-feeding, you may dislike how you look in a bathing suit, you don’t want to be seen undressed in front of your significant other, or you may just feel your breast are ugly, what-ever the reason, do you feel this subject is always at the top of your mind?

If you are still reading this — before you decide to have a consultation, first you must be honest with yourself about your expectations and what you intend to gain. A deep examination of your motives should be essential when considering this procedure. Then, after careful thought write down your questions and concerns and discuss them with Dr. Schilling at your consultation.

Dr. Schilling will listen to your concerns and discuss your expectations. If you decide to proceed, an exami-nation of your breasts will be necessary to determine if you are a good candidate for breast augmentation. Upon examination he will take measurements, observe your skin health and laxity, discuss options of sizes, shapes, and types of implants, along with the risks of the procedure and recovery.

The most important thing to remember is that getting breast implants is a personal decision and if you feel that it would make you feel better, come in for a compli-mentary consultation with Dr. Schilling.

Typical Reasons Women ChooseBreast Augmentation

The simple reason women want to get a breast augmentation is that they are dissatisfied with their breast size. Augmentation makes breasts bigger and fuller. Some women want breast aug-mentation to improve the balance of their figure or to enhance their self-image. Other women want the surgery to restore breast volume after preg-nancy or weight loss.

• Enhancing breast size when women feel that their breasts are too small or not in proportion with their overall body contour

• Achieving a more proportionate breast symmetry in size and contour

• Restoringbreastvolumeandfirmnessforwomenafter weight loss, pregnancy, or breast-feeding

• Improving breast shapes for women that have sag-ging or have lost skin elasticity (a reason that fre-quently involves breast lift surgery, too)

COMMON SYMPTOMSof

Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Many women with prolapse avoid going to the doctor because they are embarrassed or afraid of what the doctor might find, but prolapse is very common and is nothing to be ashamed of at any

age.

Patients describe many symptoms which are related overall to Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP). The most common are: heaviness and pressure in the vaginal and rectal areas; protrusion of tissues through the vaginal opening; difficulty in pushing out bowel movements; leaking urine (incon-tinence) or going to urinate frequently because the bladder is not emptying properly.

What is uterine prolapse?Pelvic organ prolapse occurs when the pelvic floor muscles become

weak or damaged and can no longer support the pelvic organs. The womb (uterus) is the only organ that actually falls into the va-gina. When the bladder and bowel slip out of place, they push up against the walls of the vagina. While prolapse is not considered a life threatening condition it may cause a great deal of discom-fort and distress.

There are a number of different types of prolapse that can occur in a woman’s

pelvic area and these are divided into three categories according to the part of the va-

gina they affect: front wall, back wall or top of the vagina. It is not uncommon to have

more than one type of prolapse. In women with prior hysterectomy, it is still possible for the

top of the vagina to fall down, even though the uterus is no longer there. This is called a post hys-

terectomy (“after hysterectomy”) vaginal prolapse. This system can fail in different places. Depending on the loca-

tion of the damage, a different part of the pelvic organs may prolapse.

What happens if a prolapse is found?Your treatment will depend on the type of pelvic organ prolapse you have. Dr. Sea or I may recom-mend first treating your prolapse without surgery. In some people, if symptoms significantly affect quality of life, surgery is eventually necessary. We can discuss all these options at your visit.

If surgery is necessary, Dr. Sea or I use minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery to treat most types of pelvic organ prolapse. Minimally invasive surgery allows us to make smaller incisions and can shorten your hospital stay. Talk to us about why one procedure may be better for you than another, what the surgical approach will be, and what materials will be used. Also ask us about the long-term success for your planned procedure.

Have a conversation with us.Before your appointment, it may help to make a list of symptoms, concerns and questions. Take the list with you to your appointment. It may be difficult at first to talk about your symptoms, and some women find the examination uncomfortable, but it only takes a few minutes. And by having your symptoms checked you are taking an active role in your health and well-being.

Make an appointment to continue this conversation.
