As a Club we endeavour to assist prospective judges to progress up the Judges Lists. We have liaised with the KC and decided to undertake 'special awards' at our Show, where hopefully there is already a sizeable captive audience who will make a reasonable number for the invited judge to go over and include on their judges' CV.

N.B. The special awards are judged as an entirely separate entity from the show proper. IF YOUR DOG IS BEATEN IN THE SPECIAL AWARD CLASS IT IS NOT CLASSED AS A BEATEN DOG AND IS NOT DISQUALIFIED FROM CHALLENGING IN THE MAIN SHOW. Dogs have always been an integral part of my life growing up with working collies and Labradors. My first contact with Whippets was in the late 1950s on a visit to Crufts with a friend whose mother was judging, while Maxine watched her mother judge, I wandered off to look at other breeds. I found the Whippet ring and was immediately fascinated by these elegant little dogs, I was hooked, my next dog would be a Whippet. My dream of owning one did not happen until much later, in 1975 when my husband Peter left the army and we were settled in our first permanent home I bought my first Whippet a pale brindle dog from the Shalfleet kennel of Barbara Wilton Clark, Shalfleet Storywriter. I was an absolute novice so we made our mistakes together, and in 1977 to my great joy and amazement he won the RCC at LKA and went on to become my first champion, as did his pale brindle daughter, Ch Shalfleet Songwriter at Faracre. In 1983 Marshalls Milord at Faracre joined the family, by Ch Shalfleet Silent Wish out Rae Sebley’s lovely fawn bitch Beaconmoor Witching Hour, this pale fawn dog was an immediate success in the ring and quickly attained his title.

In 1989 Barbara Wilton Clark, who had become a firm friend and mentor moved to Tenerife leaving me with 4 of her Whippets, 2 of them being Ch Shalfleet Silent Wish and an unshown fawn bitch Shalfleet Still Night Magic. Magic produced a champion in both her litters, Ch Shalfleet Still So Sharp at Fararce by Ch Shalfleet Silent Wish and Ch Fararce Forgotten Times by Ishkoodah Ibn Ab Kha. Still so Sharp was my dog of a lifetime, a gentleman among whippets winning 15 CCs including Crufts in 1995.

In 2004 Sheila Thompson asked me to campaign her beautiful fawn bitch Walkabout Wild Lament, she came to me in April 2004 having won 2 CCs the previous year, I took her out for the first time in July where she won the CC and BOB completing her title, the following year she won 6 CCs all with BOB, it was with a heavy heart that I returned her to Sheila to be bred from. I have also bred and owned 6 other Whippets that have won either CCs or RCCs.

The Fararce affix was registered in 1978, and I first awarded CCs in Whippets in 1984 and Greyhounds in 1993. I have enjoyed my time in the breed. Whippets have given me the opportunity to judge both at home and abroad making many good friends along the way, and I cannot imagine my life without them, I am sure that this enjoyment will continue when I judge dogs at the East Anglian Whippet Club in July.

Bitches: Rachel Wray (Perrault)I owned my first hound, an Afghan, in the 1970s. I loved the sighthounds independent attitude and intelligence as well as their elegant outlines and grace. I was hooked on Hounds from then on.

Since then I have owned , shown and handled several breeds across the groups with some success and owned Whippets since 1994. I loved the breed's character and sense of fun.

In Whippets I had top brood bitch in 2000 and several SBN, bred a Champion bitch, CC and RCC winning dogs. We had group placings with our bitch who was also a Pedigree Champion Stakes finalist in 2002.

I started judging in 1993 and my first Whippet appointment was in 1995 and awarded Challenge certificates in Whippets in 2015

I have always maintained a keen interest in Whippets and I am honoured to be judging the breed for East Anglian Whippet Club.

Special Awards: Ashley Place (Aarminias/Brochinbelle)There has always been a dog of some description in my life. My first being a Welsh Springer Spaniel, a breed which I still own in partnership with my mum (Aarminias). I began my love of competing at the age of 6 travelling to obedience shows with my mum and friends and eventually getting my own dog Scooby, a Border Terrier, at the age of 8 . We had a lot of fun as a team and we competed at Crufts in the YKC obedience numerous times.

I began showing our Welsh Springers when I was 10 with great success, gaining our first stud book number not long afterwards.

The Whippets came along pretty soon after when I started to show them for someone then along came my first Whippet whom I owned in partnership, she gained her JW and we won Best Puppy in Breed at Crufts in 2013. I have since moved on and currently own 4 Whippets, some in partnership with my mum Michelle (Aarminias) and some in partnership with my great friend Kirsty (Brochinbelle) we have had a lot of success over the last few years since going it alone with CC winners JWs and Championship Show group places .

I still show the Welshies as well as my Labrador but my love is with my Whippets. I have completed all the relevant KC and breed specific seminars for all 3 breeds I show and own and I actively judge them all on a regular basis.

I can’t thank East Anglian Whippet Club enough for this opportunity to judge at their Championship show and I am looking forward to running my hands over some wonderful dogs.

4. FOULING BY DOGS: Any owner, exhibitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog is required to remove immediately any fouling caused by their dog(s) and/or any grooming waste at any licensed venue and within the environs of that event including car and caravan parks and approaches.

EXHIBITORS PLEASE NOTEIn accordance with Kennel Club guidelines, exhibitors must display

exhibit number/owner identification on their crate, cage or container at all times

RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. The Show will open at 8.30 am. 2. Dogs will be received at any time but it is the responsibility of the exhibitor to ensure that exhibits are available

for the judging of classes entered. 3. Judging will commence at: Bitches 9.15 am; Dogs 9.45 am. 4. The Show will close half an hour after judging has been completed by which time dogs must be removed. Exhibits

may be removed from the Show after their judging has been completed. Exhibits may not be removed any earlier unless by written order of the Veterinary Surgeon, Veterinary Practitioner or of the Show Management and then only in very exceptional and unforeseen circumstances which must be reported to the Kennel Club.

5. The use of cooking stoves in the proximity of the tenting and benching areas is forbidden except as authorised by the Show Management.

6. ENTRY FEES: Members: 1st Entry per dog £11.50; each subsequent entry with same dog £2.50. Non-Members: 1st Entry per dog £13.50; each subsequent entry with same dog £3.00. Special Awards: £1.00 per Special Award. Not for Competition: £1.00 per dog. Catalogues: £4.00 pre-paid with entries (limited number available on day). Membership: Single £4.00; Joint £5.00; Junior £1.00. Joint Membership = Husband/Wife or Partnership (Membership due 1st January annually).

7. There is no prize money on offer at this Show. 8. The Committee reserves to itself the right to refuse entries. 9. Puppies under six calendar months of age on the first day of the Show are not eligible for exhibition. 10. The mating of bitches within the precincts of the Show is forbidden. 11. Best Puppy in Show Where a Best Puppy in Show competition is scheduled the Best Puppy in Show is a

puppy which has competed and is unbeaten by any other puppy exhibited at the same Show. A puppy is a dog of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the first day of the Show. Where the Best in Show is a puppy it should automatically be awarded Best Puppy in Show. Similarly, if the Reserve Best in Show is a puppy which has only been beaten by an adult dog it should also automatically be Best Puppy in Show. Consequently, selection of Best Puppy in Show must follow the selection of Best in Show.

Best Puppy in Show must be selected from puppies which have been judged and which are unbeaten by any other puppy.

Withdrawal from other Competition: Puppies which become eligible for Best Puppy in Show may be withdrawn from all other competition, other than Breed Classes prior to the competition for Best Puppy in Show as appropriate, in order to remain unbeaten. A puppy beaten in competition for Best Puppy in Show may subsequently be exhibited in all competition for which it was previously eligible. The dog declared Best Puppy in Show, however, must not compete in any subsequent competition.

Proviso: For the purpose of this Regulation, dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Progeny, Brace and Team or a Special Award confined to one breed will not be considered to be a beaten dog.

12. Best in Show The dog declared Best in Show is a dog which had competed and is unbeaten by any other dog exhibited at the same Show.

Best in Show must be selected from the exhibits declared Best of Sex providing they are unbeaten winning dogs. Reserve Best in Show must be selected from the Best Opposite Sex and the Reserve Best of Sex to the exhibit declared Best in Show.

The dogs declared Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show must not compete in any subsequent competition. Withdrawal from other Competition: Dogs which become eligible for Best in Show may be withdrawn from all other

competition, other than breed classes prior to the competition for Best in Show as appropriate in order to remain unbeaten. A dog beaten in competition for Best in Show may subsequently be exhibited in all competition for which it was previously eligible. The dogs declared Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show however, must not compete in any subsequent competition.

Proviso: For the purposes of this Regulation, dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Progeny, Brace and Team or a Special Award confined to a single breed, will not be considered to be beaten dogs.

13. Exhibits will not be admitted to Best in Show competition after a period of ten minutes has elapsed since the announcement that exhibits are required for judging, unless they have been unavoidably delayed by previous judging not being completed on time, and then only with the special permission of the Show Management.

14. Exhibitors must not pick up dogs by their tails and leads when lifting them. This is not acceptable. Exhibitors should note that such practice would constitute harsh handling and reports of such practice will be referred to the Committee under Kennel Club Show Regulation F11.

15. It is not acceptable to handle a dog in a manner which causes its feet not to touch the ground when on the move. Exhibitors should note that such practices could constitute harsh handling and reports of such practice will be referred to the Committee under Kennel Club Show Regulation F11.

16. All exhibitors must be familiar with Kennel Club Regulation F (Annex B) - Regulations for the Preparation of Dogs for Exhibition.

17. All dogs resident outside of the UK must be issued with a Kennel Club Authority to Compete number before entry to the show/event can be made. All overseas entries without an Authority to Compete number will be returned to the exhibitor/competitor.

18. Dogs in Vehicles on Hot Days. Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club offers the following guidance to help guide you through the do’s and don’ts travelling to and whilst at KC licensed events.

• When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy holiday route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams.

• If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all. • The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water

available to drink. • Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog. • When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle. • Keep the dog in the shade - take your own shade for example a large umbrella and always have plenty of water

available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated. • Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths

of time. Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to dire

results. Please look after your dog’s welfare. WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK FORCIBLE ENTRY TO YOUR VEHICLE MAY BE NECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED. Anyone whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not put a dog’s health and welfare at risk by any action, default, omission or otherwise. Breach of Kennel Club Regulations in this respect may be referred to the General Committee for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rules and Regulations. Exhibitors/Competitors are reminded that show societies have the right under Kennel Club Regulation to refuse any entry.

19. Not for Competition entries will be accepted. Details of each dog so entered must be recorded on the entry form and must be Kennel Club registered.

20. No modifications will be made to the Schedule except by permission of the General Committee of the Kennel Club, which will be followed by advertisement in the Canine Press wherever possible.

21. The Committee will be most anxious for the care and safety of all dogs entered for competition and for any property entrusted to it, but it must be clearly understood by exhibitors and any other persons that the Committee will not be responsible for the entire or partial loss, or detention of, or damage to any dog or person for any cause whatsoever, nor for any act of omission of themselves, their officers, servants, agents and others, and it is on this understanding only that entries are accepted.

22. Any owner, competitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog is required to remove as soon as possible any fouling caused by their dog(s) at any Kennel Club licensed show within the licensed venue and within the environs of that event including car and caravan parks and approaches.

23. The owner, exhibitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog at Kennel Club licensed events must at all times ensure that the dog is kept under proper control whilst at the licensed venue, including its environs, car and caravan parks and approaches. This Regulation applies before (at any time during the set up period at the venue), during the event and afterwards (at any time during the breakdown of the event).

24. A dog may be disqualified by the General Committee from any award, whether an objection has been lodged or not, if proved amongst other things to have been: a) registered or recorded as having been bred by the scheduled Judge, this shall not apply to a Judge appointed in an emergency; b) exhibited without payment of appropriate entry fees.

25. Every exhibitor shall ensure that whilst the dog is being exhibited, its handler shall display the correct ring number.

DEFINITIONS OF CLASSESIn the following definitions, a Challenge Certificate includes any Show award that counts towards the title of Champion under the Rules of any governing body recognised by The Kennel Club.Wins at Championship Shows in breed classes where Challenge Certificates are not on offer shall be counted as wins at Open Shows. In the case of a dog owned in partnership and entered in Members' classes or competing for Members' Specials each partner must, at the time of entry, be a member of the Society. In estimating the number of awards won, all wins up to and including the seventh day before the date of closing of postal entries shall be counted when entering for any class i.e. Friday, 2nd June 2017. Wins in Variety classes do not count for entry in Breed classes but when entering for Variety classes, wins in both Breed and Variety classes must be counted. A First Prize does not include a Special Prize of whatever value.

If an exhibitor reports before the judging of a class or classes that a dog has been entered which is ineligible, the exhibitor may choose one of the following options: (1) Withdrawal The dog may be withdrawn from competition subject to the conditions of Regulations 9(j) and 20. (2) Transfer a) If a dog is ineligible for a class or classes as regards its colour, sex, weight or height the Show Secretary shall

transfer it to the equivalent class or classes for the correct colour, sex, weight or height and, in the event of there being no equivalent class, Minor Puppy and Puppy excepted to the Open class for the correct colour, sex, weight or height.

b) For an exhibit entered incorrectly in a Minor Puppy Class, Puppy Class or Junior Class, which is over age but under twelve calendar months of age, eighteen calendar months of age or 24 calendar months of age respectively, the Show Secretary shall transfer the exhibit to the Puppy Class, Junior Class or Yearling Class respectively for the correct colour, sex, weight or height and in the event of there being no Puppy, Junior or Yearling Class to the Open Class for the correct colour, sex, weight or height.

c) For any reason other than the above, the Show Secretary shall transfer it to the Open Class for the correct colour, sex, weight or height.

d) If an exhibit arrives late and misses a class, even if it is the only class in which the dog is entered, the dog may not be transferred to any other class.

MINOR PUPPY For dogs of six and not exceeding nine calendar months of age on the first day of the Show.PUPPY For dogs of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the first day of the Show.JUNIOR For dogs of six and not exceeding eighteen calendar months of age on the first day of the Show.YEARLING For dogs of twelve and not exceeding twenty-four calendar months of age on the first day of the Show.NOVICE For dogs which have not won a Challenge Certificate or three or more First Prizes at Open and

Championship Shows (Minor Puppy, Special Minor Puppy, Puppy and Special Puppy classes excepted, whether restricted or not).

GRADUATE For dogs which have not won a Challenge Certificate or 4 or more First Prizes at Championship Shows in Graduate, Post Graduate, Minor Limit, Mid Limit, Limit and Open Classes whether restricted or not where Challenge Certificates were offered for the breed.

POST GRADUATE For dogs which have not won a Challenge Certificate or 5 or more First Prizes at Championship Shows in Post Graduate, Minor Limit, Mid Limit, Limit and Open Classes whether restricted or not where Challenge Certificates were offered for the breed.

MID LIMIT For dogs which have not become show Champions under Kennel Club Regulations or under the rules of any governing body recognised by the Kennel Club or won 5 or more First Prizes in all at Championship Shows in Mid Limit, Limit and Open classes, confined to the breed, whether restricted or not, at Shows where Challenge Certificates were offered for the breed.

LIMIT For dogs which have not become show Champions under Kennel Club Regulations or under the rules of any governing body recognised by the Kennel Club or won 7 or more First Prizes in all at Championship Shows in Limit or Open classes, confined to the breed, whether restricted or not, at Shows where Challenge Certificates were offered for the breed.

ADVISORY NOTICENOT FOR COMPETITION Societies may at their discretion, accept Not for Competition entries. Societies

may accept such entries from breeds of dog not included within the title of the Society and at Shows held over more than one day, such entries may be accepted on any day from any breed.

taken in the event of dogs left in cars being found in a distressed condition. 4. FOULING BY DOGS Any owner, exhibitor, handler or other person in charge of a

dog is required to remove immediately any fouling caused by their dog(s) and/or any grooming waste at any licensed venue and within the environs of that event including car and caravan parks and approaches.
