“Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And God permitting, we will do so.” HEBREWS 6:1-3

1. Water Baptised into His death - and life

“Therefore we were buried with Him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father; even so we also should walk in newness of life.“

Baptism with (2) the Holy Spirit and (3) Fire

“I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” MATTHEW 3:11

• “But I have a baptism of suffering to go through. And I must go through it.” LUKE 12:50

• “Jesus said. “Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?” “We can.” they answered. Jesus said to them, “You will drink the cup I drink. And you will go through the baptism I go through.” MARK 10:38-39

The vicarious outcomes of Christ’s suffering• ”For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for

the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.” 1 Peter 3:18

• ”For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:21

• “You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:20

• “And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.” Philippians 2:8-10

…but what heart conditions enabled Him to do it?

3 ”Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.” PHILIPPIANS 2:3-8
