SDPstands for "Session Description Protocol". Its purpose is to describe multi-media se

during the session setup phase.

SDP was originally designed to work on the bone !the part of the internet that supportsmulticast and thus permits efficient many-to-many communication#.

Still it works fine for unicast sessions as well.

SDP is designed to con$ey media session description information to recipients !such as% te&istence of the session addresses to be used in the session transport info media stream

etc# so they know about the upcoming session they may e&press their willingness either participate in the session or not and if they do they can prepare the appropriate resourcparsers decoders#.

In case of unicastsession the recipient of the SDP can also indicate what subset of offeredstreams'codecs it supports so the offerer knows what can be used in the session.
