Little Fish lives in the sea. He likes swimming. His mommy says,‘Don’t swim away from me!’ Little Fish wants to swim where hismommy can’t see him. He wants to see new things.

Little Fish’s mommy is sleeping. Little Fish swims away!

Mommy opens an eye. ‘No, you don’t, Little Fish,’ says Mommy.‘You stay near me. You are safe here. The sea is a dangerous

place for you to be.’

The sun is shining on the water. The water is warm. Little Fish’smommy is sleepy. Little Fish watches her. She closes her eyes.Little Fish waits. He plays with the green seaweed. Then Little Fishsees his mommy sleeping!

‘Now I can go and see new things,’ says Little Fish.‘Mommy’s sleeping.’

He swims away from the sunny part of the sea. Little Fish feelshappy.

Little Fish sees many small fish swimming by. ‘Hello, Little Fish!’they call, ‘Don’t swim away from your mommy!’

Little Fish swims away. The sea is dark. There are no rocks, just alot of water. The water feels very cold.

‘Where are you going, Little Fish?’ asks a voice. LittleFish looks and sees a long, thin fish.

‘Where is your mommy?’ asks the thin fish.

‘I don’t know,’ says Little Fish.

‘You stay near your mommy,’ says the thin fish, ‘Thereis danger here.’

‘But you aren’t afraid,’ says Little Fish. ‘Who are you?’

‘I’m Anableps. But you can call me Four Eyes.’

‘You don’t have four eyes!’ says Little Fish.

‘Oh, yes I do! I have two eyes to see under the water.And I have two to see above the water. I can seeeverything. I can see danger!’

‘What danger?’ asks Little Fish.

‘Some birds eat fish,’ says Four Eyes. ‘Don’t you knowthat?’

Little Fish is cold. He wants his mommy and the sunny rocks again.

‘Goodbye Four Eyes,’ says Little Fish. ‘I want my mommy now.’

‘Goodbye, Little Fish,’ says Four Eyes.

‘Little Fish!’ says Mommy. ‘You stay near me.’

‘I know a fish with four eyes, Mommy!’

‘Silly Little Fish,’ says Mommy. ‘Fish don’t have four eyes.’

‘Anableps does,’ thinks Little Fish. But he says nothing.
