My favourite time of year, spring is here and weddings are just getting more and more fabulous. Whoever would have thought we could have gone from sugared almonds to

the creativity of today in just 5 years – so inspiring.

Is it just us or is 2014 the year to say I do? If our magazine subscriptions and visitor numbers to our wedding event with a difference is anything to go by, it seems a record

number of couples are engaged and planning their wedding across the East Midlands this year! And what a fabulous year it is going to be to say those all important vows – we’ve been forecast a fabulous summer which can only mean one thing; beautiful wedding eye candy is on the horizon.

Whether your wedding is imminent or not until 2016, we promise to deliver you as much wedding inspiration from in and around the East Midlands as we possibly can.

And this Spring edition is no exception. With stunning photo shoots, gorgeous real weddings and insights into some of the most sought after wedding suppliers in the area, you can plan your wedding day with serious style with us at Save the Date Magazine.Until July!

“60 hours in the planning, a group of amazingly talented and awesome

suppliers. Four models To. Die.For. A heartbreakingly gorgeous collection of dresses. A venue to make you want to get married again. Accessories, flowers, makeup, hair and other stuff just too ace to describe.

A Vespa, an enormous light up heart, a Daimler. A few sleepless nights. But WHAT

A DAY. I wanted to show two different table styles: A classic Tuscan theme as homage to the Italian restaurant we were in – a glamorous rustic affair with a very neutral palette. The second look was a complete contrast – a bright, Kate Spade inspired table with bold stripes and tones of navy and coral.

You will be hearing a lot more about Amalfi White. A stunning backdrop for a wedding.

Elegant and inspirational, the décor and the furniture in the Ballroom provided the perfect backdrop for our shoot.

Oh the dresses. Timeless Couture have produced their most beautiful and elegant

collection to date.

The whole day was a lot fun and everyone was a real joy to work with, it’s pretty cool

when everyone is so creative, there were ideas being thrown around left right and centre.”

no further than Beeston Fields on the outskirts of Nottingham.

GETTING TO KNOW

Page 13: Save the Date Magazine - Issue 22

Save The Date | Issue Twenty Two

Nestled amidst 135 acres of parkland, the family owned

estate is one of the wedding industry’s best kept secrets.

First established in the 19th century, the estate features an original Victorian walled garden that has been lovingly restored to become a truly inspiring marquee venue.

Once used generations ago for a supply of fresh fruit and vegetables, it is now leading the way with an award-winning tailor made service, perfectly fitting for the discerning bride in search of a bespoke and personal approach. Emma and Rebecca are the driving force behind Beeston Field’s success and with such a fantastic, well organised team, brides and grooms can be assured of a high quality delivery of their wedding day.

Over three generations the estate has been commended on their award winning hospitality, locally

farmed fresh food, hand-picked wines and a warm welcome for everyone. This includes bespoke menus featuring afternoon teas, BBQs, hog roasts and outdoor paella pans which are cooked on the sunken patio.

The drinks will also be flowing with a selection of summer ciders, bottled lagers and the estate’s signature peach bellini to choose from.

For a wonderfully unique wedding, be sure to take advantage of the spectacular English gardens which are perfect for outdoor games, treasure hunts and a range of entertainment, from string quartets to ice cream tricycles.

An exceptional, unique venue, Beeston Fields offers charming character and a tailor-made service which sees them as one of the leading wedding venues in the East Midlands.

Enter Narnia Welcome to the wedding of Sara & William at

Hodsock Priory}

16

Hodsock Priory is one of our favourite wedding venues. A stunning setting and a fantastic team, we are very excited

to share this beautiful Narnia themed wedding with you.

Page 17: Save the Date Magazine - Issue 22

Save The Date | Issue Twenty Two

Save The Date | Issue Twenty Two

“When we began planning our wedding we knew we wanted a grand party in a secluded mansion in the middle of sprawling

countryside. When we drove along the winding driveway up to Hodsock Priory on the South Yorkshire border we fell in love with it before we’d even been inside. The historic gatehouse makes for the grandest of entrances and the Tudor chimneys are beautiful. The deal was sealed when we explored the interior - Hodsock has a timeless quirky charm that is enhanced by its vast collection of antique paintings and vintage trinkets.

Although Narnia was the overarching theme of our wedding, we styled the house in a 1940s fashion, by adding 1940s memorabilia

from old suitcases to cut glass ornaments and my Grandma’s 1940s books to silver trays filled with Turkish delight.

I grew up enthralled by the magic of CS Lewis’ Narnia Chronicles, so when we decided that we wanted an Autumn/winter wedding it

was the obvious theme. Having a theme allows you to have fun with every aspect of your wedding, from the invites to the table games and the Photo Booth - who doesn’t love dressing up as a beaver.

Also, I grew up listening to my Grandma’s tales of the war, she was evacuated from London to the country, much like the Narnia stories. This gave our theme a certain magical quality.

I had my dress made by a Vivianne, a dress designer based at Sophie Louise Bridal Boutique in Boston Spa near Harrogate. We based the

design on a backless 1940s silk red carpet gown. I felt like a movie star!

I hired the magnificent Stems Design to provide the flowers for the wedding. We worked closely to turn Hodsock’s Pavilion into

a Narnia woodland wonderland. For the tables Lynne dressed

Page 18: Save the Date Magazine - Issue 22

18

Save The Date | Issue Twenty Two

large silver candelabras in moss, birch, ivy, tillandsia moss and trailing amaranthus. Each one sparkled with real snow, which was also scattered on the fir trees we used to frame the room. The focal point of the room was an antique wardrobe filled with my Grandma’s fur coats and fox furs. Next to it stood a writing bureau with our four-tiered wedding cake resting on top of a wooden stump.

When I saw my bouquet for the first time I cried - it was absolutely stunning. Lynne had created the

most unique bouquet bursting with wild flowers.

As soon as we’d booked the venue we booked the amazing Toast of Leeds as our photographer - we loved her quirky style

and sense of fun. She managed to capture all the little moments that flashed us by and created a story of the day that we’ll always looks back on and admire.

We hired Matthew Modget from Matthew Modget films to document our day. He specialises in vintage wedding

videography using a Super 8mm camera. When we shared our wedding video, guests commented that they didn’t realise he was there!

Being particular about the style I wanted (Old Hollywood glamour) I was very particular about my hair and make-up.

I hired Kristina Gasperas to create my look, she specialises in vintage make up. Her colleague Kasia Fortuna finished my look

Page 19: Save the Date Magazine - Issue 22

Save The Date | Issue Twenty Two

19

Save The Date | Issue Twenty Two

with a 1940s wave and styled my bridesmaids in their preferred vintage style.

We hired Glorious Catering to cater for the day. We considered creating a

Narnia themed menu, but decided against it opting for locally-sourced good quality food instead. That said we did serve Narnia-themed canapés - foie gras lollipops, chilli and hot chocolate shots, smoked quail with quails eggs and aioli, home-cured venison and pickled strawberries, and wild mushroom and ragout cups. Our choice main menu full of delicious lamb and beef dishes was a hit

with the guests who commented that it was the best wedding food they’d ever had.

Hiring New York Brass Band, a New Orleans inspired brass band from

York, was one of our best decisions. Our guests went crazy for them! Their mix of rumbling tuba, relentless drums and wailing horns to songs like Daft Punk and Aha got everyone dancing. We took the party in to the gardens at midnight and danced beneath the stars.

We hired lighting experts to enhance our theme. Matt from Wedding Venue

Lighting hung fairy lights from the top of all the windows and around the fir trees, we also used up-lighters with a hint of purple to add some colour - they looked fantastic.

My advice to future brides would be to let go of your dress, it will get dirty,

so there is no point in worrying about it. Have fun and enjoy one of the best days of your life!

Hire a band - weddings are long and drunken affairs. Hiring a band relieved

the stress of worrying about everyone having a good time in the evening.”

When it comes to deciding on your wedding centrepieces there are so many options out there, just type ‘centrepiece’ in to Pinterest and there will be hundreds of beautiful options that you could choose from. Creative couples will enjoy coming up with their own unique ideas while others may be overwhelmed with the choice. If you’re feeling a little overwhelmed try thinking about some of these pointers to help guide you.

What shall I choose for my centrepIeces?{ {

what’s your style?"The style of your wedding may be dictated by you as a couple, perhaps you are very quirky and out there and want your wedding to reflect this, or perhaps your venue is dictating your style. Have you chosen a relaxed barn setting or a traditional stately home? When choosing your centrepieces choose something that fits in with the overall style of your day. The types of vases and containers as well as flowers you use will set the style of your centrepieces, grand candelabra suit formal elegant weddings while a grouping of bottles and jars suit a more informal style wedding.

Tall or low? It is up to you whether you choose tall or low centrepieces, one thing to remember is your guests will want to talk to each other at the table, so whatever you do don’t put something in the table that will obstruct their view. Pick something low enough that they can see over, or tall enough that they can see under. Not all tables have to be the same, tall centrepieces give immediate wow factor as guests enter the room and for certain high ceilinged venues tall centrepieces are a must if you want to create impact. However you don’t need them on all the tables, adding low centrepieces into the mix creates variety and interest around the room.

what is your budget?Be realistic, if your centrepieces are important to you allocate a budget that reflects it, on the other hand if they are not so important and you would rather allocate your budget elsewhere, do so. To help your budget go further opt for more foliage and herbs mixed with seasonal flowers, rather than large roses and specialist flowers.

one vase or a grouping?Depending on your style you can choose one vase, jug, bucket filled with beautiful blooms in the centre of your tables or instead have a mix of different vases, bottles, jam jars or even crystal decanters grouped in the centre of the

table. Whether you are choosing a grouping, or one vase in the middle, adding tea light holders or votives to the table will add interest and romantic candle light as the night draws in. To add even more detail to the tables think about laying something over the linen cloth,

hessian table runners and wooden tree slices work well for rustic style weddings and lace table cloths or a stack of vintage books add a lovely touch for vintage style weddings.

ask a florist or do it yourself? This will depend on what you have chosen, the morning of your wedding is meant for relaxing so if you are thinking of taking this on yourself make sure you have chosen something that can be done well in advance and you have someone who will set it out for you. Or opt for non-floral centrepieces, lanterns and candles make lovely centrepieces and can be prepared well in advance. Don’t take on anything you can’t manage and have a practice before the wedding. If in doubt always ask a florist, if you have chosen your own containers many florists will be happy to use these, this is a lovely touch as you can then gift the whole container to special guests after the wedding.

Re-use your centrepieces, often some of the guest tables will be moved for the evening party. Is there an area at your venue the centrepieces can be moved to be enjoyed by your guests, perhaps on tables in a quieter seating area, or if you had smaller bottles and vases they look fab along window sills or on the guest book table.

At theweddingofmydreams.co.uk we have a whole collection of wedding vases and vessels for centrepieces to suit a variety of wedding styles."

So here are a few tips from us to help you prepare for any weather eventuality!

Don’t panic and embrace the fun - A happy bride and groom means happy guests too. If your guests can see that you are happy and relaxed, then they will be too (and, believe us, it does make a difference!). The rain really shouldn’t stop you from getting the beautiful images you’ve hoped for and, if you’re happy to work with the rain and have umbrellas, parasols and wellies, then it means you can get a few quirky or heavenly romantic shots that just wouldn’t have been possible on a sunny day too.

Make the most of your beautiful venue - you’ve chosen your venue for a reason and so it’s always lovely to use it - doorways, tree canopies, pagodas, summerhouses, porticos – they all act as a cosy shelter. They provide a gorgeous soft light and are usually a dream to photograph under. There are also countless stunning features inside too – fireplaces, staircases, split levels, bedrooms....the list is endless and all you need is a little imagination.

WHAT HAppENs WHEN iT rAiNs?

Here, our regular contributor Rachael Connerton talks about how you can make your wedding day just perfect, whatever the weather!

}“The dress hangs beautifully on the wardrobe, the stunning flowers and treats for your guests are all ready to adorn the tables, but there is just one thing that you might not be able to predict on your wedding day.....the weather.

Quite understandably, many bride and grooms fear the dreaded rain on their big day ....However, we say time and time again that we are yet to

photograph a wedding that the weather has managed to dampen; if anything, they’ve been even more fun!

Page 47: Save the Date Magazine - Issue 22

Save The Date | Issue Twenty Two

47

Save The Date | Issue Twenty Two

Be flexible - The beauty about a wedding day is just that; it spans most of a day and very rarely does it rain nonstop – there are usually a few very helpful breaks. This means an opportunity to nip outside with your photographer to capture that all-important shot outside your venue.

Plan ahead (just a little!) - Whilst you can’t control the weather, you can be prepared for it. you’ll have obviously spoken to your wedding venue about areas undercover for your guests to be cosy during the drinks reception. your photographer should also pre-scout for the locations (either in advance or on the morning) so that there are some sheltered locations to head to for your day.

Welcome the romanticism - Although it might not be quite what you had planned, the rain really can bring a type of beauty that you wouldn’t have in the glorious sunshine. The reflections on the pavement and the softness of natural light all add to the ethereal romanticism.

There are endless possibilities to create some absolutely beautiful photographs when it rains. The images tend to be romantic, unpredictable and you might even be caught off-guard - that’s when the magic happens…

I love meeting our brides and grooms for their preview session, but I get even more excited when it’s for a wedding where we’ve had some rain - we then get to see those fabulous reactions when the happy couple see just how incredible they both looked and how the rain was part of their special day rather than spoiling it!"

“After a venue search that took us to literally yorkshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire,

Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire, I finally stumbled upon Stancliffe Hall after an extensive evening trawling Google. As it was new, it didn’t feature on the first or second pages, in fact I think I was on page 7 or 8, so it was like finding a little gem. I am from Northamptonshire, but Adam is from yorkshire and with parents in Cyprus, we really did feel that in the minefield that is wedding planning, the world was our oyster but in the end it was the rolling hills in the District that won our hearts.

As soon as I discovered Stancliffe online I had a warm fuzzy feeling about it. We

ideally wanted something that we could have exclusively and make our own, not just for the day but for the whole weekend.

We had visited a number of properties that would allow us to have it for the day (11am-

11am) but I hated the idea of feeling like I was on a conveyor belt and seeing the next bride rolling in as we were rolling out! I remember so vividly going to visit Stancliffe hall for the first time, the gates opening and driving down the spectacular driveway with rolling views of the District to

our left and then suddenly the splendour of the house appearing as we turned the corner at the bottom. I think we both knew then it was something special and even on a grotty day in the middle of winter it still had a sparkle about it. Inside the house didn’t disappoint either, the bedrooms are beautifully designed and the Whitworth suite is neutrally toned so that no matter what your theme, you don’t have to compete. As soon as Adam found the boys billiard room, that was it! It was a done deal.

The added benefit was yew Tree Cottage (a holiday let property owned by Stancliffe Hall,

sat within the grounds) meant we could really make a weekend of it with family and friends and gave us the opportunity to host a pre-wedding day BBQ to get the party started. It was a great night and meant we got to spend even more time with the people we love the most and who were about to play a big part in our big day.

Our final theme - classic English with a slight modern twist. Whilst there were

elements of vintage in terms of colour and fabric, we introduced modern fonts in stationary

and metallic finishes. There was not a piece of bunting or a birdcage in sight. Beyond the venue, the next most important things for us were caterers – we love good food! And the photographers.

We were recommended Coghlans by the team at Stancliffe and I am so glad we

took their advice. The service we received was second to none and they worked with us entirely

to design a menu that was tailored 100% to us, reflected us as a couple but also our theme.

I came across our photographer Rachael Connerton on the Save the Date Website and

was immediately drawn to her relaxed reportage and none intrusive style. We knew we didn’t want a selection of posed family portraits but more a collection of natural images that captured the mood and told the story of our day. As soon as she suggested we met in the pub for the first time, I knew we were going to get on

well! Over the last year or so, Rachael and Ian now feel more like friends than just our wedding photographers. They really took the time to get to know us as couple but also individuals and were there to guide us through the process every step of the way. let’s face it, they have seen alot of weddings so it was great to pick their brains too.

Right from the start of the planning process I always wanted something fun and cool that

people would always remember about our day. Both Adam and I work in events and so there was always the added pressure to deliver a seamless day with impeccable attention to detail. I had found images online of giant letters and knew we simply had to have some. So they were my quirk! The main focus was around our giant “lOVE” sign which we positioned on the lawn for the drinks reception, they made for some fabulous photos. We also indulged in putting our names

down the driveway, which made for a great entrance – everyone was completely wowed

My advice to future brides is to be true to yourself and try and make it the day you

want. It is very easy to think you have to please everyone else. Our day was full of all the things we love and because it was personal to us, that’s why everyone loved being there. And finally - use pinterest!”

Having been built in 1460 by the noble and flamboyant Burgh family, Gainsborough is a

late-medieval manor house with a wealth of history preserved in the foundations of its walls. Although the term ‘unique’ is frequently affiliated to many wedding venues, we don’t think it’s ever been so justified as when describing this magnificent manor house!

That’s why Honeysuckle and Castle are so thrilled at the prospect of becoming the next

step in Gainsborough’s fascinating journey, as we embrace it’s prestigious past to enable Bride and Grooms to have a share of its future.

Exclusive Weddings at Gainsborough Old Hall

Gainsborough Old Hall is now licenced for Civil Ceremonies and Partnerships and has four

beautiful and charming rooms to choose from.

The interior of the house certainly still reflects the opulence of its Tudor period, housing

a dramatic Great Hall and an original medieval kitchen boasting all the characterful features. With both an East and West range encompassing a myriad of rooms, there’s sure to be a setting to appeal to all tastes.

With space for 30 – 200 guests, this stunning venue is perfect for couples searching

for something with charming character and a fascinating history. From simple, intimate occasions to larger ceremonies, we can tailor the layout of each room to your wishes, helping to create the wedding you’ve always wanted.

Welcome to the wedding of Matthew and Rachel at The Carriage Hall.We are huge fans of the Carriage Hall here at Save the Date

Magazine, and we just HAD to share this incredibly gorgeous big day

at this stunning venue. Here the bride Rachel tells us all about it:

Page 65: Save the Date Magazine - Issue 22

Save The Date | Issue Twenty Two

65

Save The Date | Issue Twenty Two

We were married at Saint Mary’s church in Plumtree and our reception was at The

Carriage hall. We knew the Perkin’s restaurant who caters for the Carriage hall had a great reputation for food and this was a factor in our initial considerations. We had a vision of ‘ Jamie oliver’ style food and really liked the idea of tapas style sharing platters so when we tried the food at escabeche (Perkins sister restaurant) we just knew the catering would blow away our guests! The Carriage hall is a rustic yet classically beautiful venue, whilst still leaving a lot of scope to really put your own stamp on how you would like it to look. We loved the high ceilings, the bare brick walls and the large doors which we felt gave a sense of allowing the countryside to be a part of the occasion without having to worry about the rainy english weather potentially dampening the day!

We were very set on creating something very honest and homemade for our big day. We were

influenced a lot by pinterest and wedding blogs but we wanted our style to be unique and relaxed.

Page 66: Save the Date Magazine - Issue 22

66

Save The Date | Issue Twenty Two

My dress was designed by Kula Tsurdiu using nottingham

lace in beautiful champagne and blush tones.  From the moment I saw it I knew it was ‘the one’ and I absolutely fell in love with all of the dresses in her enchanting collection. For my bridesmaids, I chose Jenny Packham ‘fairy’ dresses with a rose design reflecting my own dress.

To save money and put our own stamp on things we tried to make

and provide as much as we could ourselves. We grew our own flowers to decorate the venue, we made our own hessian and lace table runners, we designed our own stationary using Matt’s computer and editing skills, my father made 6 foot M and R letters, Matts mother made the jam for the wedding favours and we used Matt’s photography equipment to

facilitate the Photobooth room.

We decided to opt for the more unusual cake of cheese for

our wedding cake; we sourced this from 6 acres nursery and we chose beautiful local cheeses which was a great hit with our guests. My bouquet and the groom and groomsmens button holes were made by the brilliant Michelle Gledhill. We chose Kellys heroes as our ceilidh band-this was so much fun and was enjoyed by all ages from the 4 year old to the 74 year old!

It is easy to lose sight of what is important when you get caught

up in the whirlwind of wedding planning, but what really matters is getting married to the person you love and sharing that moment with all the people that matter to you most.
