A unique combination of cleaning actions from the new DuoCleaner Excell system has significantly improved the performance of fabrics in the wet end of the paper machine. This paper shows a case study about a step change in press fabric performance; and how the system is used on both forming and press fabrics to achieve savings in cleaning chemicals, water usage and shut time, with improvements in runability and productivity. The new system uses a series of water jets at equal spacing that are significantly closer to each other than the nozzles of other cleaning equipment. The fast and fine concentrated, water jets directly contact more of the surface and structure of the fabric for a higher level of cleaning.

Combinations of cleaning system, modified fabric structures and safe, accurate measurement of fabric conditions gives a total approach to improving the performance of the forming and press sections.
