OPENING SESSIONDuring breakfast, Mayor Buddy Dyer will present his 2018 Community Builder and Neighborhood Champion Awards, created to honor volunteers and organizations that excel in their efforts to build better neighborhoods and strengthen communities.

Speaker: Bob Kodzis, Flight of IdeasBob Kodzis started a company called Flight of Ideas, Inc. His goal in life is to increase the amount of fun, creativity and sharing in the world.

Bob is a funny and inspired keynote speaker and a life coach. He is also a master meeting facilitator who has found ways to make meetings more fun, creative and productive.

In all of these capacities, Bob has great fun working with audiences, boards, executives and organizations all over the U.S. from the smallest nonprofits to Wal-Mart Corporation and NASA.

He is a passionate advocate for the arts and is an award-winning visual artist and a regular performer, teacher and emcee at Orlando’s SAK Comedy Lab. He is also a talented graphic facilitator who can draw people’s ideas as they emerge.

Bob is also a philanthropist who has donated his services to more than 200 worthy causes since opening Flight of Ideas in 1999. He has been recognized for these contributions and awarded the prestigious Jefferson Award for community service.

Wrapped around all of this, Bob tries to be a really great dad, husband, son, brother and overall human being.

For thirteen years, we have come together to learn, share and network at our annual Neighborhood & Community Summit. Each year, the Summit has offered a rewarding experience and this year will be no exception.

We’ll have unique workshops designed to help us continue to build strong communities and organizations, plus the opportunity to gather resources from more than 50 exhibitors. To keep the event fresh and insightful, we’ve added some new elements.

Our keynote speaker, Bob Kodzis, will reignite your passion for serving. Mr. Kodzis, the President and Chief Creative Catalyst, (what a great title!), will lead us on a journey of fun and creativity. This is a must-attend session that will help you think outside the box.

You’ll meet our city’s first poet laureate, Susan Lilley, recognize our 2018 Neighborhood Champion and Community Builder Award recipients and enjoy a wonderful breakfast and lunch at the beautiful Loews Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Orlando.

The Summit was created especially for you and will leave you inspired and motivated to continue to make a difference as one of Orlando’s neighborhood, arts and cultural, civic, community or faith-based leaders.

I look forward to seeing you on Saturday, February 10.

Sincerely,

Buddy Dyer Mayor, City of Orlando

Workshops

Ask your Mayor (E) Participate in a conversation with Mayor Buddy Dyer on topics that impact our city, our economy, community and neighborhoods. Learn about some of the exciting projects happening this year and how you can stay informed, connected and involved with your city.

An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure – Know your Numbers (H) A big part of what primary care physicians (PCP) do is preventive care – including regular health screenings for things like high cholesterol, hypertension, diabetes and so much more. Having regular checkups with your PCP can help you avoid preventable illnesses, and help ensure that a potentially serious health issue is caught early, when treatment can be most effective.

Telling your Organization’s Story (V) Human beings are natural storytellers. Stories are one of the most powerful tools we have to focus people’s attention on who we are, what our organization’s mission is and what our organization has accomplished. Telling your own stories is a key technique in communicating your organization’s message to the public, potential donors and key decision makers. Learn how to tell your organizations’ story in a way that makes a real and lasting difference in how your organization is perceived and appreciated...and in how people respond.

Show Me the Money! (D) Are you a representative of a nonprofit organization or new to fundraising? Do you want to learn how the funding research process works and what tools and resources are available? Participants will learn how to search for and identify foundation and corporate giving programs that match the mission and funding needs of your organization.

Legal Issues Relating to Mandatory Homeowners’ Associations As a mandatory homeowners’ association (HOA) board member, it is important for you to understand your role as outlined in Florida law. This workshop will give you insight and understanding of how Florida law applies to you and your association. Take this opportunity to ask an experienced HOA attorney your general legal questions.

Effective Communication for Success (E) Effective communication is key to the success of your organization. Strong communication links people together and improves their neighborhoods and our community. Learn skills to communicate your message clearly and effectively to your audience.

Engaging Diversity & Creating Inclusivity (V) Orlando’s cultural diversity increases the social, economic and cultural value of our neighborhoods and our city. Learn how to create an inclusive space in your neighborhood by engaging neighbors and cultural organizations to develop and strengthen relationships. Learn best practices and tested strategies for serving, communicating and engaging residents from various cultural backgrounds.

Creating Dynamic Neighborhoods (D) Your organization works hard to maintain and enhance the quality of life in city neighborhoods. Learn what the city’s vision, policies and practices are to keep our neighborhoods livable and sustainable, and how it relates to proposed developments. Participants should leave with an understanding of the city’s philosophy for blending urban development with existing neighborhoods, and our dynamic strategies for a prosperous Orlando.

Staying Heart Healthy (H) February is National Heart Healthy Month. How do you know if you are predisposed to heart conditions? Do you know potential warning signs to look for? What are some preventative tips to keep your heart healthy? Learn ways to stay heart healthy and manage stress in your life.

Legal Issues Relating to the Operation of Condominiums Do you understand how Florida Statutes affect your condominium association?
