Flashes from afar of different activities/events on campus: ­ the crowd of students on South Quad at 9:15 ­ a sports practice ­ students playing on the Quad ­ a large lecture ­ focus on person on bike trying to get through  Upbeat music? 

3. Back to the spokesperson.. 

    

“Notre Dame is a beautiful campus exploding with vibrant student life, or is it?”  after “or is it?” maybe like a “dun dun dun” kind of 

music✓

Repeats of the same kinds of flashes, but zoom in closer to reveal students on their cell phones.  ­ the students in the crowd are on their cell phones ­ students stop game on quad to call someone ­ students in lecture are all on their phones ­ person on bike pulls out their phone   *spokesperson in background*  “Most students are so caught up in their phones that they forget about the world around them. Our students are here, but are they really here?” 

5. Back to the spokesperson.. 

 

*serious music* In the studio  “Many young adults these days have fell victim to ‘cell phone sickness.’ … Students’ addiction to their cell phones have eliminated their attention to the outside world as they are now immersed in their online lives … As students now live within their cell phones, they have created a hazardous environment in which they are not only dangers to themselves, but to those around them.” 

 

FRAME  ACTION/DIALOGUE 

6. Spokesperson describing the biking and texting problem ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­>>>>>>>> 

­ VIVIDLY in the background is the biking scene 

 

“For Instance, look at this student. He’s just on his way to class like everyone else, but he’s biking and texting among this crowd of students.”  *camera zooms in on phone to show the biker responding to a text saying  “yea….I’ll be at Feve tonight!”* *Biker (not paying attention) runs into another student, causing the biker to fall and the other student to get hurt*  Show ambulance clip.. show a girl videoing the accident “wow I should post this to Instagram”  fade back to speaker.. “this tragic accident could have been avoided if that biker would have put down his cell phone and paid attention to his surroundings.”

7. Back to the Spokesperson ­ VIVIDLY in the background is the student in 

class texting scene 

 

“Academics aren’t that important at the University of Notre Dame. I think texting your “bae” is more so..”  *shows student in class texting “bae” during a pre­exam lecture*  *in the background the professor tells the class that the exam is only over chapters 1 through 3*  “Oh no, Bae is the most important! See! If she didn't respond to “bae” she wouldn't have known that they were having dinner at SDH.”  *camera shows student at the dorm studying chapters 4­6* *student goes to class (hypothetically days later) to pick up her test* * test says “F­ See me during office hours!” “Of course responding to “bae” wasn't the reason she failed the exam, maybe she should have texted bae back and said “No let’s go to NDH instead” 

8.  Friends on quad playing soccer 

 

 

9. Lacrosse Practice Bring in celebrity spokesperson (Brendan) 

­ in full lacrosse gear 

“I’m Brendan Gleason. Notre Dame athletes are some of the best, most focused athletes in world, and even they aren’t immune the cell phone sickness. I can see it among my teammates, some of them are so disconnected from the team because they are constantly immersed in their phones. 99 out of 100 teams don’t win the national championship, and you know why? they don’t have good team chemistry due to the prevalence of cell phone sickness.”

10. Statistic scene Narrator.. 

 

“97.3% of all college students have fallen victim to hazards of all sorts caused by continuous cell phone use.”

11. Person lying in bunk 

  

*scrolling through twitter late at night, drops phone on face*  Narrator in background: “These hazards can strike at any time and can happen to anyone.”

person walking down stairs, hears a text tone, pulls out their phone to check, trips and tumbles down flight of stairs 

13. person walking to class         

person walking to class, hears text tone, pulls out cell phone to check, walks head first into tree  Narrator in background: “If you notice these symptoms happening to you or your loved ones, it might be time to seek help from a professional for your cell phone sickness” 

Counterargument:  *Narrator in studio*  “However, some say that cell phone sickness is not a real thing. These people believe that cell phones do not cause hazards and that cell phones do not affect how they interact with the real world” 

14. Counterargument:    “I don’t care about the hazards, I can’t live without my cell phone”          

RIGHT AFTER PERSON RUNS INTO THE TREE  Person A: Ouch! I hope my phone is okay..  Person B: Why don’t you try putting your phone away for a little while? Things like this wouldn’t happen and you could experience the wonderful things in reality.  Person A: No way! My cell phone didn’t cause this, I just forgot where I was going.. *gets back on cell phone and walks away*  Person B: *heavy sigh*

15. Wifi gets turned off         

*Person B walks over to switch VERY OBVIOUSLY labeled “WIFI”*  Person B: “I’ll prove to them that there is life outside of cell phones”  *flips switch* 

16. students realize wifi is no longer working              

*students realize that their phones are no longer working and look at each other and begin to freak out* Person: “OMG what are we going to do now?” Person 2: “IDK what can you do other than twitter and instagram and texting” Person 3: “maybe we can go see if other people are having the same problem”  they all walk outside and say really exaggerated things about nature like “OMG the leaves change color” and then they start to talk to each other.. proving the human interaction is possible without cell phones 

17. Back to narrator                  

*very serious* “Please, warn your loved ones about cell phone sickness. It is a serious ailment that can affect anyone at any time. Getting stuck in the virtual world of cell phones can cause many hazards, so your their safety and your own, show them that life can and does go on without cell phones. Encourage them to start small by putting their phone down for even an hour per day. Together, we can beat cell phone sickness and enjoy the life around us.
