      Video Satire Script

[Show ND’s campus: all the beautiful trees, the wind blowing through the leaves by the dome]

Spokesperson: [can’t see the person yet] The University of Notre Dame is a beautiful place.

Complete with budding flowers, pristine buildings, and our very own Touchdown Jesus, here we

foster the growth of mind, body, and spirit. Our students come onto campus with completely

open minds ready to learn and accept all kinds of diversity. But, in recent times, there is a

growing danger on campus that threatens ND’s very existence. (Main building)

[Still show the scenery but have ominous music in the background]

Spokesperson: [show the person standing inside a lush part of the Main Building] There is an

increasing number of lower class students on ND’s campus. We call them LNDs. This is a

grave danger for all of the upper-class ND students who spend so much money to attend this

university. Lower-class students are lazy and scoff at tradition; they endanger the profound

honor and pride we possess here at Notre Dame. (Main building)

[Cut to a scene of a student not as well dressed in a crowd of students in suits in the dining hall.

The lower class student pockets a piece of fruit and stealthily makes his/her way out of the

    dining hall.]

Spokesperson: [only hear the voice] LNDs are the ones who steal food from the precious

reserves in our dining halls. They are the ones who steal bikes and throw them into trees,

making ND a littered, unsafe place. (Main building)

[Show another lower class student putting a bike in a tree. Another student in a suit runs toward

the lower class student to confront him/her, but the lower class student hops on the bike and

    dashes away.]

Spokesperson: [show the person in front of a green screen of the ND football stadium] We all

know about Notre Dame’s great tradition of wearing the Shirt to home football games. But what

happens when LNDs decide they, for some reason, cannot buy this grossly expensive item and

instead wear a normal t-shirt? (Stadium)

[Show an image of ND students wearing the Shirt gaping at a student not wearing the Shirt]

(Collect pictures of students not wearing ND shirt in a crowd at the stadium)

Spokesperson continues: This crime puts that tradition in danger. Think about it. What happens

to Notre Dame’s image when not all of its students dress only with overly priced ND attire?

    (Stadium)

[Cut to a scene of two students in Hammes Bookstore. One is literally dressed in all Notre Dame

clothes, one isn’t. They’re standing by a clothing item.]

Lower class student: Sorry, I can’t afford that.

    Upper class student: What? It’s only $240 for a simple long-sleeved shirt. Don’t be ridiculous;

    everybody can afford that.

Lower class student shakes their head, and upper class student stumbles backward in “shock”.

Upper class student: You’re anti-ND if you don’t wear stuff like this! And anti-American!

    (Bookstore)

Spokesperson: One of the principal dangers that these lower class students pose to our university

is the amount of money they take up. Every year, these students leak money out of our account

in request of financial aid. (Main building)

[Cut back to spokesperson talking, potentially in another part of Main Building]

Spokesperson: The amount of money that contributes to lower class applicants’ financial aid is

embarrassing. [Show a pie chart on the screen that the person can point to] The latest statistics

tell us that 95% of Notre Dame students don’t need financial aid, and the remaining 5% request

it. This is too much. The American spirit is all about working to “earn” what you own, so why

shouldn’t students who request financial aid be given all loans and work-study? [Spokesperson

    smiles]

[Cut to a student wearing a suit standing on South Quad. His eyes are blacked out for

“protection” and the caption is “A representative of Notre Dame”.]

Student: I’m really worried about the future of ND. These lower-class students are just

completely messing up campus. It’s obvious they aren’t as smart as the rest of us and they don’t

try as hard. I mean, it’s just a fact that people from less wealthy families don’t have as much to

contribute to ND’s culture. It’s seriously an outrage they’re even allowed on campus.

[Cut to a pan of ND’s campus in the spring. Show budding trees, and play birds chirping.]

Spokesperson: [hear the voice] Imagine what campus would be like without these dangerous

    LNDs.

[Show a picture of lots of ND students mostly in suits, and the ones who are wearing normal

clothes and are clearly lower class are disappearing from the picture]

Spokesperson: [hear the voice again] All of Notre Dame’s problems would vanish if these

students could somehow be gotten rid of.

[Cut back to spokesperson maybe in front of the Dome]

Spokesperson: The solution to the threat of lower class students on campus is simple: eradicate

all students who are lower middle class and below. There are numerous ways in which we will

    accomplish this heroic task.

First, we should revise the application to include questions about socioeconomic status.

[Show an admissions counselor shaking her head and crossing out the name of a lower class

    student on a list.]

Next, if lower-class prospective students visit campus, they will be escorted around by security

to make sure they don’t make trouble.

[Show a security officer trailing a lower-class student but smiling and waving to students in

    suits.]

Another very efficient way to know who on campus is lower class is to create a badge system.

Having a bright sticker on every lower class student’s ID will let us know who is a threat to our

culture. Because you must remember, lower class students, you are a burden to the prestigious

    University of Notre Dame.

[Show a student with that sticker on the ID handing the card to a cashier at the Huddle and the

cashier shakes her head and hands it back to the student]

Spokesperson: [show the person again in Main Building] Lower class students pose a serious

danger to our university. Support this well-founded cause and help us rid of the dangerous lower

class students plotting on campus. Together, we can solve this problem. When we enact these

measures, Notre Dame will be great again!

[Scene fades with spokesperson smiling. There’s peaceful, “majestic” classical music playing in

the background, and the camera pans around the lush places of campus and students in suits

congregating and talking and laughing and studying before the scene completely goes black.]
