He counts the eminent philosophical theologian Paul Tillich, the scholar of religion Mircea Eliade, the historian Zenos Hawkinson, the polical philosopher Hannah Arendt, and Jaroslav Pelikan, Sterling Professor of History, Yale University, among the scholars who have most influenced his work. David has been involved in various research and documentaon and communicaons projects both in Canada and abroad. He built the program for the study of culture through his field research work over thirty years at the Royal Alberta Museum. He lectures widely and is the author of numerous books and scholarly arcles and is a regular contributor to the media. His work focuses on religious tradion and modern culture, culture and the civil life, and on public instuons in service to cultural communies and modern civil society. SAVE THE DATE: September 26, 2016 Luther Lecture 2016 featuring Rev. Dr. Mitri Raheb Rev. Dr. Mitri Raheb, a Palestinian Pastor and co-recipient of the 2015 Olof Palme Prize, will be the 2016 Luther Lecturer. As a Pastor in the Lutheran church, Raheb sends a clear message to the young generation of Palestinians: “We want you to live, not die, for Palestine.” He is also the founder of the Dar al-Kalima University of College of Arts and Culture in Bethlehem, Palestine. Zion Lutheran Church, Saskatoon is planning to host a celebration concert/worship service to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. Plans are in the initial stages. We anticipate and hope that many congregations in our city and the northern half of our Synod will participate. But for now… mark the date and keep your eyes and ears open for future developments.

It will be a wonderful celebration of our heritage. We hope you can join us!

Nominations to National Convention

Nominations to be a delegate to the 2017 National Convention are still being accepted until September 30, 2016. Please fill out the form at our website (link on right) and mail to:

Messiah Lutheran Church, Prince Albert is hiring a Part-Time Coordinator for its Children’s Ministry (Sunday School) and Youth programs. We are looking for candidates that are well-organized, good communicators, sure of themselves and their faith, and enthusiastic about encouraging youth and children to be a part of the Messiah family. This person will coordinate and oversee the Sunday school and youth programs offered at Messiah.

This is an 18-hour per week position that involves flexible work time in order to meet the needs of the church’s youth and the Sunday school programs. The term is for 10 or 11 months per year. The position will start in mid-August and runs to mid June.
