3. When will SAP HANA tailored data center integration be available?

In the framework of SAP HANA tailored data center integration, we plan to open more and more component

layers for SAP HANA.

The storage layer is the first layer to be opened up. SAP HANA tailored data center integration for enter-prise storage has already served more than 50 customers during a pilot program and is planned to be gen-erally available in Q4 2013.

The second layer component is the network. The SAP HANA tailored data center integration for enter-prise network pilot program will start in Q4 2013.

4. What are the prerequisites for SAP HANA tailored data center integration?

Besides being aware of the benefits of SAP HANA tailored data center integration, also keep in mind that theapproach requires several tasks and prerequisites.

5. SAP HANA Tailored Data Center Integration for Enterprise Storage Requirements

The SAP HANA server follows the exact same bill of material as the certified SAP HANA appliance butwithout storage. The availability depends on the support of the SAP HANA hardware partners. Only serverslisted in the Product Availability Matrix for SAP HANA are supported. For more information, see SAP HANAEnterprise 1.0 SAP HANA Platform 1.0 Product Availability Matrix. Note the following information:

• No local disks and no flash cards are required

• Additional Fibre Channel adapters for a boot from a storage area network are allowed

All storage devices must have successfully passed the hardware certification for SAP HANA. For moreinformation, see Partner Information Center or contact [email protected].

The SAP HANA installation needs to be done by the customer. Therefore the exam “SAP Certified Tech-nology Specialist (Edition 2013) – SAP HANA Installation” (E_HANAINS131) needs to be successfullypassed for a person to perform SAP HANA software installations. 6. How can I participate in the pilot customer program for enterprise network?

We plan to start a pilot customer program for SAP HANA tailored data center integration - EnterpriseNetwork for a limited number of customers in December 2013.

TECHNICAL QUESTIONS

7. What is SAP’s required concept of storage connection?

The Enterprise Storage system can connect to the SAP HANA server either as NAS using shared

file systems (like NFS) or using a SAN (for example, by Fibre Channel).

Please note that in shared file systems you might face issues with file-locking situations in failoverscenarios.

To enable host auto-failover for scale-out systems, SAP HANA comes with a Storage Connector

implementation for Fibre Channel. Should you prefer connecting your storage over a shared file

system like NFS, you would have to ask your storage vendor to provide its own implementation of

the Storage Connector API for host auto-failover. For details about this, see our Storage Connector

SAP offers a hardware certification for SAP HANA for storage vendors. For more information, see

Partner Information Center or contact [email protected]. Furthermore, SAP recommends keeping

the number of switches between the SAP HANA server and the storage system to a minimum and

ensuring a 10 Gbit bandwidth connection between them. For highly available SAP HANA systems,the entire infrastructure must be made redundant.

8. What happens if, in addition to the SAP HANA system, other applications or systemsaccess the same Enterprise Storage system concurrently?

A supportability tool called the SAP HANA hardware configuration check tool is provided by SAP,

which allows you to check if the hardware is optimally configured to meet the requirements of SAP

HANA. For more information see the SAP HANA Administration Guide. Whenever a customer de-

cides to change their SAP HANA Infrastructure (for example, by connecting additional systems to

the same Enterprise Storage system), the data throughput measures will have to be repeated. SAP

will not provide support if the storage system no longer fulfills the required KPIs for the connected

SAP HANA system(s).

9. How much storage space does HANA require for the data area if Enterprise Storageis used?

If the SAP HANA system uses Enterprise Storage, a storage space of 2*RAM for the data area canbe used (although 4*RAM is recommended). This is possible because the disk space required fordata can be extended easily if Enterprise Storage is used.
