Chaplain’s Message
Fellow Knights,
On Sunday May 27, 2012 –
Pentecost Sunday – I told
the parishioners of Blessed
Sacrament at the 10:00 AM
mass that I was retiring. I
have been Parish Priest at
Blessed Sacrament for 18
wonderful years – I came to
Blessed Sacrament on Au-
gust 1, 1994.
I must say that the Filipino Community in gen-
eral, and the members of the Santo Nino Coun-
cil of the Knights of Columbus in particular
have made a huge spiritual impact on our par-
ish. The Filipino Community are spiritually
very devout and have a great love for the
church. Blessed Sacrament has benefitted from
that love.
Dr. Eusebio Koh was an excellent choice to be
your Charter Grand Knight. Under his leader-
ship our council quickly became one of the
elite councils in Saskatchewan, winning many
Star Council Awards. Dr. Koh has trained a
number of Filipino-Canadian altar servers who
serve at the Sunday 10:00 AM mass on the 2nd
and 4th Sunday of the month. The young men
serve so devoutly.
The members of the Santo Nino Council have
enriched our parish in so many ways. At
Christmas our members have for several years
now erected and taken down the outdoor
Christmas Crib. I always feel that the crib is a
silent sermon to pedestrians on Scarth Street
about the true meaning of Christmas.
Another tremendous contribution to our parish
has come on Holy Thursday when twelve
members of our council have had their feet
washed at the mass of the Last Supper.
And needless to say the contribution that our
council members have made to the Canada Day
Mass and Brunch has not gone unnoticed. You
have shown your love for your adopted coun-
try!
Dr. Mody Escanlar and Terry Abadiano have
done an outstanding job as church/Vocation
Directors. You have made my job easy.
Fr. Emmett Morrissey

His Homily
Not just a jumble of words cast about,
More like the casting of iron,
The annealing of steel,
The sharing of insights and wisdom
Like the layering of an opalescent pearl
Cradled in the nacre of an oyster,
Given with love and the tenderness
Of a mother

She could not tell from my looks
What kind of people I am.
My squinty eyes, my black hair,
My dark complexion, my small
Stature all betrayed my roots –
Chinese, Filipino, what?
So she slowly said to me,
“Do – you – un – der – stand – Eng - lish?”
And I said, “Co – ca Co - la.”

Message from our Grand Knight
Brother Knights, It’s been a triumphant experience
on those numerous activities we had for
the past three months.
In the State Convention, our council
was assigned to handle the eucharistic &
liturgical services and our members have
shown again, our dedication and commit-
ment in managing the tasks.
“CONTRATULATIONS BROTHERS!”
Worth mentioning is the Ladies Program, with the theme
“WELCOME TO THE PHILIPPINES”. Our ladiess again
have given their undying support for us, brothers. “Cheers
to our Ladies!!!”
Congratulations to our new members Bros. Bong
and Heintje. And to Bro. Anthony Repotente for gaining
the third degree.
We’re sadden that our Chaplain Fr. Morrissey will
be retiring as parish pastor at Blessed Sacrament Church.
He’s always been there for us, a great advisor and inspira-
tion not only to our council but also to our families. We
respect his decision and continue praying for his health,
Thank you for giving me another term as your
Grand Knight and we’ll keep on motivating ourselves in
doing good. . Gregg Ravasco

Message from our District Deputy
My Brother Knights,
It is with mixed emotions that I
complete this final submission to your
newsletter as your District Deputy. It has
been an honour to work with you and share
some of your many accomplishments these
past two years. My wife Patty and I have
made many dear friends along the way and
have many memories to cherish.
Thank you all for allowing me to share a small
portion of what you enjoy everyday as a faith commu-
nity, built on formidable family and community values.
Enjoy your summer and the Blessings that the good Lord
has provided us and may our paths continue to cross for
years to come. Thank you my friends and God Bless you
all.

Charter Chaplain Retires
Our Charter Chaplain Father Emmett P. Morris-
sey announced on Sunday, May 27 that he is retiring as
parish pastor on July 31, 2012. This sudden sad news
caught Council by surprise even as we understand his
reason for doing so, namely, his poor health. Council’s
gut reaction was to ask him if he could stay on as
Council Chaplain. Without the heavy work load in the
parish, the minimal demands on his time and energy
might just be right for his health. But his advice and
presence will be a tremendous boost to Council.
The vibrancy of our council owes a great deal
to Father Emmett for he, more than a glue that binds us
together, inspires us to achieve goals we set. Father
Emmett is among the best priests in town; his homilies
are absorbing, intelligent with bits of history and geog-
raphy and soul-inspiring. He is our father-confessor,
advisor and a beloved family friend. He is rarely ab-
sent from Council meetings and functions.
It will be a great loss not to have Father around.
Perhaps, he will consider it seriously and remain as our
Chaplain.
Vivat Jesu!

Editorial: Membership Woes
A big problem of our council is the retention of
inactive and non-paying members. Whether a member
has paid his membership dues or not, council has to pay
per capita dues to chapter, state council and supreme
council so long as the members remain in the rolls. The
total amount of these dues is almost what we collect as
membership dues. It is imperative that to stay solvent,
council has to drop members from the rolls if they are in
arrears for a year or more.
We definitely want members to remain with us by
paying their dues. Unfortunately there are instances
where their budgets may not allow them to do so. There
are also members whose circumstances or livelihood do
not give them time and energy to be active in council
functions. Consequently, they have pushed us to the back-
ground. We do understand this and we encourage mem-
bers to participate in whatever activity that suits them and
their time table. Our council has scheduled numerous ac-
tivities throughout the year in the area of church, family,
community, council and youth.
