The future has arrivedYes, its clearly a Santa Fe like the one you have grown to love

over the years. Todays look and the personality, though, havemoved the model into a new era. The characteristic curving

waistline and side cladding, the dual exhausts, the horizontal rear

light clusters and the body-coloured bumpers suggest refinement

and luxury. Thats entirely appropriate, because Santa Fes

emphasis is on more car-like comfort and driveability.

Smooth and easy

The suspension was re-thought to produce a more controlled and comfortable

ride, the effect of which is immediately apparent on the road. A multi-link

layout at the rear replaces the double wishbone system of the previousmodel. The result is a decrease in noise, vibration and harshness and

improved stability. At the front, t he layout of the well-proven MacPherson

strut-type suspension was re-engineered for greater comfort and stability.

Getting a grip

Full ti me four-wheel-drive automatically distributes engine torque between the f ront and rear wheels.

When conditions are more slippery, drive to the front and rear can be locked 50/50 at the press of a

button.

Steering stabili ty for safetyThe electronic stabil ity programme, or ESP, automatically

compensates for any steering mistakes by the driver. It does so by

instantly applying individual brakes as required after monitoring front

and rear wheel speeds, deceleration, yaw moment, the angle of the

steering wheel and accelerator position.

Brake-fast

The utterly dependable stopping performance, whatever the weather

conditions, is attributable to disc brakes on all four wheels. Those at

the front are venti lated (right) for better cooling under harshtreatment. The brakes have an electronic anti-locking system to

ensure the vehicle stops in a straight line.

pressure triple nozzle washer sprays below the bonnet

line.

Front stylingThe frontal treatment epitomises the character of the car, which combines an assertive look with a graceful air. The twin

character lines on the bonnet sweep down to the large grille, w hich features Hyundais familiar t win horizontal bars and itsreassuring logo. The body-coloured bumpers are complemented by wide headlight clusters, separate low-mounted fog lights

and a skid plate that reaches up to the grille.
