Dear Parishioners,
Easter is New Life! Easter is new life in Christ! Easter
is change. Easter is change from darkness to light,
sadness to joy, and from death to life! Why mention
Easter on Palm Sunday? Am I getting ahead of
myself? In a way, yes. For good reason.
Here in our parish we will experience the new life of
Christ in a new way beginning Easter weekend. We
will be offering communion under both species, both
the body and blood of Jesus, at every mass we
celebrate.
One of the most memorable lines from the Second
Vatican council was the call for each of us to “fully,
actively, and consciously participate” in the mass. As
a church, we are not “fully” participating in Eucharist
if just the priest and deacon receive from the chalice. I
am not any more privileged than you in the pew to
receive the blood of Christ. Two out of a couple
thousand people a weekend is not “full” participation
in the fullness of what God offers to us.
For the first thirteen hundred years of the church
every Christian received both the body and blood of
Christ. So, this new opportunity to receive the blood
of Christ is actually a return to the original roots of
the early Church and how the Eucharist originally was
celebrated and received.
The only hesitation I have heard from people in the
pews throughout the years has been the fear of germs
in receiving from the chalice. Keep in mind these
three simple things to help alleviate any hesitation in
receiving the blood of Christ. Even though it is the
blood of Christ it has alcoholic content in it which in
itself lessens the germ content. Secondly, after every
person receives it is purified with a cloth. Thirdly, the
chalice is turned so that the next person in line
receives from a different part of the cup. Let us be
patient with one another as we embrace this new way
of receiving Christ.
Therefore, I would cordially invite every parishioner
to participate in the “full” expression of Christ’s
sacrifice for us by receiving from the chalice at Mass.
In this way, it will be the beginning of something new
for us as a parish family this Easter, as we seek to
welcome the Risen Christ more fully into our lives!
-Fr. Matt
Palm Sunday is a commemoration for the wishy-washy
among us. Actually, it’s a celebration and awakening
for everyone, but perhaps the more fickle among us
will get it and understand first. We lead with pomp and
circumstance, waving palms as those in Jerusalem did
to welcome Jesus. We call him Lord and King and
bow down as he parades past on a colt (or donkey) and
Jesus takes it all in, knowing that the very same
worshippers will call for his crucifixion a few short
days later. How human of us to betray the one we
proclaim to love above all.
It’s humbling to be reminded of our human nature to
say one thing only to do another. Just like those first
followers of Christ, we cheer Him with gusto as the
week begins and then chant “CRUCIFY HIM!” when
the tide turns later in the week. This is why we read the
Passion on Palm Sunday as well as on Good Friday.
Even as Jesus listened to the crowds cheering
“Hosanna,” He knew what was to pass and that public
opinion would soon shift radically.
“That’s the thing, really, about cheering and jeering.
You can’t take it in. You can’t let it distract you. It all
changes so fast. None of it changes who you are or
what you’ve been sent here to do, not one bit. You just
gotta stay on that donkey and get your work done.
Are they jeering at you? This too shall pass. Are they
cheering for you? This too shall pass. You just get your
work done.” (Glennon Doyle Melton)
We are all cheering, jeering, and having others do the
same to us. This too shall pass. We have the Gospel to
follow. We have work to do

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
It is hard to believe that it is Palm
Sunday already. Next Sunday we
will celebrate Easter and I wish all
of you a very Blessed day with
family and friends. There are no
Religious education classes next
week for Sunday or Monday night. Enjoy the time
together with family. Classes will resume on
April 8th for Sunday classes and April 9th for
Monday night classes.
In the next coming weeks we will
have information about next year’s
classes and we will start registration as
well.
If you did not receive your banner last week please
see Mrs. Czepyha for the kit. The banners are
used to hold a pew for your family the day of the
Communion so it is important to have them done
and past in by the first Rehearsal for the
Communion on May 1st.
Confirmation students enjoyed their
Retreat this Friday. Thank you to the
Net Ministry who came and did a
wonderful job. The Confirmation
students will be practicing as a class on April 9th
for their ceremony. There will be a rehearsal with
sponsors on Wednesday April 11th at 6:30. If your
sponsor can not make rehearsal please have
someone step in for them. Any questions please
contact Mrs. Czepyha.
Vacation Bible school will be taking
place from June 25-29th Vacation Bible
school runs from 9am to 12:15pm. We
will be looking for volunteers to help
run this fun filled event. Children age
3-10 can participate in VBS. Children age 11-18
can volunteer as group peers. More information to
come.
From the Desk of Mrs. Izzi
As both springtime and the resurrection of our
savior, Jesus Christ, bring renewed life to the
world, we at St. Rose School have been blessed
with the opportunity to witness the incubation
of eggs right here in our early childhood
classroom! In just a few weeks the eggs will
hatch and baby chicks will emerge. Our early
childhood students will have a field trip to
Casey Farm to return the chicks to their natural
habitat! What an exciting way for students and
teachers to end trimester two and begin our
final marking period of the academic year!
Drama students are also beginning to rehearse
for our spring play, which is scheduled to take
place in May.
Our grade 8 pupils along with the Chorus
performed Living Stations this past Friday
evening. It was a wonderful event that took a
lot of time to prepare for. I want to take this
opportunity to thank students for their
cooperation, as well as Ms. Viera, Mrs. Gagnon
and Mrs. Czepyha for rehearsing with students.
As a Catholic school it is a wonderful
experience to incorporate into our curriculum
during this season of Lent.
