High School co-ed volleyball, anyone??

Our CYO program would like to solicit families to see what level of interest there is for a Coed High School volleyball, grades 9 through12 (as of March 2016). The program and games would be geared toward providing a fun and enjoyable experience, more of relaxed competition and would run through April & May. We need to hear back from you by emailing Ross Fasco & Rochelle Rothstein, let them know the number of children, age & gender. Communicate to Rochelle & Ross, if interested. Then we will decide to move forward or not. [email protected], [email protected]

11 Cents: God’s Native Tongue

A Catholic spiritual writer says, “Silence is God's first language.” Isn’t that fun to think that God speaks through the silence? We must seek out that silence as an act of listening. Silence however, is hard to come by these days, and if we want to ex-perience it, we usually have to intentionally seek it out. If we do sit in silence, (while being aware of God’s presence), we might not feel or sense anything and that might cause us to abandon the practice. The danger of that, is that God does not always make us aware of the work that He is doing within us in that silence. If we knew all of the transformation being done in that silence, we would be distracted by it, and might even become self-congratulatory, and less motivated, thinking of how far we have already come. We might not notice the work God is doing in si-lence because sometimes, God acts from the Spirit directly into our spirit. This might not be sensed or noticed, but we can make space to allow it to hap-pen by entering into more silence (10 to 20 minutes a day at least). Over time we will find that God has been changing us from the inside out. This was made clear to me when one day I was walking by a river. When I looked upstream the wa-ter was still and completely flat. As I looked down beneath where I stood, there were rapids roaring loudly over rocks. The message seemed to be that in prayer, even when the soul seems placid and calm, like the water upstream, God is actually amazingly active, like the rushing waters below. In that moment I felt encouraged to believe in the work of God that happens in the silence of prayer. As people with such busy lives let us honor and treat God by taking time to say, “I’m going to just be with You for awhile.” Like a child resting in a Fa-ther’s arms, let yourself be held by the Father in prayerful silence.

Catholic Charities

Saints Peter and Paul Parish has been recognized by Catholic Charities for surpassing their 2015 Catholic Charities Appeal parish goal. The Most Reverend Charles Chaput, Archbishiop of Philadelphia, in his letter to our Pastor stated, “Your support of last year’s Catholic Charities Ap-peal brought the theme of Giving Hope to life. Be-cause of you and your parishioners, the Appeal was able to, once again, surpass its $10,000,000 goal. You clearly saw the challenges so many of our brothers and sisters face in their daily lives, and once again, you committed yourself to better-ing their reality – you gave them hope.” Thank you for your generous support!

Appalachia Service Trip

As part of our Outreach opportunities at Saints Pe-ter and Paul, we have been investigating a trip to build and renovate homes in some of the poorest parts of our country, near the Appalachian Moun-tains. Construction experience is very helpful but not required. Because this is a new endeavor, we are not sure if we are prepared to take a trip this summer or if we will have to wait until next summer. To find out if there is enough interest, we are hav-ing an information meeting on: February 24 from 7:00PM to 8:30PM, in the Parish Center. If we were to take a trip this summer, it would be July 23 to July 30, 2016, and the cost would be $375 per per-son. If you’re interested in going or learning about future trips please contact Daniel Hoover at [email protected] or extension 263 ASAP.
