October Month of the Rosary

The Retired and Infirm Priest Collection Weekend of October 10th

This local collection of the Archdiocese of Denver benefits our retired senior clergy, many of whom continue to serve in our parishes. LifeLines by Sr. Joseph-Mary M., F.T.I. This month we continue to look into some possible deeper meanings of Jesus' statement, "I am the Way and the Truth and the Life" (Jn 14:6). Now we focus on the life aspect, which can be both physical and spiritual, with this article being on aspects of the physical life. When Jesus said, "I came that they might have life and have it abundantly" (Jn 10:10), it can be taken these two ways. And now, at this time, in this place, as Americans, as citizens, and as Catholics we have a grave decision before us this election. We must vote in a way that pleases God! We are fortunate to have a holy Archbishop to guide us and here are some of his statements: "We have seen the progressive darkening grow with physician assisted suicide, the redefinition of marriage, and the arguing against abortion being a predominant issue in voting." Archbishop Aquila also said that "Only persons whose conscience is dead, who have no conscience, can participate in abortion." He went on recently to add that this is about Catholic teaching: the seriousness of abortion and never to take a dismissive attitude about so serious a matter. Catholic people in public life and every Catholic have the responsibility to be faithful to the Gospel of Life. In Colorado there will be a Proposition 115 on the ballot. This bans abortions after 22 weeks as the child is then able to live outside the womb. This will only affect the late term abortions but we must pass it and stop this heinous procedure. And beyond that, we have a political party that is all out for abortion and other intrinsic evils that no one who is a true and faithful Catholic can support. To do so is to participate in these grave sins and offenses against God and against life. Those who support that platform will one day answer to God and without repentance, their soul could be in mortal danger! May we all think very carefully as we fill out our ballots this election time and vote with a well formed Catholic conscience. Ave Maria!

Twenty–Eight Sunday in Ordinary Time 10/11/20

Archdiocese of Denver Further Guidance for Public Mass

• Occupancy: Taking into account local regulations, churches

and other areas being used for Mass should not exceed 50% of their fire code occupancy.

• Germ Mitigation: The faithful should refrain from

unnecessarily touching surfaces, respect physical distancing, use hand sanitizer when it is available, follow the directions for seating, and stay home if they are sick, symptomatic, or have recently been exposed to someone who has tested positive for the virus. Safeguarding the health and welfare of others, not just oneself, is a moral duty. Parishes should ensure proper cleaning and provide hand sanitizer.

• Suspended: Hand holding, physically exchanging a sign of

peace, use of holy water, and the distribution of the Precious Blood are all to remain suspended.

• Communion: Hand sanitizer should be used by the minister

before and after the distribution of Holy Communion. The host should be placed in the hand in a manner so as to avoid any skin-to skin touching. Should this occur, hand sanitizer should be used before resuming distribution. Communion on the tongue is permitted so long as the following occur:

o Those receiving on the hand and those receiving on

the tongue are not intermixed. o All those who wish to receive on the tongue wait

until everyone else has received communion. o Only one minister/line distributes on the tongue. o When the minister is aware that their finger has

touched the mouth or tongue of the communicant, they are to stop distribution and sanitize their hand before resuming.

• Masks: Out of compliance, caution, and charity for one

another, the faithful should continue to wear face masks while entering, moving about, going forward for communion, and exiting all indoor spaces.

• Hymnals & Missalettes: Because of the difficulty in

sanitizing hymnals & missalettes they are to be removed from the pews. Disposable/single use aids can be produced if needed.

• Singing & Choirs: It has been demonstrated that singing

can increase the spread of the virus, thus congregational singing should be minimalized. If a choir is used, it should be limited to four singers with increased physical distancing and mask use.

Stewardship is what I do after I say “I believe!”

The Christian Community, described in the Acts of the Apostles, understood and practiced stewardship. The believers did not claim anything as their own, but held everything in common, and distributed to each whatever was needed.
