Nationwide Novena for the Legal Protection of Human Life

The U.S. bishops urge our participation each Friday in a nationwide Novena for the Legal Protection of Human Life, August 3 -

September 28. Participants will receive weekly email or text reminders to pray and fast, along with little-known facts about Roe v

Wade to share with others. Sign up www.usccb.org/pray or visit the information in the narthex.

“Each Friday, from August 3 - September 28, 2018, I urge all people of good will to join me in prayer that this change in the U.S.

Supreme Court will move our nation closer to the day when every human being is protected in law and welcomed in life. The

USCCB Call to Prayer network will share prayers and educational resources and an invitation to fast on Fridays for this intention.

May Our Lady of Guadalupe intercede for the healing of our nation and our people from decades of abortion o demand.”

~Cardianal Timothy Michael Dolan, Archbishop of New York and Chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB)

From the Pastor

The Six Commandments We all know about the Ten Commandments, given by God on Mount Sinai to Moses. Who remembers the Commandments of the Church, which we learned as children? There are six of them, not ten, and they are not given di-rectly by God; they are ecclesiastical law. They are binding on all Catholics as universal precepts but not as divine pre-cepts. There are six commandments of the church, which we will consider over the next six weeks: 1. To assist at Mass on all Sundays and holydays of obligation 2. To fast and to abstain on the days appointed 3. To confess our sins at least once a year 4. To receive Holy Communion during Eastertide 5. To contribute to the support of the Church 6. To observe the laws of the Church concerning marriage Saint of the Week 31 July Saint Helen of Skovde

Helen was a noblewoman of Westgothland in Sweden. After her husband’s death, she lived in the tradition of the holy widows of old, spending her fortune on the needs of the poor, building a church at Skovde, and repairing a nearby monastery. When Helen’s son-in-law was brutally murdered, some in his family wrongly felt that Helen had been involved. To quell family tensions, Helen went on pilgrimage to Rome, or, as some sources say, to the Holy Land. But when at long last she returned home, her in-laws were still out for revenge. They murdered Helen at Gotene. Her body was brought back to Skovde, where it was buried in the church. From the very first, the local folk considered Helen a martyr. They prayed to her, and a number of miracles were reported. In 1164, the local bishop petitioned Rome, and Pope Adrian IV approved her canonization. Until the Protestant Reformation, veneration of Helen continued in Skovde and at Tisvilde in Denmark, where some of her relics had been taken. She is patroness of those harmed by malicious gossip.

Saint Helen of Skovde, pray for us!

The story of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Life is a miracle, God is a mystery, and nothing is coincidence. This movie, entitled, 1531, is a love story from Mexico to the world which was written in an Aztec sacred stone and in Saint John’s Apocalypse centuries before it happened. It presents the 1531 appearances of Our Lady of Guadalupe and how that story is not yet finished.

“Amazing information I never knew before.”
